Savanna Unshared Cask for Belgium 2015
One taster called it his "favorit Savanna in Calvados cask," and the theme is apple all the way through — fresh, caramelized, apple pie — with cinnamon spice, light esters and gentle oak. The Calvados finish is well woven in, and most agree the 62% hides beautifully. It needs air to open; rush it and it drinks hot and closed.

👃 Elegant but sufficiently intense, on a combination of fruits (apple, cinnamon apple, starfruit) and controlled woodiness. Vegetal freshness on crushed mint. Light esters. A slight varnish brought by the wood. It's also gourmand on soft caramel, fresh vanilla pod, cinnamon. 😋 Equally fruity on all aspects of apple (candied apple, candy apple, caramelized apple, tart apple). The Calvados cask is mastered. The palate is molasses-rich as desired and contains (sparingly) some aspects of the Great Aromas "Harlequin candies." Lively spices almost like Espelette pepper. Again these soft esters that structure the finish. ⛳ The palate ends on a nice dark chocolate 60-70% with traces of sweet citrus. The esters are found until the empty glass which releases a slight vinegary and briny veil. % - The alcohol is perfectly integrated, I would never have guessed the 62%. 5-7% less. This is one of the strengths of this UC. 💡 A very nice surprise this traditional. Fruity but also slightly esterified, extreme drinkability, without lacking complexity, one of the UCs that stands out from the others over the last two years. N.B.: neck and neck with the Wild Island Vague, also aged in Calvados (and Cognac) cask. Both are between 86 and 87 for me. They each have their personality but also some similarities.

A rum that feels and spreads warmth throughout the body. Stays in the palate for a long time, in a pleasant way. I mostly feel woodiness mixed with spice, but there is some fruitiness.

Day 12 of the Rum Friendly Club advent calendar. A puzzling, mysterious nose with sour apple in a damp cellar, a distilled apple side and old damp wood. The palate is full, soft, alcoholic, with still apple but fresher. The Calvados side is (too?) obvious in the finish. Otherwise a very beautiful finish, long, elegant and smooth. All aromas are present and more harmonious than on the palate or nose.

Tasting on 20.07.2026 RX 22325 Savanna Belgium. Gift from Mr. Kevin Sørensen Nose: First impression wet cardboard. After some time in the glass, lightly bittersweet fruit, lightly spiced notes from the Calvados cask. Complex nose, a bit medicinal and light flowers. Palate: Wow, delicious “tingling” finely balanced fruit like pear and apple and especially ripe mirabelle. Spicy pepper, bitter grape seeds. Aftertaste with sweet licorice and spicy cask influence, pleasant peppery profile. Vegetal, a bit grassy and citrus, faint mint note. Glass: Light lime, light bitter cask influence. Tasting: “In the bed”

A relatively calm nose for this Savanna. I easily detect wood at first. A nice freshness. Then notes of Calvados, maybe some glue. On the palate, it's immediately warm and spicy. Notes first woody and dried gradually give way to more sweetness and fruity notes. Time brings complexity to this rum. Finish more cocoa and coffee. Still burning. I thought while tasting that it wasn't the best Savanna I'd tried. But the more time I give it, the more pleasant it seems. Edit: impression confirmed, a bottle that needs time to breathe to open up and gain delicacy.

#4908 25.10.2024 relaxing at home with this yummy but ugly fish 😊 Nose Fresh, faint wood, medium intense, light ester, vegetal, light apple, faint mint, light citrus, spice. Palate Round, balanced, faint ester, light wood, light spicy, warm, fruity, light pineapple, sweet, spice, light vegetal, light dry, faint apple. Finish Medium long, balanced, round, sweet, light wood, light vegetal, light citrus. The empty glass has a nice fruityness to it as well as a light sour note.

Tasted at Spirits Days in Tournai, quick notes: Nose: ester, fresh, apple, little mint Palate: apple, spices, balanced, a bit of pineapple In short: one of the best at the fair! super balanced and pleasant, less dry than some other unshared. Maybe my favorite so far (haven't tasted 20 either...)

Beautiful nose, very harmonious with caramel and a little TicTac Wintergreen. A great balance of these two aromas on the palate too. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is not very long. Nevertheless, a really nice bottling.

Northern Lights Meeting 2025: Very fresh on the nose, esters, citrus fruits, the smell reminds me of Calvados. In the mouth very pleasant but also apple, nice spiciness with good sweetness. Medium-long finish, fruity and spicy.

One of the few Unshared Cask I enjoyed at Savanna. The nose is quite medicinal, but you mainly feel the aging in calvados cask with caramelized red apple. The spices are well present too but the wood is very discreet. There is a very floral and fresh aspect in this nose with aeration. The palate is still on this apple but develops towards a more cognac-oriented side. The alcohol is well integrated and the whole is quite rich and complex. Lots of fruitiness, always this camphor. A quite round and indulgent rum. The finish is long and on licorice.

Agricole meeting and tasting with Kevin in Blåvand, Denmark Light ester notes on the nose, plus barrel influences and unmistakable agricole notes of vegetal aromas and bitter parts. On the palate, more fruity components and again esters, pineapple and apple with slight minty hints. Very successful bottling that integrates the Calvados finish very pleasantly!

Another Savanna that I really liked, maybe a bit more on the nose than on the palate. In my opinion, the alcohol is a bit too present, but it doesn’t spoil the tasting at all. I should probably let it breathe a bit more instead of rushing to my glass. Calvados/apple notes are present both on the nose and palate. A good rum 😛

Superb tasting. An excellent rum. On the nose, you can smell the wood and the calvados barrel. It's closer to a typical French spirit. On the palate, superb, the 62° goes down well with a note of apple. Very long finish. If you get the chance to taste it, don't hesitate!

My favorite Savanna in Calvados cask. Fruity, Apple Pie, Vanilla and Milk Chocolate.

Very beautiful bottle, on the nose lots of calvados, on the palate pineapple, wood, apple, spices, chili.

Doesn't really stand out, but otherwise very drinkable.
Review by Ayc
Very pretty rum, probably the best of this unshared series. Hard to say blind that it's a Calvados finish but it brings a very nice acidity that supports the concept. Perfect integration. Complex, so much that it's hard to identify particular aromas but white and yellow flesh fruit. Pear not necessarily ripe, mirabelle plum baked, lots of spice, a bit of camphor. Very good

Vintage 2015. With 8.5 out of 10, it belongs to the better ones I've had in my glass.

Almost insignificant on the nose, much better on the palate, quite complex, difficult, there are white-fleshed fruits, even burnt mirabelle, lots of spices/wood, honestly a nice little bottle. Integration mega successful.
