8,7:On the nose, sugarcane, fresh, flowery, minty, herbaceous, earthy with tobacco, dark with black tea, roasted wood notes, slightly burnt, with coffee, chocolate, nuts, leather, red wine barrel impact, dried fruits like figs, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the cane is mineral, sweet with honey, red fruits and prunes, raisins arise, caramel, fruitcake, vanilla and nougat. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is sweet with sugarcane honey, flowery, mineral, vegetal, fresh, herbaceous, dark with black tea, later grassy with hay, with hints of peat, earthy, fruity with dried fruits like apricots, currants, raisins, red fruits and grapes, the wood is roasted with caramel, cocoa, mocha, spicy with allspice. 8,7:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with notes from palate lingering on, slightly metallic. Schön mal so ein altes Teil im Glas gehabt zu haben, aber leider ist mir der Rotwein Geschmack ein wenig zu dominant, bei dieser Abfüllung. Leider leider muss ich sagen, dass er mir gar nicht so gut geschmeckt hat. Mir war er ehrlich gesagt zu säuerlich.

Very nice bottling. The very long maturation clearly shows on the nose as well as on the palate. The bottling delivers lots of complexity, dominated by red fruits and wood. Despite the long time in the cask this is very well balanced with wood not taking over. Despite the low ABV, intensity on the nose and palate is very nice. This one give a lot to uncover with enough time in the glas.

This guy has a proud 45 years on his back, or rather in the barrel, and you can really tell from the nose. Very complex with dried fruits, red fruits (more on the sour side, fruit bread), caramel, barrel, and a subtle herbal-fresh note in the background. On the palate, similar—herbal, fresh, caramel, mocha. Truly exceptional!

The younger rums from Engenhos do Norte didn't convince me as much, but this one, 12 years older than you - brings something heavy with it. Lots of red wine, red fruit, dried fruit, caramel and wood. Many subtle influences such as allspice make this rum very complex.

Fruity ripe nose with grapes, red fruits allspice nuts and red wine some brown burnt sugar and dark chocolate. Heavy sweetness in the mouth very viscous... Clearly more floral and complex on the palate. Great stuff.

👃🏼 = Dès le nez c'est un joli concentré de boisé, de café, de pruneau, de caramel et d'orange. 👄 = La texture est ample, suave avec une fraîcheur poivrée, légèrement vineuse, terminant sur une jolie longueur avec du pain d'épices. On a là un très vieux rhum généreux et goûteux 👍

So far, rums from Engenhos do Norte have not blown me away. But this is an exceptionally old example that stands out. Lots of wood and roasted aromas, red fruit, all round and harmonious. The hallmarks of an agricole are also evident. In the mouth then very clearly Agricole, with a very thick, oily feeling prevailing after a heavy sweetness and dark barrel notes. Very pleasant aromas on the finish, which are familiar from Madeira casks and remind me of old casks of other spirits.

Der wohl älteste Madeira Rum bis dato! Die Nase ist unfassbar einladend intensiv, fruchtig und ölig schwer. Getrocknete Feige, Früchtebrot und Rotwein. Am Gaumen dann etwas bitterer als erwartet mit viel Tanninen, allerdings nach 45 Jahren im Fass auch kein Wunder. Insgesamt nicht so fruchtig wie erhofft, eher etwas erdig und kräuterig, dafür im Abgang dann überreife Banane, gesüßter Mokka und Rosinen. Der Alkohol ist perfekt integriert. Wenn er etwas weniger bitter "verbrannt" wäre und die Tannine nicht ganz so dominant wären, wäre meine Punktzahl höher. Danke an Nico für die Möglichkeit! :)

Great rum! Color, nose, palate, everything just fits. If I didn't know better, I would have blindly guessed it was an old Guyana rum. The alcohol is nicely integrated and seems to be a lot more % than it is. Many thanks to Tobi for the sample!

Schwerer Zigarrenrum. An Agricole erinnert hier nichts mehr. Eher an trockene Spanier. Braucht viel Zeit. Sehr trocken und breit.

45 Jahre aud Madeira gereift. Klar ist Holz präsent, aber nicht im Übermaß. Karamell, Rosinen und etwas Leder. Unendlich komplex und nach 44 Jahren mit 48,2%Vol. Absolut genial. Einer der besten Agricole, die ich je im Glas hatte. Diese Farbe! Ich war vor Ort und habe ihn direkt mitgebracht.
