It's not a bad everyday sipper, a bit one dimensional is about my only critique. Very sweet on the nose and palate, with the sherry influence very clear, which for me isn't a bad thing. Fruits, caramel and some wood influence

Edit: Tasted again in the Flower of Hawaii in the Jet Pilot, but I was just as unconvinced by it as I was with cola, unfortunately. Well, to be honest, it wasn't really my favorite and will probably never be one of the BlackTot things. I think the finish is very present and ruins a lot here.

Pub The Rumah Rotterdam April 2026. You can try this rum, it's nothing special though, but the price is totally exaggerated. This rum is very fruity, with some wood and a light sweetness also noticeable.

#4876 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Round, light wood, fruity, light ester, banana, light caramel, faint coffee, faint smoke, light orange. Palate Balanced, light wood, faint roasted, round, clove, light licorice, faint leather, fruits, light orange, dried fruit, light ester. Finish Medium long, round, fresh, balanced, fruits, light wood, faint caramel, light coffee. This is solera done right in my mind. If you try it without knowing it's a solera you'd never guess that it is. I'd say it's between the standard version and the 50th Anniversary taste wise.

Verdict: I wouldn't say this is very balanced, but as an everyday sipper it's quite OK! It's quite sherry (or pajarette) driven, but smooth and velvety. 78 points Nose: interesting oxidised note after pouring. Sour grapes and even some meaty oxtail notes. It was almost as if pajarette was used. It settles quickly enough, for red fruit, dried fruit (prune), molasses, wood, and dark chocolate. It's rather like a sherried whisky. Palate: more of the sweet stuff: raisins, prune, leather, wood. Yet I do have the feeling that pajarette was used, also here. Does it matter? No, it tastes great! Dark chocolate, honey. Finish: moderate, a bit of fresh fruit here (orange), like in Pimm's cookies, raisin, prune, leather, honey and chocolate.

The nose is nicely strong. Woody, sherry. A little bit of licorice. On the palate, a good portion of red wine comes through. The usual Black TOT taste is very much overshadowed here by the sherry/wine note. If you like this extra, you'll be well served here.

Hard to classify on the nose, rather not my thing. On the palate typical Black Tot, but the PX sherry dominates too much. I like PX, but here the balance tips. Okay for the price, but not a must!

Historic Solera and the countries used Barbados, Guyana & Jamaica definitely come through here. The sherry casks are clearly recognizable, yet the rum blend feels pleasantly dry and not too sweet. All countries are basically recognizable, with Guyana (Diamond?) setting the tone for me with licorice, coffee, and allspice notes. Jamaica (Worthy Park?) adds slightly sour notes, nutmeg, and banana. Barbados (West Indies?) underlines the notes and brings balance. Surprisingly successful blend that historically shows both how Navy rums were blended in the past and how sherry casks played a huge role. Overall, however, it is still a bit too thin and watery for me. 4-10% more alcohol would certainly have brought out much more.

I poured a measure of Black Tot Historic Solera today. This rum, born of a blend comprised of Guyana's robust heart, Barbados's subtle grace, and Jamaica's wild funk, then aged in a Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Solera system, emerges as a very pleasing spirit. The nose assaults with bold sherry, figs and plums. Flanked by chocolate and caramel, and a hint of coffee. On the palate, richness prevails and the sherry's grip tightens; a brandy-like character emerges too. Dark fruits meld with oak creating a chewiness neither overly sweet nor harshly austere. The finish leaves echoes of fruit and spice. A purist may find the barrel influence here too overpowering, however, this rum stands firm with enough complexities to intrigue, whilst still remaining approachable. It’s earnt its place in the collection. Cheers!

Quite sweet, but that was to be expected. Can be drunk well, even if I smelled and tasted a little "New Year's Eve" - although bystanders didn't notice this, perhaps my nose was just a little too closed. Not overpowering and also quite common in sherry maturations, but certainly not everyone's cup of tea. Tasted at the Spirit in the Sky Festival in Brussels 11/2024

Quickly tried at UK RumFest. It didn’t really work for me. Particularly after having some fantastic rums and the MBR 2023 just before, I really was underwhelmed (even given the reduction in price). It is a little sweet and one dimensional. I’d pick the cheaper standard blend over this sherry solera blend.

I can't quite place the aroma on the nose; I'm not particularly fond of it. It tastes like a real black tot, but the sherry/PX cask flavor comes through clearly. I love PX, but it's too dominant. And with PX, that balance can easily get out of whack. In this case, it's leaning towards a bit too much. A reasonable sipper for the price/quality ratio. Maybe I'll try it another time.

Quite full-bodied, with caramel and sherry. The English Pusser's style comes through strongly. There are also coffee notes, woody notes, a little monolithic, but good. For fans of entry-level El Dorado, this should please you.

Sample 2 of 3 from UK Brand Ambassador and, for my palate, WAY more lovely than the Finest Caribbean Rum! I do love a Sherry Cask whisky and this just reminds me (and almost tastes like) a Sherry cask whisky - all those lovely Sherry notes of dried fruits, stewed fruits, jammy fruits, slight oaky tannins (not the strongest tannins flavour I’ve experienced which I approve of!) although caramel and the tiniest touch of vanilla eventually creeps through! I believe the rum is in there however, to my palate, it’s very much playing a supporting role to the Sherry cask flavours - raisins, prunes, figs, cherries even alongside the sweetness of the rums blended in. To my palate, this feels like every Sherry cask they used for this blend was VERY fresh casks indeed and great quality for something that is core range. What’s weird is that the finish is WAY shorter than the Finest Caribbean Rum bottling - Medium Short (not quite medium but slightly longer than Short!). In fact I would argue the finish primarily is on my palate rather than the throat. This is VERY drinkable and quite crushable a bottling! My heart says to score it an 8/10 purely based on flavour however I can barely pick out any rum notes because the sherry notes are so dominant (in the whisky world, it’s pretty much Sherrybomb territory, which is mad for a 46.2% ABV rum!) So I’m gonna score it a respectable 7.5/10 I WILL be buying a bottle of this

Caribbean blend in Solera process, further matured in Scotland (Oloroso & PX casks) and bottled. The 46.2% are really well integrated. A dry yet slightly sweet rum with a bit of complexity. The already spoiled nose is not disappointed later on the palate either. Conclusion: When the bottle is empty, I'll buy a new one :-).

A great accessible rum from Black Tot. You can still taste the regular BT in this sherried version. They took that regular version and aged it for 2 years in ex- sherry barrels before putting it into their solera system for an additional 3 years. So yes, you definitely get a lot of sherry influence but it is not overdone in my opinion. I reckon those first two years give the color and the basic sherry notes whereas the solera system brings in the depth in flavor. In general I mostly get vanilla (weirdly enough) and red fruits but every now and then it gives you a small sample of something else like rubber, chocolate, tobacco or spice.

10/10/2025: S9T1 (special casks tasting) @ TasTToe. The Sherry maturation is very dominant with this rum. You get a "dirty" oxidized note both on the nose and palate due to the Sherry influence. Not my favorite to be honest.

On the Rocks: On the nose there is a subtle sherry, oak, vanilla and caramel with hints of black pepper. Taste reveals a heavy spice and oak that is not sweet with subtle hints of sherry and dark chocolate. Finish is medium length moving a little more bitter with hints of fig and dark chocolate. It basically tastes like watered-down classic Black Tot drowned in oloroso sherry. Is it bad? Not if you're crazy for sherry and want to feel as much of the cherry/nutty aroma as possible. But If you're here just for the rum, you may as well skip this release and save for other BT releases.

If you're expecting an original Black Tot with a bit of sherry, you're in the wrong place here. Sherry, sweetness, and roasted aromas dominate and initially overpower everything in the taste. Unfortunately, the Black Tot flavor is lost because of this. In the finish, the ester comes through again - and it lingers for a while.

The rum bottle description seems like you are about to enjoy something with sweetness, cherry and figs... however the taste is sharp with a quick tingle, with a following of heavy spice. The taste doesn't last long. Not a huge fan of this Rum.

I consider it a winter sipper to enjoy in front of the fireplace. The nose and palate confirm each other with toasted notes of chocolate and tobacco. The sherry is especially present on the palate. The finish is medium to medium-long with sweet sensations that turn slightly bitter.
