Sipped neat, this is a gentle old Uitvlugt: wood that's surprisingly restrained for 26 years, sweet spice, anise and vanilla, with poached stone fruit — peach, pear, plum — and dried fruit underneath. The texture is oily, the finish long but dry. Several tasters call it easy-drinking and balanced; a few wish it had more body and depth for such an old Demerara.

#4931 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Balanced, wood, light roasted, faint anise, dried fruit, faint citrus, faint caramel, light earthy. Palate Oily, fresh, balanced, wood, light roasted, medium dry, spice, light citrus, light tobacco, light plum. Finish Long, balance, oily, medium dry, light wood, light roasted, dried fruit, faint plum, faint caramel.

Whisky Live Paris 2025. A beautiful, balanced and complex nose. Old varnished wood stands on par with leather and dried fruits. Bitter caramel, vanilla, and fresh fruits complete the picture. The first palate is silky, rich, and balanced. Then the aromas fade and are replaced by a kind of fruit alcohol. Then everything comes back up and the finish is again complex and balanced. A very nice rum even though the mid-palate costs it some points.

3rd GAF Stuttgart This bottling was also a nice find at Emile's Catawiki stand. I think this bottling is once again very successful, everything you would expect from a Demerara. But for the price that's being asked again, it's definitely not worth it for me, which I think is a shame.

Fair review Second impression: Great Demerara that has it all

A rather pleasant, no-nonsense Uitvlugt. The nose is pleasantly fruity, with pear, peach, dried fruit and citrus. The wood is not overpowering, leaving more room for spices (aniseed, vanilla), pastry and toasted notes. The whole is soft and balanced. The structure of the nose is echoed on the palate, with dried fruit, citrus, tobacco, roasted wood, spices and pastry caramel. The rum has an oily texture on the palate, but leaves a rather dry trail in the background. The profile is not unpleasant, but the whole lacks a little richness and complexity. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is moderately long. The Demerara profile comes through a little more, with sugar, spices, roasted notes and dried fruit on the prune. The aftertaste remains dry but fragrant. A pleasant rum to sip and easy to approach, but a little limited compared with expectations of an old Uitvlugt from the last century.

Tasting at WLP 2025. A good representative of the Demerara Uitvlugt style in tropical and continental aging. 👃 Wood, soft spices, anise, licorice, pencil shavings, smell of cooking poached fruits (yellow and white), light starfruit, candied yellow lemon, vanilla. 😋 Woody, poached fruits (peach, pear, plum), light citrus, pink pepper, freshness of blond tobacco, dry vanilla, creamy flower honey, light star anise, chalk dryness, pastries based on pink biscuits from Reims. Balanced flavors.

For 26 years of aging, unusually little wood and yet balanced. Crazy peach and apricot aromas combined with Demerara sugar and very elegant! Definitely impressive. Delicious stuff

Too little intensity but it's an easy sipper fruity/citrus quite surprising. Nice notes of white pepper as well, but well, the price cools down quickly for such a 'simple' juice.
