Not a complexity monster - but nevertheless exciting in its flavor spectrum. Heavy tropical fruit sweetness, light toasted wood influences, caramel and a discreet milk aroma provide sufficient variety and exemplify the diversity of TDL profiles.

First nosing instantly screams Angostura to me. Easy going Spanish style rum around cocoa / coffee / caramel notes. It’s nice enough but nothing special either.

If I were to recommend an entry-level cask strength, maybe this rum. It is round and the alcohol is wonderfully integrated, yet it brings an intense depth that you don't find in standard bottlings. On the nose, memories of Skeldon arise: chocolate, burnt caramel, and a mild nuttiness. Unfortunately, it is a bit reserved. On the palate, even darker, almost without any fruit; some sweetness, roasted chocolate and soft tannins, slightly bitter caramel and roasted nuts. If you're looking for the minty, dirty TDLs, you'll be disappointed. After the third evening in the glass, I found more pleasure in it than I thought at the first glass. A TDL from the Spanish side. Not my favorite but a nice easy sipping towards English Harbour High Congeners.

Advent calendar nr.16 😎 Delicious! My prediciton: TDL, from 2001-2003, approx. 60%. The alcohol is integrated well. Nose: Minty, Eucalyptus with a lovely note of apricot and mango. Palate: Tar, Minty, Eucalyptus, caramel, dark chocolate Finish: Dry, long and delicious

Wow! Delicious rum can still have a good price-performance ratio! .... and I almost didn’t buy it when I saw the bottle only had 50cl - but luckily I was already in the checkout process :3 On the nose, this rum immediately comes with something that totally reminds me of tequila/agave spirit and strawberry yogurt, so it had to be tasted immediately together with the 2004 Lous Pibous Armagnac and I have to say, in my subjective perception there are some parallels 😌😊 At the first sip I was like, Ok - an Angostura but meanwhile I’m already at, I need another bottle 😇😝 To be fair, I admittedly don’t have much TDL experience yet - but for the price I find the aroma density/intensity enormous - some 200€ Velier bottlings can’t hold a candle to that! The most prominent aroma here for me, as I know from Angostura, is orange - this candied orange. With a mix of fuel, some leather and some tobacco, this becomes for me a tequila note unique for rum, which already made me an Armagnac fan with the above-mentioned Armagnac. This rum really makes you want to try more TDLs! And as a side note - I rarely had a bottle where the beechwood cap was so smoothly sanded. (Positively perceived by me) I like the bottle shape, the label could maybe do more (complaining on a high level given the price-performance ratio, I would even take it bottled in a PET bottle 😂)

It improves well with time in the bottle but remains too indulgent for me. The red fruit and freshness markers are there but accompanied by a heavy sweet fattiness, very pastry-like.

Very delicate aroma of dried fruit and vanilla. In the background a bit of herbs/flowers and caramel. Taste-wise not very exciting either. A load of vanilla, quite a lot of tannins. Red berries please. The finish continues in a similar spirit. Nice rum, but nothing surprising.

Tar, dirty notes, but then a caramel light sweetness, something metallic and dark chocolate I also have now. On the last sip, orange notes appeared, slightly bitter. Maybe give the rum some time in the glass.

My first TDL in 2018. Back then it really got me and sparked my love for the distillery. 6 years and many TDLs later, it still can please but is rather on the easy-drinking side. The mint is there but plays in the background and more on the palate. Otherwise lots of caramel and buttery. An easy sipper with over 60%. Definitely top value for money.

Blind tasting: a light Spanish nose with caramel, vanilla, tobacco and some smoke – not quite spectacular. Unspectacular continues on the palate: here comes a pleasant sweetness, leather and oak with about 55%. The sweetness is a bit too much for my taste, so I could imagine that either some sugar is involved or the rum was finished in a sweet cask. The finish is short to medium length and rather unremarkable. Not a bad Spaniard, but also not a particularly good rum – more a rum for BBQ with friends ;-). The smoke from the nose I know from Panama rums and I have already made similar notes for the S.B.S Panama 2006. A cross tasting shows similarities in the nose but big differences on the palate, so it can’t be the same rum. Nevertheless, it could come from the same batch – possibly with a finish. 73 points
