Best sipped neat and given a little time in the glass — this is a soft, gentle Guadeloupe agricole from Karukera, distilled in 2009 from cane juice and aged seven years. Grass, sugarcane, vanilla and a nice dark-chocolate-and-oak thread run through it, with honey sweetness up front. Several tasters found it a touch thin at 45%, and the finish turns short and slightly bitter.

Oh man, luckily got the right rum :) Nice Agricole, lots of Agricole and wood on the nose. On the palate of course also very Agricole-heavy, otherwise tastes like dark chocolate and vanilla :)

It’s a nice, smooth, subtle and complex Agricole from nose via palate to the medium long finish. The nose have recognizable aromas of spices, vanilla, oak and fruits. At the palate and during the medium long finish the aromas comes back as flavors.

Quick a good rum, but lacks at the finish. Alcohol is intergrated very well. RumX Advent calendar, 13.12.2021, blind. First impression on the nose tells me something with red wine, possibly a finish? Otherwise hay, candied orange peel and fruit bread, among other things. Smells quite sweet. Also sweet on the palate at first, but then suddenly turns dry. Unfortunately a little thin. I would guess that this is a rum made from sugar cane juice, approx. 45%. The late palate and finish are surprisingly floral with notes of violets. Good, but unfortunately too thin, otherwise even more exciting.

A nice Karukera, a nose of vanilla, wood, and spices. On the palate, you find a sweet herbal side on an oak background. Too bad the finish isn't longer and more complex. Second tasting: still that vanilla, wood nose... however, this time on the palate, I find a bit more barrel taste and a rum where the alcohol is moderately integrated... it's good nonetheless!

RumXmas #13, blind: Warm honey like sweetness, sugar cane and wood in the nose, grassy notes and dry (grappa) agricole in the mouth with a little bit of heath. The alcohol is integrated very well and a bitter finish. Going with agricole, maybe Saint James 🤷♂️ Pretty satisfied with my guess 🥳

08.12.2018 Had a wonderful meet up with old and new friends at this wonderful hotel. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: wood, Agricole, orange, sugarcane, light chocolate. Palate: oily, wood, Agricole, balanced, spicy, fruits, orange. Finish: medium to long, wood, medium dry, fruity.

RumX Advent calendar, 13.12., blind. First impression: clearly Agricole, unfortunately a bit thin, under 46%. Nose: slightly fruity with a red wine note. Reminds me of a wild herb meadow, fresh yet somewhat musty. I find candied orange peel and fruit bread and a slight syrupy sweetness. There's still some spice, like baking spices. At the back, a bit vinegary and soapy. Palate: clearly diluted, which is a pity. Initially sweet with candied orange peel. Then comes young wood or sap from freshly cut branches. At the back, floral and lightly perfumed. Clearly violet, grass, and hay. On the finish, soapy, violet pastilles, and grass. With higher ABV, it would certainly be more interesting, as the rum already has body. As often, I really don't like the dilution in Agricoles! Guadeloupe can do so much more!!!!

Disappointing expression from Karukera. The nose is super subtle, making you suspect something quite soft and gentle. However, the alcohol is not well integrated and leaves you with a two-tiered experience as your palate fights out the burn from the flavors. Honey and caramel with an inappropriate bitter aftertaste are the most discernible flavors. Reminiscent of a more bitter version of the Bärenjäger liqueur actually, which is not necessarily a compliment. The finish is short and watery, like a Venezuelan.

I‘m getting intense cherry notes with this one. A little low on ABV, doesn’t feel too much watered down however. Quite nice.

Nose: grassy yet sweet on the nose (I get light vanilla and just a touch of caramel/burnt sugar). I also nose a light fruit note (might be peaches?), balanced out by some wood that give an extra pungency to the rum. Palate: on the first sip, I feel the herbal/ sugarcane notes better, with the sweet sensation more like honey that caramel. There might be also some spices in the mix. Finish: that honey/wood combination is the main leftover, but I agree that there’s a slightly bitter note in the end.

The nose is subtle, not immediately obvious. It requires concentration! There's woodiness and delicate vanilla. But above all, a fruitier aspect: orange, apple-pear from the Cognac cask. On the palate, there's a certain sweetness: honey-caramel. The fruit of the nose: pear-mango. Spices (pepper-cinnamon). The finish is too short, with a strange bitter woody taste. In conclusion, a pleasant, smooth and subtle agricole. Unfortunately, like the old Longueteau tasted previously, the finish is not optimal for such a rum.

Very pleasant nose that reminds me of a Jamaican... A funky side with marzipan and flambéed banana. After long aeration more oxidative, you can smell a bit of a sherry or PX cask. On the palate it is quite fine, straight and dry, you find the markers of the nose but it is less round and heavy than the Jamaican spirit yet the markers remain. In the end, there remains the bitter almond, a finish on amaretto and then a little salty touch.

RumX Advent calendar 13.12.21: Nose nice and complex. At first thought it was a TDL. On the palate immediately Agricole. Overall torn back and forth. A very relaxed drop but in the end there is still a lot of wood lingering on the palate.

A cup of black tea in the garden where cherries have fallen into the grass and emit a scent that doesn't yet remind of Agricole. That comes only in the taste where honey and licorice join in.
