Sherry, white wine and a heavy whisky streak — blind, most tasters would swear this was a sherried Scotch, not a Japanese pot-still rum. Vanilla, stone fruit (apricot and peach come up a lot), toasted nuts and an earthy, smoky edge sit underneath. At 58% the alcohol is well integrated, but this is a young, cask-driven oddity that lands "erfrischend anders" for some and off-category for others.

Tasted in the RumX Advent calendar. I really doubted whether this was rum or a (Scotch) whisky. Yes, there is some sherry (but rather of the stale kind) and for me an all-overwhelming whisky taste. And I just don't like that at all. The fact that others like it and I don't is already reflected in my rating. I couldn't/wouldn't finish my sample but I'm sure the rum hits other tastes. Just not mine at all.

Rum X Advent 7.12.22: I would have guessed Plantation Long Pond with some smoky/grapey finish. Has traits of a Gewürztraminer. Special Tasting Note of today's rum: Associations to a petroleum wick candle. It tastes, surprisingly complex for its age. But it's not quite my profile.

just looked up the tasting notes of the Encrypted III and IV again. The II is closer to the IV. On the nose, yeast pastry with powdered sugar on top, white wine, candied yellow fruit, also a bit earthy-nutty. On the palate also white wine, apricot brandy, pecan. In the finish oak barrel.

A distinctive Japanese rum, whose nose reveals the influence of finish and whisky. Spicy, smoky, dried fruit and hazelnut notes are present, with an almost pastry-like influence. The attack on the palate is lively, marked by spirits and bordering on spiciness. Wood, spices, smoky notes and a hint of salt and earth are present. The finish is more pleasant, returning to hazelnut, spice and a touch of freshness that brings out the scents of whisky and sake. All in all, this is a bewildering rum, at the crossroads of spirits, which needs more integration and maturity to be a rum in its own right. There's no doubt that Asia has extraordinary potential for the coming years in the world of rum.

29.01.2022 Going through some samples at home. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Intense, fruity, faint medicinal, metallic, faint chocolate, light glue, apple, light orange. Palate Intense, faint wood, glue, medium spicy, fruity, overripe, mango, faint smoke. Finish Medium to long, faint wood, warm, light medicinal, light apple, faint melon. Extra note. This one needs to rest for a goos while and is definitely not for beginners.

Very strange rum experience, blind I would have sweared it was whisky with heavy sherry notes. Quite young, but could have some potential.

RumX Calendar 7: A very intense sherry-wine-whisky nose with a slight buttery yeast touch! The longer it stays in the glass, the more the yeast aromas dominate. On the palate, it spreads creamy in the mouth. Also here this previously mentioned intense aroma. The finish is relatively long and wine-heavy! All in all a special rum, of a different kind! Doesn't fit into any category like this.

RumX Advent calendar 2022: Extreme cask influence with a mix of wine, whisky, sake, and sherry. The other aromas (vegetal, earthy, smoky) stay in the background. Apricot is prominent on the palate.

Another “first time” tasting for me..this time we move to the Far East..this iteration of the encrypted clearly states how rums can be different from one Country to another..the first thing I get when sniffing it is kinda confusing..I thought I was sipping a Milk Clarified New York Sour with its wine float on top..you get a ton of tannin, maybe a milky sweetness , then fresh fruit (I sense peach and apricot, maybe a hint of ananas) and a not-so-clear nutty flavor (almond or maybe hazelnut). Very consistent on the mouth. For its original price, it’s really a piece to have!

How come? Even in a blind tasting, without knowing it’s a Japanese, I would smell and taste sake there. Fermented rice… not meant negatively, I like it. But from this source, I’ve had better rum in the glass.

Bottle Very interesting. Found for whisky lovers. Feels like a young and sweet rum. With impressions of yeast. Green. But also chocolate. Sherry. And caramel. A bit of smoke like that. Overall a nice bottle that maybe doesn't quite manage to win you over but leaves some kind of impression. Not something I can recommend buying.

The nose I like much better than the taste. Reminds me a little of the Casamigos Reposado with its strong vanilla and caramel note and the minerality in the taste. Rum would not have been my first association in blind test.
