Basically a quite nice rum, only the alcohol could be better integrated. Also quite an ester bomb, although here the tropical fruits are in the background. You can actually recognize much more bacon and smoke here.

A smoky aroma on the nose. Quite clear whisky notes on the palate, but also great high ester notes. I'm not really into whisky finishes, but with the high ester rums with the planned overripe fruit, it works to some extent.

Exciting nose that actually delivers exactly what you expect: tropical fruits Hampden, especially pineapple and behind that some smoke. On the palate, it's the other way around: a lot of smoke that even keeps the Hampden esters pretty much under control. I'm usually not a fan of finishes, but if so, the fruity Hampdens handle it best. Here, however, I find the finish a bit too dominant. But since the whole thing was bottled by or for the Brühler Whiskyhaus, I'm sure the rum will find its fans.

For me, the combination of rum and Islay casks usually doesn't work. Too often the flavors clash or the peat smoke is too dominant. With this bottling, it just about works, although the peated Islay malt, contrary to the nose, hits fully on the palate, causing the lines between rum and whisky to blur somewhat. However, the high ester content saves the overall impression and makes it a generally good bottling.
