Edit Edit: RumX Calendar Day 18 Today, shortly after pouring the sample, I had the smell of glue in my nose. This thing is really good. Unfortunately the day was too stressful, but when I briefly smelled my open bottle of Maverick there was a very strong similarity. Unfortunately, I missed tasting it. All in all, corrected upwards again. Edit: tore open a second bottle. This thing is already a better Great House, the price is higher, but it's worth going on the hunt again. Adjusted upwards a little. Really nice piece, for the fact that the blend consists of relatively young marks, it can do quite well. Thought again that this was an overpriced Great House. But I was pleasantly surprised.

The rum leaves me with ambivalent feelings: very nice ester nose with the typical Hampden notes of fermented fruit, pineapple etc.. All of this can also be found in the long finish. Unfortunately, there is one off-note in the mouth that clearly bothers me. A bitter note, wet cardboard, green cut. Still a good rum, but not a very good one for me, especially not in the flood of readily available bottlings.

Update: now tried again in the advent calendar. In the meantime, I've already had the GH24 for comparison. It's no match for the Maverick. Still top. Good Hampden, delicious. I can taste a (ripe) HGML banana component. It pairs nicely with a good proportion of low ester components. Uncomplicated to drink. Great for the release price.

RumX Calendar 2024 Day 18: Fruity nose of rotting pineapple, but not too sour. Hampden low ester. On the palate it becomes more intense, drier. Still lots of fruit, but more esters. Intense but alcohol super integrated. Medium-long finish, astringent. I like it very much! Blend of high and low ester Hampden. Suspect a Great House, possibly 2020?

#4903 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, balanced, light alcohol, fruits, light honey, light pineapple, faint olive, light wood, faint smoke. Palate Medium intense, light wood, fruits, light pineapple, light banana, light alcohol, light olive, faint salt, faint nutts. Finish Medium to long, light wood, fruits, light banana, faint citrus, light olive, faint rubber. This one har more punch in the profile than the Great House 2024 and it needs to rest for the ABV to really settle.

While I‘m not 100% sold on the nose, I very much enjoy the intense showing on the palate. The nose is less lively than I would expect given the blended marks, yet it is well balanced showing classic Hampden markers. Much more intensity on the palate with HGML (and C<>H) taking center stage. Very nice blend and my favorite out of the latest OG Hampden blends.

RunX Advent calendar, day 18. A nose of esters, glue and tropical fruit that seems to mark its provenance. Discreet wood. I don't think we're into very high esters, but it's moving all the same. The palate, too, is powerful, with the same aromas as on the nose. The wood, however, is much more pronounced and dominates the finish. A rather long finish, marked by the bitterness of the wood. A well-made rum, but lacking a little complexity and depth.

The nose immediately makes it clear: this must be a Hampden rum! Lots of sweet grilled pineapple, nice and intense but not brute. Palate: Like the nose + olives and brine. Seems very mature! The rum has a very dry finish. Alcohol content estimated at 58%. The rum looks like a good representative of the 2013 or even 1992/90 vintage. I guessed RX15404. At least the alcohol content is very well estimated 😉 Amazing how mature tropically aged Hampden can be!

A positive surprise! In contrast to the great house series, which has hardly convinced me so far. It has everything a good Hampden needs: salty, toasty, sweet, fruity and sour. Roasted almonds, olive brine, tart overripe pineapple, buttery esters and generally quite balanced and very drinkable! Delicious 😁🙏🏼

RX Calendar 24: I was admittedly a little skeptical about the many praises, but I have to say I really like it. From the framework data (50% HGML 2018, 40% LFCH 2020 and 10% C<>H 2021) I would have expected it to be 'lighter', but it looks really complex and solid.

8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get are esters, solvents, tropical fruits like pineapple, banana are overripe, there is citrus, a molasses is vegetal, as a wood is spicy and roasted with vanilla, nuts, marzipan. On aeration, the rum becomes floral, darker with chocolate, baking spices and meat notes. 8,6:On the palate, the esters are strong, solvents more underneath, as the tropical fruits overripe with banana, pineapple, the molasses is vegetal with an olive, the wood sweet with roasted notes like caramel, maple spicy with vanilla and after resting, there are yellow, dried fruits, salty and meaty notes. 8,6:The finish is long, dry, fruity with tropical overripe and citrus fruits, the wood is roasted, smoky and spicy, the molasses still vegetal.There is also some rubber. Very consistent, tasty, but no ovations..

RumX Advent Calendar 2024 Day 18: Here we have a very, very good Hampden. The typical tropical fruits and esters on the nose. On the palate also a lot of esters, I can recognize pineapple and banana.

Ohh..., it's surprisingly tasty! New Beginnings didn't stand out from the Great House series, but the Maverick can do more. Pineapple, banana and marzipan on the nose. Nice fruity-sour, sweet and only slightly woody/roasty on the palate. I like it very much.

In my opinion, a good Hampden blend that I would always prefer to the Great House. Alcohol is perfectly integrated. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Nice balance of sweetness and acidity. Pleasant fruity notes with a hint of marzipan.

RumX Advent calendar day 18: On the nose: Holla, clearly a Jamaican! If that's not a Hampden. A tropical fruit basket with pineapple and passion fruit. This continues on the palate. The tropical fruit basket is even more complex and intense here. Really nicely rounded. The alcohol is very well integrated. It strikes me as a particularly well-rounded Great House and reminds me of the Hampden Maverick. Finishes pleasantly with pineapple and passion fruit. So I'm pretty sure that it's a Hampden, but with a higher ester level. Since it sounds familiar to me, I'm guessing it's the Hampden Maverick.

Tasted blind alongside the GH21. The nose is very reminiscent of other GH bottlings, especially the GH22, as there is also a relatively large amount of fermentation here. For me, the GH21 has the upper hand on the nose in direct comparison. I like the Maverick better on the palate. All in all, for me it is on a par with the better GH releases, but for me personally not worth the "collector's price".

Beautiful piece. Pleasant caramelized ester smell in the nose at first. Good fruity notes. Slightly creamy on the palate, honey-sweet with fermented fruit. I'm still missing a little punch, but a very good blend.

A beautiful blend from the house of Hampden. Shows that a good blend does not always have to consist only of old rums. Alcohol very well integrated. Price is more for collectors or Hampden fanboys (unfortunately I'm one of them 😉).

Day 18 of the RumX advent calendar: As soon as it is poured, pronounced ester vapors spread throughout the room, giving hope for an intense taste experience. This is confirmed very quickly, although the start in the mouth is somewhat sour at first. The increasing fruitiness and the toasty oak with its slightly smoky hints of crispy bacon develop an appealing complexity, which culminates in a very fine and lasting finish.

Powerful Hampden with a classic estery profile. Intense tropical fruits such as pineapple and banana on the nose, accompanied by a clear solvent freshness. These fruits prevail on the palate, complemented by salty notes and a hint of marzipan. The balance between sweet and dry is successful, the finish remains focused and slightly spicy. Overall, a very successful modern interpretation of the Jamaican pot still style.

In a way it wasn’t that bad to get home too late for the blind tasting tonight. Now I don’t feel rushed and can take my time with this. A rum I was looking forward to taste after hearing and reading some promising things about it . The oldest rum in this blend is only 6 years old, amazing what the end result has become. Typical Hampden smell, I could stick my nose in the glass forever, with some marzipan pastry fumes in the back. From the start the alcohol is very well integrated. Delicious fruity esters. Part of it seems to evaporate in the mouth, creating almost a gas-like sensation. There’s a kind of dirty rubbery/chemical hint as well on the back of the tongue going to the throat. The finish spoils the palate for quite a while and that’s a very enjoyable finale, all the while inviting the next sip. Over time the whole thing just mellows in the glass, making you think that it’s something much older that you’re enjoying. A very well made blend indeed. For me as exciting as trying the Great House for the first time back in 2020.

RumX Advent Calendar 2024: No. 18 Another rum from Jamaica today. Lots of ester notes in the nose and on the palate. Tropical fruits such as pineapple round off the rum very nicely. Alcohol could be integrated a little better. Tannins are very noticeable. Overall, however, the quality is impressive.

Day 18 RumX Advent calendar Really good Jamaican. It has everything with esters, tropical fruits, cookie dough and young wood. Probably best compared to the Great House bottlings. A flawless rum, although it is not a complexity monster.

Typical Hampden scent. Lots of banana-pineapple, medium esters. Nicely balanced, great. One of the best Jamaican scents ever. Flavor-wise, similar. Emotionally, I'd guess it's more estery than Great House. More banana at first, then more pineapple and molasses on the finish.

Hampden in any case. Ester content <>H or HLCF. Tropical storage at least 5 years. First thought of a 1992. But seems younger. So more towards 2013. Alcohol below 60%. Would guess a <>H 2013. Edit: I wouldn't have expected a blend. But the key data match what I guessed. Haven't had the Maverick in a glass yet. Really tasty. Unfortunately also quite a hype bottling.

20/06/2025: Road Rummers Jamaican supertasting @ TastToe. Good Hampden. On the nose: tropical fruits, pineapple and some glue. Palate is similar with a nice long finish. Maybe a bit too expensive compared to some of the Great House releases.

Blind tasting advent calendar 2024: nice round Hampden nose. Esternites well recognizable as well as the pineapple. Really a great drop on the palate. Has enough wimms, enough ester, nice finish. Really great.

The nose is very fruity, with banana, pineapple, esters and solvents. Really delicious on the palate. Very warm, with the pastry and fruity notes found in hampden. However, as the tasting progresses, much more floral and honey notes develop. What's also surprising is the very soft texture on the palate.

This is really a beautifully crafted rum. The nose and palate are very aligned, you get typical Hampden notes with great delicacy. The strong funky banana and pineapple are present, with a background of marzipan vanilla and yeast. Delicious, complex and balanced experience.

Zvlášť jsem rád za přímé porovnání New Beginnings a Maverick. Obě vydání pro mě skvěle odráží fáze života, ke kterým byla vydána. 🤵♂️👰♂️New Beginnings (svatba) je skvělý výstřel do života, živost a nadšení v nose a zároveň vyrovaný poměr ovoce (přezrálý ananas a banán) a chemie (lak na nehty) jako dva divocí partneři a celkově působí sladší, jako sladké bezstarostné dny, ale kdesi v dálce nás drží při zemi lehká zemitost a bylinkovost. 👶 Maverick (narození dítěte) pořad neztrácí elán, pořád je tam živost ovoce (zejména se dostáva do popředí ananasová šťáva), ale mírnější, i chemie je krotčí, naopak se dostává do popředí jistá "vyzrálost" v podobě dřevitosti a lehké praženosti, hej ovoce a chemie, klid, nejste tu sami!
