Tasting of four rums from the nineteenth century. Lots of sweetness on the nose, soft caramel. A dark side with wood and a slight tar, a fruity side with fresh pineapple, pineapple fruit paste and anise. The palate is full, warm, spicy (anise, Christmas spices) with still quite a bit of caramel. An incredible taste of a Havana cigar develops with the fermented vegetal side and cedar wood. The finish is long, strongly influenced by caramel but then develops caramelized pineapple and cedar wood notes. A beautiful rum, a witness of another time. Perfectly preserved, maybe a bit too caramelized.

Probably the oldest rum I'll ever have in my glass, so thanks to Wolfgang Klotz for the chance! The color already makes a statement ;) On the nose candied fruits, vanilla and chocolate. Especially sweet on the nose. In the mouth a very minty (menthol) note, almost like a mouthwash. The sweetness runs through. Alcohol very mild, you notice less than 40%. Finish lingers long. The age would deserve a better rating but the rum is what it is. Definitely drinkable, also pleasant but more than good, no. Thanks again, it was a blast!

8,2:On the nose, the first impression we get is brown, sweet with dark chocolate, candied and dried fruits like raisins, prunes and flowery with lavender, as a wood is roasted and nutty, this is an elegant rum indeed. On aeration, spices are in the game with vanilla and cinnamon, metallic notes, as we notice herbal, cola touch, molasses is evident, so is a toffee. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is mild, brown and sweet with roasted wood notes as chocolate, caramel, dried fruits and an orange peel.After a minute or two, notes are syrupy, turning direction towards caramelized, candied fruits, herbaceous and flowery molasses, as we might think of a brandy touch.We also notice metallic notes, strong wood spice.Otherwise, as a resume, this is a pleasant sipper, a real nightcap. 7,6:The finish is quite long, with strong wood spice, a bit sharp, metallic, notes from before continue the ride with us, a coffee is joining the game. Rated emotionally with upper tendency....well drinking rum from 1827 is a special occasion...
