Most tasters land around "very good but not the wildest Hampden." The nose is the star: overripe banana and pineapple, fresh honeycomb, marzipan and a savory olive-brine twist. So at the request of NH43 my 1001 tasting. A bit difficult after the Caroni I had before. I think a second tasting must follow in any case. I hope I'm right with the smell and taste markers and it's not just my imagination. For me, it's another great bottling that came out of the cask neither too late nor too early. A nicely rounded piece with well-integrated alcohol. The rating may change a little on a second tasting.

9:On the nose, the first impression we get is an estery, balanced rum with overripe tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, as a wood is roasted, spicy with burnt sugar, vanilla and a molasses is vegetal with an olive, a bit briny. On aeration, citrus arises, the molasses brings hay and floral notes, there is a pleasant confectionery with honeycomb. 9:On the palate, the attack brings esters, as tropical fruits like pineapple, banana are overripe, the molasses begets some olive, the wood is roasted, with pastry, spicy, creamy with vanilla.Shortly, delicious.After resting, molasses brings floral notes, perfume, there are sour notes, citrus and brine. 8,8:The finish is long, dry and quite tannic, still tasty, notes from palate linger on, with earthy, smoky touch. Yep, a successful bottling. The nose is still restrained. Nevertheless, there are scents reminiscent of Savanna: vegetables, brine, olive, and tropical fruits. On the palate, on one hand Jamaica, on the other something floral, perfumed. Fits me very well and stands out in the profile compared to the many Hampden bottlings. Softer compared to Rum Nation due to longer aging.

Ester, tropical fruits and wood are in the foreground here from start to finish. I find the notes of olive very exciting. The 26 years have really done the rum good, so the alcohol is classily integrated! Retasting: I stick to my rating, even if today I find it a bit sharp-edged. Compared to other rums with similarly high alcohol content still great!

Full of expectations, I approached this rum... Nose Somewhat reserved 😲😲 that was the first impression. Tropical fruits, some marzipan, light green floral notes (I think some associate that with olive). Fruit test relatively restrained and not the funk I expected and hoped for. (It gets better and rounder over time) Palate Slightly creamy in the mouth... Full load of fruit but also a clear influence of wood, but not disturbing at least at first... with lingering in the mouth it unfortunately quickly becomes quite dry, bitter and somewhat woody. Finish is quite long, dry and bitter. Alcohol on nose and mouth well integrated. Direct comparison "Beast1" and "Beast2" Beast 2 not so beastly anymore but considerably rounder, more balanced and for me the winner.

Excellent Hampden! Despite 26 years of aging, not at all woody. On the nose fresh honeycomb, marzipan and baked banana and typical Hampden fruit funk. On the palate very buttery, balanced and tasty. Roasted nuts, banana bread and chocolate cookies with white chocolate, as well as milk chocolate. Plus olive brine and overripe pineapple, as well as toasted oak wood with pleasant but intense tannins. Top stuff! Also crazy how well the alcohol is integrated at 66.66% 😈🤘🏼

The Beast II aged for a long 26 years. The nose is captivating, very fruity and with a nice vanilla/honey sweetness. Super pleasant! First class. On the palate, however, it loses me a bit. The fruity variety of aromas has almost completely disappeared. Here, the spicy woody aromas with some sweetness predominate, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The finish is medium-long and convinces with vanilla, wood and cookie dough. Overall a great bottling that in my opinion has passed its zenith.

I was a bit scared because of the long storage time. But it's a great rum. But for me it doesn't come close to The Beast I.

In cross-tasting with other 98er/92er HDs, the nose here doesn't really convince me. For me, too much fermented, rancid, medicinal. Overall quite okay, but somehow seems unbalanced. Also on the palate, it doesn't really grab me and the alcohol is not very well integrated.

#6962 25.06.2026 My son is on the way to visit his mom in China and my training is done for today. Time for some samples before my wife gets home from work. Very nice rum with a good price tag at release. Medium intense profile with nice fruits, glue, leather, polish, roasted wood, tannins and chocolate.

Today the two TRC beasts in the glass. Both very tasty and very similar in aroma profile. Lots of esters, tropical fruits, astringent, glue,... Beast I is a bit sharper and basically wilder. Beast II is oilier and creamier on the palate, the fruits come more to the fore, the rum is more complex. For that the finish is a bit shorter. I prefer the second Beast.

Unfortunately, I lack the direct comparison with the predecessor, but when I read my notes, it sounds very similar to what I now smell in the Beast II: fermented fruits, citrus marmalade, baked goods (croissant, brioche), but also a slightly chemical note. On the palate toasted barrel, marzipan, and acidity, which is not too brutal.

And here we have the next intense Jamaica funk. Luckily, it goes next to Guyana. Lots of esters, but of course also tropical fruits like banana and pineapple and funkiness this rum has to offer. Really crazy stuff.

Tasted quickly at the sample swap at Zabo. Fruity, spicy, overripe ... but also a little sour, olive and bitter. Continental is not really my cup of tea, but you can drink it. Thanks Jörg!

Nose: very funky and estery, pineapple and mango, little alcoholic sharpness, could be Hampden or New Yarmouth, slight citrus note, slight vegetal note like wet hay, not super intense like some other representatives of the mentioned distilleries Palate: very fruity, a real fruit salad, alcohol about 50-55% and very well integrated, I recognize Hampden but there is more: e.g. watermelon, possibly a blend? Towards the aftertaste the clearly Hampden typical dryness, green olives and brine, young wood, bitterness (orange peel) I think here I have a young Hampden <>H or C<>H in the glass, possibly 2013 or 2014. Seems a bit unbalanced to me, therefore "only" 8.6

Today, in the best weather, finally The Beast Part 2 from The Rum Cask in the glass... uh, glass! And what can I say... even after some time, the rum only ignites moderately for me. From my perspective, this is an average Hampden that basically does nothing wrong but remains just one of many and doesn't stand out or leave a big impression. The sour note stays negative, the marketing stays positive.

So Beast II is noticeably more pleasant on the nose. Beautiful ester scents, of fermented yellow fruits, with a hint of salt. Taste not too sweet and wonderfully fruity and a bit of bean honeycomb. Finish top and alcohol well integrated.

The rum is initially quite restrained on the nose but develops over time. Initially, of course, full Hampden power with pineapple, banana and floral influences, funk and esters are at the forefront. Over time a salty olive note comes through, becoming more noticeable the longer it sits. On the palate first strong esters, oily creaminess and distinct wood influence – as expected from a 26yo. On the finish green elements reminiscent of olives again. Along with a slight sweetness that with the wood acts like honey, slightly buttery. Much later marzipan-like notes appear again. The impression solidifies that the empty glass starts to smell like marzipan cookies after about 3 hours. For ester lovers a mega bottling!

A very nice old Hampden with a clear profile that stays true in the glass. A wonderful nose with lots of fruit, herbs and spice. The funk is there but the glue note is only subtle. On the palate, clearly more barrel influence with olive and a mineral influence that becomes more pronounced towards the finish. Here it is very dry and astringent. But it doesn't last as long as it initially seems. The finish could be longer. Otherwise a great complex Hampden, but maybe almost a bit too tame.
