"One of the few typical Caronis I actually like," as one member put it — tar, dark chocolate and leather with a creamy, oily texture that several tasters keep coming back to. The dirty, metallic side is here but stays balanced, not all rust. Fruit takes a back seat. A couple of reviewers wish it hit harder; a few extra degrees would push it.

one of the few typical caronis that I actually like, metallic, spicy, heavy and dirty. not as exaggerated only after rust and metal as other today's bottlings but really still nicely balanced and oily.

14.08.2015 A nice evening out with friends from Copenhagen and Malmö. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Intense, wood, light smoke, caramel, light tar, orange, rubber. Palate Oily, wood, tannins, light mint, faint smoke, dried fruit, tar, rubber, faint caramel. Finish Very long, wood, tannins, roasted, raisin, citrus, light tar and rubber.

A Caroni with a full but discreet profile on the nose, rather greedy and turned towards tar, oak, leather and menthol before red fruits and citrus fruits appear. The typical Caroni taste is repeated on the palate, but much sweeter and chocolatier. The whole is oily and round, but lacks the aroma and power of other Caroni. The finish is moderately long, falling short of expectations in terms of taste. Aromas of leather, licorice and menthol mingle with spicy, caramelized, tobacco and chocolate notes, but the whole struggles to stay on the palate and convince. A subtle Caroni that needs a few more degrees to be more expressive.

A balanced nose with cedar wood, tropical fruits, mechanical workshop and a quite pleasant pastry sweetness. A clear note of dark chocolate. On the palate also a balance between the different flavors, a balance that is recurrent in Caroni 1996, like a trademark. The finish is tasty, long, the notes of pastries and dark chocolate are well present.

Nicely balanced. Chocolate, creamy cappuccino, Leder and a pleasant level of dirt. Not very heavy on the fruity side. This is an excellent „sipping Caroni“ - very nice texture.

9,1:On the nose, tar, perhaps leather, roasted wood notes with caramel, roasted nuts, dark chocolate or cocoa, spicy with allspice, oily, delicious, round, fresh, citrus, yellow fruits and mango, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, even more bourbon barrel is felt, the molasses is a bit flowery, vanilla, baking spices join, some coffee hints, medicinal notes and rubber. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is industrial with tar, rubber, slightly dirty, fruity with yellow and citrus fruits, grapes and mango, the molasses is dark with black tea, hints of licorice, as the wood is roasted with nuts, butterscotch, dark chocolate, spicy and on well oxidation, the fruits are candied, the sugar burnt, caramelized. 8,8:The finish is long, dry, slightly tannic, furry, with notes of palate lingering on, slightly minty..

Very tasty. Oily was often mentioned and fits excellently. Due to the rather restrained fruit, it comes with little dirtiness, but that is then also completely sufficient to have an effect. Very nice mouthfeel.

10-07-2026 - Rate 9.1 Enjoying a summer evening with my mate Anders. Second last rum of the evening and we are back at Trinidad. Had it blind. But got the Caroni flavor instantly. A bit to subtle profile. Perhaps due to the low ABV. Would have liked more power.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at its peak a rum that was added in a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. The distillery ended production and closed in 2000. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums 'you need to try before you die.' I recommend it, Caroni is truly a unique rum.

As with the full proof version, the nose is nicely complex between round and typical Caroni notes. However, the dilution seems to emphasize its woody and spicy side which makes it less balanced. On the palate, it turns out to be very elegant but we lose the funkyness of the FP version. At the end, a very good rum for Caroni beginners but nothing compared with the 63° release. A conclusion rather similar to the side-to-side tasting between 34th and 35th releases.

The Caroni couldn't convince me 100%. It's very typical, on the metallic side, clearly iodine. Relatively short finish and a bit low alcohol, which makes it lose some strength. All in all still a solid Caroni.
