CDI T.D.L Trinidad 2016
The menthol is what catches you first — a cool, fresh, eucalyptus lift you don't expect from a Trinidad rum. Under it sit grapes, dried apricot, pink pepper and light oak, with a "candy like nose" one taster noted. At 43% it's soft and very easy to sip. Several members like it a lot but wish it had more punch — a couple call it a touch thin and over-reduced.

7,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is fresh and fruity with red and yellow fruits like graps, apricots, peaches, tropical with passion fruit, as a wood is roasted with caramel.A molasses brings floral and minty notes. On aeration, the rum is spicy with red pepper and nutty, there is some chocolate, the molasses is earthy, we could find menthol and citrus. 7,5:On the palate, the attack is light with dried fruits like apricots, raisins, citrus, spicy and roasted wood with notes like pepper, vanilla, creamy caramel, cream toffee, brown sugar, as the molasses is floral, fresh. After resting the rum, it becomes metallic, perhaps a bit sulphurous, there are faint industrial notes with tar, rubber, also menthol. Tannins and meaty notes arise with next wave of our tasting. 7,6:The finish is medium long, dry with spicy and roasted wood notes, a bit tannic, dried apricots, yellow fruits, faint industrial notes like rubber, tar, as the molasses is minty, floral..

Surprising drinking strength single cask here from CDI. Surprisingly expressive for only 8y and also very drinkable and accessible thanks to the 43%. Dried apricot, sulphurized raisins, grape, honey and eucalyptus, as well as oak wood and pink pepper come together very pleasantly here. Medium-long finish. Not a revelation but tasty and a nice introduction to TDL that doesn't overwhelm.

Compagnie des Indes is a great success. On the nose: wood and freshness On the palate: spices, pepper and grapes are added, with a long finish. A fine tasting.

15/03/25: tasted @ Brussels Rhum Festival. I always like it when you get a fresh, minty nose from a TDL. Too bad it's only 43%. It makes it an easy sipper, but higher ABV might have improved the score.

Etwas dünn, geht irgendwie in Richtung Marillenbrand.
