#4905 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Balanced, light wood, faint roasted, dried fruit, spices, faint earthy, light cinnamon, faint caramel. Palate Round, oily, balanced, light wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light caramel, faint nutts, spices, light tea, berries, faint mint. Finish Medium to long, balanced, light wood, fruits, light berries, light caramel, spice, faint mint, light herbal. This is a really nice bottling and I liked it a lot. Really well balanced profile and I think most can drink it.

New grove is a brand I like more and more. This cuvée is more than pleasant. I find some similarities here with certain fruity cherry tdl's, mentholated freshness, caramel... It's greedy, with an accessible complexity.

Wood dominates this rum, on every level. Mentholated and spicy notes accompany it. Dried fruit and cinnamon too. The alcohol is at a parsit level for me and is nicely integrated. A fruity trait that I can't quite identify. Very pleasant

A New Grove that clearly plays the gourmet card. Accessible, generous, it seduces right from the nose with its woody notes. Highly concentrated aromas on the palate, without any aggressiveness, with a light menthol that quickly fades away. Never disappointed with this type of product.

A nose of spices, cherry, slightly earthy. A superb palate of spices, menthol and tea. A very fine rum.

WL 2024 More roasted than usual on the nose (tending towards Foursquare/Travellers), the fruity New Grove makes its way onto the palate for yet another fine success. Decidedly a small distillery on the rise, on the rise, on the rise...

Tonight, back to the New Grove Savoir-Faire 2008 - Single Cask R313 - 49,8% recently tasted with pal Selvamino. The New Grove distillery in Mauritius is winning over a growing number of enthusiasts in Belgium and elsewhere. Its distinctive style - lively, taut, oscillating between tropical fruits, flowers and spices, but above all relatively dry - wasn't always the most accessible when it arrived on our market. Unflattering to lovers of sweet or very round rums, it is now attracting the attention of connoisseurs in search of authenticity. This single cask, distilled in 2008 from molasses, was made on column at Grays Distillery. It was aged for 15 years in a tropical climate, in Limousin oak casks, before being bottled at 49.8% brut de fût. 👃 Nose: Very balanced, floral and intensely exotic, it immediately evokes the islands. Pretty, ripe tropical fruits come to the fore: mango, quince, raspberry, all wrapped up in a honeyed, gourmand sweetness. The whole is both expressive and refined. 👄 Palate: A superb continuation of the nose, with an attack on pure cane sugar, followed by candied exotic fruits: mango, apricot, peach in the form of tart candies. The whole is harmonious, well-balanced, without overflowing. On the second palate, there's more spicy dryness, with a slight bitterness on the finish, giving the rum character without ever detracting from the pleasure. Power is perfectly controlled. 🔚 Finish: Fairly long, gradually drying out, without aggressiveness. There's a woody bitterness, a marked spicy structure, and a rawer, almost vegetal trace of cane sugar. ✅ Conclusion: A rum with character, complex yet accessible, a perfect illustration of New Grove's savoir-faire. An expressive, precise, superbly balanced single cask - to be shared among enthusiasts of dry, elegant profiles.
