If you already love mezcal, this unaged Haitian clairin will click fast. Grass, olive and wet mineral lead the nose, then the palate turns earthy and smoky — bacon, teriyaki, a touch of peat — with salt, pepper and flashes of tomato and pineapple. Dry but surprisingly round at 51%, with a long savoury finish. Nobody calls it tame.

To round off the day, there is a great Clairin. On the nose it is very herbal and mineral, grass is recognizable. On the palate it is very fresh and earthy. Agricole can be recognized here.

#4880 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Vegetal, light grass, light citrus, light minerals, light herbal, light coconut, spice, light smoke. Palate Round, fresh, berries, faint salt, light smoke, faint peat, light pineapple, light coconut, spice, light tomato. Finish Medium long, round, fruits, faint floral, faint smoke, light peat, faint tomato, spice. Not bad actually and a surprising touch with the smoke and peat.

Nose: faint floral and olives, grass/vegetal, strong soy, smoky teriyaki/bbq, hint of peat, but savoury? Palate: bitter, sharp, earthy (like a Mezcal), tobacco, faint nuts, grassy, peppery, pineapple, tomato? Finish: medium, dry, bitter, tomato/grassy, tobacco, faint lingering savouriness. Very much like a Mezcal, fans of which will like this. But alas, a Mezcal fan I am not, but I appreciate it for how unique it is.

A clairin in the pure Haitian tradition. Very fresh and vegetal, the nose delivers olive, grass, root, and other herbaceous aromas that blend well with the profile. The latter presents smoky, spicy, and mineral tones that bring complexity, as well as hints of citrus that enhance the structure. An intense, dry, and very varied nose. The palate is original and concentrated in aromas. The smoky side comes through with bacon, as do salty notes, spices, and aromatic herbs (coriander). There are also hints of tomato and pineapple, as well as more earthy and peaty notes. Mezcal also bursts onto the palate, adding eccentricity to this hybrid profile. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is very long, enhanced by smoky, peaty, earthy and salty influences. A medicinal, floral and spicy aftertaste emerges at the end. The overall impression is dry but remains relatively round and pleasant on the palate. A very fine raw clairin release that highlights the richness of this terroir.

Another Clairin that i found at my Samplebottle vaults. On the nose: Vegetal, light mineral, light grassy notes, olive notes, light roasted notes and maybe some light coconut notes. Taste: Grassy, vegetal, salty, olive notes at first. Then you get some roasted, smoky notes and palate reminds little bit of mezcal. Light pineapple notes in there too. Finish: Smoky, light earthy notes, light floral notes, salty and little bit of that mezcal feel is in the finish too. Surprisingly good range leaning little bit towards mineral and olive notes with little bit of mezcal notes too.

Wonderful masterclass with Daniele Biondi. It was great to try to whole range. The story of Clairin and Haiti 🇭🇹 is absolutely amazing. It is a privilege to be able to try such a pure product at home. Using sirop which is diluted with water and distilled. The sirup is in 4 vats skimmed from one to another with fire under 1 vat leaving the best of the juice and leaving the impurities in the vats. Very vegetal
