More multifaceted than many others from A.H. Riise. Apricot, caramel, orange and sherry are dominant on the palate. Somewhat sharp on the finish. Probably the A.H. Riise that can best be described as a rum. delicious but too expensive

Sweet and fruity. The fruity notes on the nose are rather mild, but clearly in the foreground on the palate. The finish lingers long with a hint of wood at the end. Overall, a nice drop.

17.12.2025 Day 17 of my Christmas Calendar, and yes another sweet rum 🙃 ----------- This rum has a clear hint of sherry and its a very sweet rum though better than most other Riise rums. Long sweet finish with fruit and caramel and smoke/tobacco. A bit too sweet for my taste.

8:The nose is highly perfumed: exotic pepper berries and ginger seeds. Cinnamon adds to this impression of sophisticated candy. It is also vegetal and even floral at times. Fruit is represented by a rather acidic red plum, balanced by a creamy side, the whole reminding us of a clafouti where a few cherries would also have fallen. Then comes something darker, more roasted.Aeration dissipates the burnt, roasted side, replacing it with a small solvent that recedes onto the cinnamon, which is present at every level. The orange peel nuances the candy idea we had at the outset. Even if it's still quite sweet, this expression seems to stand out from the rest of the range. The Christmas gingerbread aspect is still there, but brand afficionados can rest assured. 7,4:The attack on the palate is soft, with a winey, slightly rancio quality. The sensation is warm and oily, with aromas of chocolate, orange and vanilla. The woodiness is licorice-like, coated in molasses where rather rich, complex spices would be caught. 7,2:The finish is sweet, reminiscent of a liqueur or sweet wine...

Although I was already a little nauseous from the A.H. Riise spirits, I still tried the "Non Plus Ultra Vers Rare". This name sets off all the alarm bells :-D Here, too, the familiar palette of flavors, this time with a little more chocolate. Absolutely mediocre.

Non plus Ultra = sweet, fruity, and high-quality rum. The Very Rare is no exception here. Vanilla, caramel, and orange take center stage and prove that the name wasn’t chosen without reason. Excellent rum and for me a reason to add all Non plus Ultra rums to the collection. Since the price is no longer in the lowest range, it belongs only to me and won’t be shared 😉

Wow, this stuff is sweet. Like putting a Don Papa into a heavily toasted oak barrel again. So pretty intense sweetness. If there was only a third of this, it would definitely be enough. The only question is whether the alcohol would then stand out too much.

The A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Very Rare Rum is very sweet on the nose. Aromas of maple syrup, caramel, and vanilla. The taste takes a clearly different direction though. Very very sweet (like a liqueur) with notes of maple syrup and brown sugar plus intense citrus fruit notes (mandarin, orange, orange peels) that almost seem artificial. The mouthfeel is very pleasant. The alcohol is very well integrated, so you don't notice it. It's very mild and soft. Not a particularly complex rum. More like a dessert after a meal or just as a "sweet treat." I find the price way too high for what is offered.

On the nose, dried fruits, sugarcane, chewing gum, gummy bears, cinnamon, and the smell of Christmas. In the glass, the rum feels oily and shines in a bright red mahogany color. On the tongue, an intense taste of dried apricot, dark brown sugar, cinnamon, all with extreme sweetness. Not for diabetics or lovers of dry rums. On the finish, the dried apricots and gummy bears are clearly noticeable again. A real dessert rum.

Pleasant, easy to drink and uncomplicated just like many other rums from A.H. Riise. On the palate, notes of apricot, caramel, orange and sherry are noticeable.. Pleasant sharp and spicy finish. A good and nicely drinkable rum from A.H. Riise, which can best be described as a good rum. Tasty, but for many connoisseurs maybe too sweet.

Actually a quite nice rum if it weren't so sweet. Certainly better than most A.H Riise but still way too sweetened. Unfortunately, the sweetness overwhelms the surely present flavor nuances.

When I tried this rum at my first whisky fair back then, I thought it was the best rum had to offer and now I find it relatively flat and at best pleasant – luckily taste changes and you develop further. Nevertheless, it has an interesting mix of tobacco, orange and leather and even more orange. Unlike back then, I have since developed a bit of an aversion to overly sweet rums and the rest of the bottle probably stays for guests who don’t like normal rum.

This is my second NPU rum and a disappointment. The nose is weak and surprisingly the alcohol is just as strong as the fruit etc. is perceptible. The same continues on the palate. The whole thing is complemented by an artificial sweetness. The finish is short and unspectacular!

A rum-based spirit with 42%. This blend consists of various "old" distillates from the West Indian islands and Central America. The first impression on the nose is slightly biting, so better let it sit in the glass for 10 minutes. After that, the orange with mint comes out better. The orange is also prominent in the taste, and in the finish, you keep caramel with a hint of vanilla on the palate.

I expected less difference compared to the black edition, but it is still a different profile. It reminds me of a spiced rum (and of Actifed cough syrup), for which this is quite expensive. Very sweet with hints of orange and peach. Goes well with the fresh Italian cookies tonight, but that's about all there is to say. Feels much more like a sweet liqueur than a rum. Plus points for the bottle, which is one of the most beautiful. Minus points for the taste, which to me generally tastes too sweet and artificial.

The color as usual yellow like old pee or honey, light brown tones. The nose sweet vanilla wood and spice, marmalade, punch etc The taste is very sweet, woody, some kind of artificial…quick short after taste… To be honest I don’t differentiate between all those a h rises rums, they all taste the same…all sweet one is more woody, other more fruity, full of sugar and nothing special here…lets open something better.

With Riise Non Plus Ultra, you have to take your time. Tasted too quickly, it disappoints a bit and only the strong sweetness remains. I only noticed the subtleties after longer nosing, and there was also an earthy note for me. The tasting then surprises with quite different impressions and the earthiness disappeared. In the medium to long finish remains a round, pleasant rum. Overall a good rum, but for me (typical Riise) way too sweet.

I tried to approach the stuff without prejudice. However, the added sweetness is so present and dominant on the palate that I consider this bottling absolutely unnecessary. It has nothing to do with rum. The price charged for it is an absolute impudence for the miserable quality in any case.
