Sip this one slowly and neat — at 70.2% it's a big pour that needs air. You get the classic 1998 Caroni signature: rubber, tar and petrol on the dirty side, then ripe mango and pineapple, oak, dark chocolate and a faint mint note in the finish. Several tasters call the high proof unusually well integrated. Powerful and layered, but it stays a bit sharp and demanding.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting - Extra Time 2024: Powerful nose, with the intensity typical of the 1998 vintage. Varnish, petrol, tar on the dirty side, plus wood, dark spices and fruity notes reminiscent of ripe tropical fruit. Very subtle minty notes on the finish. The alcohol is well integrated, but the release remains somewhat scratchy and demanding. A very good representative of the 1998 vintage.

#4932 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Medium intense, wood, faint roasted, light rubber, light tar, light cherry, faint mint, light citrus. Palate Balanced, round, wood, faint smoke, light dried fruit, faint mint, faint chocolate, light tar, light rubber, faint leather. Finish Long, balanced, smooth, wood, faint smoke, light tar, light rubber, faint mint, faint caramel. A very nice Caroni but the price tag is out of this world 😊

Impressive bottling delivering the full 1998 Caroni profile. Classically dirty with rubber, tar and earthy tones, but well balanced with fruit, wood and spice. A top representative of the vintage. Powerful, complex and long-lasting.

A very good representative of Caroni 98. The nose offers a lovely quartet of caramel candy, terpenic notes (petrol, tar, rubber), tropical fruit (mango, pineapple) and woody, spicy notes. There are also lovely roasted notes, leather and dark chocolate. The profile is not necessarily dirty, but presents a fine Caroni archetype. The olfaction offers a round, balanced and intense rum. The palate is rich and balanced. The profile is varied and very drinkable. Hydrocarbons and tropical fruits (pineapple, mango) blend with spices, dark chocolate, leather and toasty oak. Caramel and toffee bring a welcome sweetness to this profile. The alcohol is not perceptible at all, the integration is just remarkable. The finish is not eternal, but shows great roundness, notably on aromas of caramel, toffee, vanilla and tropical fruit. Spices and darker, empyreumatic notes lend a certain power that contrasts with the sweetness to bring balance. A Caroni above the Vintage basket, but unfortunately beyond reasonable price.

Great '98 ... not my favorite vintage, but this really is one of the better ones in the glass. Mango and other tropical fruits meet rubber, petrol, tar and mint with nuts, chocolate and caramel. My sample is very cloudy and makes dark clouds in the glass every time it settles ... is probably from the bottom of the cask or bottle. The high ABV is relatively well integrated.

On the nose, the typical Caroni notes. Rubber, tar, all this time also with a slight sweetness. On the palate, a really intense bomb. However, also with a unique sharpness. I like it very much.

Interesting rough profile, little bitter to my taste, but full and complex rum from nosing to finish filled with tar, wood, leather, tropical fruits, anise, caramel, dark chocolate and more and more coming out. Nice Paradise, not exactly #6 but still very drinkable (but not for this price tag:)

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing rum at the height of its fame, which was added in a ratio of 1:10 to naval blends. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is really a unique rum.
