Chairman‘s Reserve Chairman's Reserve Master‘s Selection (Wu Dram Clan) 2009
Best sipped neat with a little air time — straight from the bottle it can come across hot and bitter, but a few days open and it opens right up. Sour cherry and blackcurrant lead, backed by roasted oak, cinnamon, black tea and burnt sugar. Dark, spicy and a touch "dreckig," with the 58.3% well buried. Several tasters say it drinks more like an old brandy than a St. Lucia rum.
- Sour cherry
- Well-hidden alcohol
- Long finish

Aggregated from 50 community reviews.
Dark, spicy cask-strength cherry-and-oak St. Lucia Most find it complex and dangerously drinkable, with cherry, spice and roasted wood over a dark, dirty base. A few feel the palate turns too woody-bitter and want more fruit and focus.

Wow! Absolutely fierce aromatic surprise that I would not have expected! 😍🇱🇨 Almost more reminiscent of a really good old brandy than St. Lucia rum. Sour cherry with bitter orange, baked apricots with pecans, mint and black tea, caramelized muscovado sugar, cinnamon and vanilla, nougat and pleasant tannins and roasted aromas and an almost eternal finish. Extremely tasty, dangerously drinkable, balanced and highly complex! 🚀🇱🇨😍 The 5cl were destroyed immediately!🤭🤤😆

Oh, I didn't expect that, it's really dirty! It actually reminds me of a Guyana Jamaica hybrid. Super fruity, a little smoky, beautifully dirty and elegant at the same time. Long fun in the back. Luckily I was able to secure 2 bottles. One has already suffered a bit, I have to admit.

After the first tasting under adverse conditions in the form of a stubborn cold, a new attempt today. And lo and behold, the nose opens up - I would have been surprised too 😅 Very broad aroma spectrum. Nice, only the cinnamon note goes a little too far for me. On the palate, the barrel influence is quite noticeable but in a positive sense, it seems as if the corners have been polished but by no means ironed smooth. Nice dryness in the lingering finish. All in all, another really strong Chairmans - you can't go wrong with it. Great bottling.

I would never have guessed a Chairman, but rather something like Trinidad. Absolutely surprising! Nice spiciness, even a bit dirty and with edges. Absolute wow. I'll probably have to get a bottle given the PLV

It has been proven that no bad rum can be distilled on the Vendôme still. So this one is also really good. Compared to other bottlings, it is very much on the dark and dirty side, with black tea, tar, spices and some red fruits. For me, it lacks a little of the fruitiness and pointedness of the aromas that characterize the best barrels.

Edit: now that the first people have had a chance to taste the new stuff, I'll add my tasting notes and my rating. I didn't want to spoil anything. But as it turns out, I'm not the only one who is enthusiastic about this bottling. After a brief sip while sampling: Makes you want more, goes more in the direction of the Kirsch, GotA&RumX bottlings so my first impression. Alcohol well integrated and quite drinkable.

Chairmans Reserve is one of my favorites in the rum world. Today a little wild tasting between 4 representatives. 1st UK Rum Club 2011, 9yr An average Chairmans on my tongue, which is basically already very good. Red fruits, citrus fruit, burnt sugar, spices and wood set the tone here. The alcohol is well integrated. 84 pts. 2. cigar store, 2010, 11yr Astringent on the palate and with a special musty wood-fruit note. Very tasty and also unusual. The finish is medium long with burnt sugar and fruit. 86 pts. 3. royal mile, 2011, 9yr Very smooth creamy on the palate, with more herbs than its peers. Dirty notes. 86 pts. 4th WuDramClan, 2009, 14yr Somehow a mixture of all the representatives of the tasting. Initially weak on the palate, then increasingly astringent and very dry, with lots of fruit, becoming increasingly herbal and woody with time. Very interesting, complex Chairmans. 87 pts.

On the nose, less charred aromas for me (I like that :) ) than I know from other bottlings. On the palate, the usual intensity with tobacco, caramel, some licorice, spices, wood, slightly charred, toasty and even floral hints. Admittedly, I'm not the biggest SLD/Chairman fan, but this is definitely one of my favorites. Very good!

Great Chairman's. Super complex. Dark and heavy. There's a lot to discover here. I'd be interested to know which barrels the rum was aged in. I get a lot of flavors here, from single malt to brandy to fruit brandy. I was totally convinced.

My first Saint Lucia, must say really tasty the little one, great note of wild cherry in the nose, a slight hint of wood and herbs. In the mouth it continues with the fruity cherry and after a short but strong finish, the cherry and the slightly woody note linger for a long time
Review by Nils123
Interesting cherry aromas. Very long finish. The alcohol is very well integrated, but water does not go down so well.

This is a successful bottling... a subtle sweetness of apricots and cherries on the nose. This is joined by cinnamon, spice and roasted nuts. This is a very good start. This continues on the palate. Some wood and burnt sugar are added. It is smoothly distributed and the ABV is well integrated. The finish is again dominated by fruity notes. An excellent sipper

Among the many high-class Chairman's bottlings (above all the RdL and TheNectar), the WDC does quite well. Red fruits, vanilla, gingerbread spice on the nose. On the palate vanilla, toasted, spicy, black tea. A good fit for the Christmas season
Review by Chrischi78
In the nose a nice woody scent and then cherry. Not very full-bodied on the palate, predominantly wood. But then a fine sweetness with cherry. The finish is short at first but then very long. Makes me think of my childhood at the outdoor pool with Capri-Sun cherry. Doesn't sound good somehow, but the taste here is very fine with mega integrated alcohol. Could perhaps take it to the outdoor pool in summer, maybe with a straw :-)!

Franconian Tasting Gang - 23.11.2024: Tasted together with the Chairman's UK Rum Club. Compared to the UK Rum Club, the WDC shows more notes of red fruits, such as cherries or currants. Significantly more acidity on the palate and in the finish. Both very tasty, Vielleser UK RC a touch ahead.

Very good Lucia! The finish is a little too bitter for me. I like the Royal Mile, for example, much better, although it's even older.

Cherry and wood.

Delicious rum, but for me it falls short of the UK Rum Club tasted at the same time, which is also 100% Vendome. For me, the UK is clearly fruitier and more fermented and somehow tastes better to me spontaneously.
Review by Jan Lu
A very nice bottling. Fruity on the nose, very spicy on the palate and a subtle taste of burnt sugar. The finish is not too short, tobacco and mint predominate. Everything goes well together. A clear recommendation.

A bold nose, a bold palate - but still somewhat different. In the glass, the rum entices with a herbal, fruity nose that almost draws me to Trinidad rather than St. Lucia, although the two countries often overlap. The nose really makes you want more! Unfortunately, the palate is a little sobering for me: very woody and bitter, little of the herbal and fruity nose, which comes across quite harmoniously. Surprising for a rum that has "only" been in the barrel for 14 years. For me, there are better Chairman's here, even though I usually find the WDC bottlings very good!
