Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection (Wu Dram Clan) 2009

Sip this one neat and give it air — reviewers say it opens up over days and water doesn't do it favors. Expect sour cherry and blackcurrant over roasted oak, cinnamon, black tea and burnt sugar, with a dark, slightly "dreckig" (dirty) edge. A few tasters got Trinidad or old brandy vibes rather than typical St. Lucia. The 58.3% is well tucked in.

Very herbaceous St. Lucia. Green notes, wood, spicy. The alcohol is well integrated with sufficient ageing time. The rum has a lot of vanilla notes from the cask, which I personally don't like at all together with the herbal notes. I like the nose better than the taste. Not a bad rum per se. For me personally, however, it is miles away from the Secret Treasure St. Lucias.

Edit: After the first people could taste the new stuff, I'll add my tasting notes and rating. Didn't want to spoil. But as it turns out, I'm not the only one excited about this release. After a quick sip while sampling: Makes you want more, leans more towards the Kirsch, GotA & RumX releases, that's my first impression. Alcohol well integrated and quite drinkable.

Chairmans Reserve is one of my favorites in the rum world. Today a little wild tasting between 4 representatives. 1st UK Rum Club 2011, 9yr An average Chairmans on my tongue, which is basically already very good. Red fruits, citrus fruit, burnt sugar, spices and wood set the tone here. The alcohol is well integrated. 84 pts. 2. cigar store, 2010, 11yr Astringent on the palate and with a special musty wood-fruit note. Very tasty and also unusual. The finish is medium long with burnt sugar and fruit. 86 pts. 3. royal mile, 2011, 9yr Very smooth creamy on the palate, with more herbs than its peers. Dirty notes. 86 pts. 4th WuDramClan, 2009, 14yr Somehow a mixture of all the representatives of the tasting. Initially weak on the palate, then increasingly astringent and very dry, with lots of fruit, becoming increasingly herbal and woody with time. Very interesting, complex Chairmans. 87 pts.

This is a successful bottling... on the nose a subtle sweetness of apricots and cherries. Joined by cinnamon, spice and roasted nuts. That's a very good start. This continues on the palate. Some wood and burnt sugar come in. Softly it spreads and the ABV is well integrated. The finish is again dominated by fruity notes. An excellent sipper.

On the nose for me less burnt aromas (which I like :) ) than I know from other bottlings. On the palate then as usual intense with tobacco, caramel, some licorice, spices, wood, slightly burnt, roasted and even floral hints. Admittedly, I'm not the biggest SLD/Chairman fan, but this one definitely belongs to my favorites. Very good!

8,7:On the nose, roasted wood notes, sweet, creamy with cream toffee, chocolate, roasted nuts, spicy with cinnamon, ginger, rubber, fruits like blackcurrant, strawberry, cherry, overripe, perhaps berries, meaty tones, burnt notes, perhaps with frankincense, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, brandy hints exist, hints of tannins, the molasses is herbaceous, dark with black tea, dirty, smoky hints join, pastry, biscuits, also citrus fruits and banana. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is intense, quite dry, so slightly imbalanced, with roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, leather, spicy with allspice, vanilla, at the same time also a bit salty, fruity with red fruits like cherry, then citrus, dried fruits and banana, as the molasses is herbaceous, dark with black tea, floral and a bit musty.Hints of menthol come out, when the rum is well oxidized. 8,5:The finish is more in order, long, dry&tannic, slightly furry, as toasted oak, creamy, spicy, smoky, salty, pairs minty, grassy, earthy(tobacco) molasses and less fruity aspect with apricots, cherries. Edit:17.4.26, oxidation helps, an upgrade 0,1

Among the many high-class Chairman's bottlings (above all the RdL and TheNectar), the WDC does quite well. Red fruits, vanilla, gingerbread spice on the nose. On the palate vanilla, toasted, spicy, black tea. A good fit for the Christmas season

Appealing, balanced profile that combines balance and complexity at a high level. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, which sets the stage for the very harmonious mix of vanilla, elegant spices, red fruits, and cooling tea notes. Very good release.

Wow! Absolutely intense aromatic surprise I didn't expect! 😍🇱🇨 Almost reminds me more of an old really good brandy than St. Lucia rum. Sour cherry with bitter orange, baked apricots with pecans, mint and black tea, caramelized muscovado sugar, cinnamon and vanilla, nougat and pleasant tannins and roasted aromas and an almost eternal finish. Extremely delicious, dangerously easy to drink, balanced and highly complex! 🚀🇱🇨😍 The 5cl were destroyed immediately!🤭🤤😆

Delicious rum, but for me it falls short of the UK Rum Club tasted at the same time, which is also 100% Vendome. For me, the UK is clearly fruitier and more fermented and somehow tastes better to me spontaneously.

Relatively new experience for me (you could also say I'm "unbiased"..lol) and so I stumbled a bit with the one straight from the freshly opened bottle. It wasn't mine at first. Now a few days later in the tasting the complete opposite. It's freilch heavy style, but quite easy to drink. Was a "splitter" in the lineup...but I like that, because Tastbuds are very individual. Cheers

In the nose a nice woody scent and then cherry. Not very full-bodied on the palate, predominantly wood. But then a fine sweetness with cherry. The finish is short at first but then very long. Makes me think of my childhood at the outdoor pool with Capri-Sun cherry. Doesn't sound good somehow, but the taste here is very fine with mega integrated alcohol. Could perhaps take it to the outdoor pool in summer, maybe with a straw :-)!

After the first tasting under adverse conditions in the form of a stubborn cold, a new attempt today. And lo and behold, the nose opens up - I would have been surprised too 😅 Very broad aroma spectrum. Nice, only the cinnamon note goes a little too far for me. On the palate, the barrel influence is quite noticeable but in a positive sense, it seems as if the corners have been polished but by no means ironed smooth. Nice dryness in the lingering finish. All in all, another really strong Chairmans - you can't go wrong with it. Great bottling.

On the nose a nice woody scent with herbs and fruit. On the palate not a very broad body, mostly wood. But then a fine sweetness with cherry. The finish seems short at first but then stretches out a lot. Taste here very fine with well-integrated alcohol.

Wow, WDC pulled something out of the hat here. Cherry and blackcurrant dominate the fruit side. The roasted wood and spices form a perfectly balanced counterpart. Complemented by leather and tea, the rum becomes a real knockout!

Franconian Tasting Gang - 23.11.2024: Tasted together with the Chairman's UK Rum Club. Compared to the UK Rum Club, the WDC shows more notes of red fruits, such as cherries or currants. Significantly more acidity on the palate and in the finish. Both very tasty, Vielleser UK RC a touch ahead.

29.7.2025 – Tasting after a long time :) We’re starting off with a real bomb from St. Lucia. Nose: Wonderfully balanced. I can find absolutely everything here: tea, spices, wood, fruit… Taste: Cinnamon, dark fruits, burnt sugar, tea, intense, barrel. Finish: Medium-long, warm, spicy.

Great Chairman's. Super complex. Dark and heavy. There's a lot to discover here. I'd be interested to know which barrels the rum was aged in. I get a lot of flavors here, from single malt to brandy to fruit brandy. I was totally convinced.

🥃 Chairman’s Reserve 2009 – Wu Dram Clan: Distilled in 100% Vendôme Pot Still and aged 14 years in Jack Daniel’s barrels on the island, this Saint Lucia surprises with an atypical profile, marked by olive notes that depart from the usual style. A nice discovery nonetheless!

On the nose dark fruits, raisin, a bit of menthol and spicy wood notes. On the palate round and well structured with spices, light smokiness, some tobacco and a gentle sweetness. Feels mature and balanced without becoming heavy. A bottling with character that shows well how great St. Lucia rum can be.

It has been proven that no bad rum can be distilled on the Vendôme still. So this one is also really good. Compared to other bottlings, it is very much on the dark and dirty side, with black tea, tar, spices and some red fruits. For me, it lacks a little of the fruitiness and pointedness of the aromas that characterize the best barrels.

A bold nose, a bold palate - but still somewhat different. In the glass, the rum entices with a herbal, fruity nose that almost draws me to Trinidad rather than St. Lucia, although the two countries often overlap. The nose really makes you want more! Unfortunately, the palate is a little sobering for me: very woody and bitter, little of the herbal and fruity nose, which comes across quite harmoniously. Surprising for a rum that has "only" been in the barrel for 14 years. For me, there are better Chairman's here, even though I usually find the WDC bottlings very good!

Oh, I didn't expect that, it's really dirty! It actually reminds me of a Guyana Jamaica hybrid. Super fruity, a little smoky, beautifully dirty and elegant at the same time. Long fun in the back. Luckily I was able to secure 2 bottles. One has already suffered a bit, I have to admit.

My first Saint Lucia, must say really tasty the little one, great note of wild cherry in the nose, a slight hint of wood and herbs. In the mouth it continues with the fruity cherry and after a short but strong finish, the cherry and the slightly woody note linger for a long time
