So I have to say really exciting and wacky. Orange, tangerine and yellow fruits at the beginning. The taste is slightly sweet and a bit of bitter orange peel is added. The finish is nice, slightly woody and pleasant.

Trade fair review 14th GRF 2025 I was warned. And no, unfortunately really failed. Neither fish nor fowl. A shame, because you could have definitely done more with the probably good base product from Grays (which you can't taste at all), e.g. through longer aging. Or for such experiments you should have taken another rum from Mauritius, e.g. a Labourdonnais (traditionally better suited for such spiced stories). Oh, and is this really a Grays rum based on molasses, so a New Grove? The subtitle "Rhum VSOP" and also my palate doubt that. So if this is supposed to be a Rhum Arrangé, then I'd say, quite okay.

Lots of yellow fruit, tangerine, orange, peach, with a strong apricot finish. Somewhere there are light herbs, a little wood and caramel. The rum also has something of a tart tatin and isotonic drink powder. Alcohol integration and the somewhat short finish dampen the impression.

#5619 31.08.2025 Tasting at the German Rum Fest 2025. This one is definitely orangy in the profile, a bit too much I think. Easy drinkable though with light wood, floral, herbs and fruity notes. On the palate and finish their is a perfume note that wasn't really me.

Si je l avais dégusté à l aveugle, pas sûr que j aurais pensé à du rhum. La présence de I orange me fait un peu penser au grand Marnier.C' est loin d être mauvais, mais le Gray's ne se démarque absolument pas.

An exciting experiment from this Grays Mauritius Rum in an orange liqueur cask. The orange note is intense and reminds of English bitter orange marmalade, but without being sweet, and some melted dark chocolate with orange zest.. Slightly herbal and spicy woody in the finish. The alcohol could be better integrated, but all in all a successful finish with a cool story, though the finish dominates the rum quite a bit. As a Mauritius rum: so-so. As a liquid interpretation of the French dessert where candied oranges are coated with chocolate: top!

Le rhum Vagabond spirit, Maurice VSOP porte bien le nom de "very special orange product". Dès le nez, on est clairement sur de l'orange que quelques notes boisées et épicées viennent agrémenter. En bouche, là encore l'orange domine avec des notes boisées, chaudes et sucrées. La finale, longue est dans la même lignée.

This is shockingly specific in a good way. It feels like a rum Grand Marnier, it's sweet, tons of oranges, tangerine, dried apricots. I think the rum targets people who are just looking for something nice and new, and it does that very well.

Nose and mouth are dominated by the orange, it's a pretty straightforward rum. Can I have guessed it comes from Mauritius ? Hell no. It's still very fresh and pleasant to drink. If you like Pyrat XO and wish to upgrade it with a non ultra sugary rum, that's the perfect candidate.

30 minutes of aeration, It's surprisingly similar to the alcohol found in grandfather's bar, but it's a nice surprise, I tasted a few drops of Cointreau at the same time, and it's very close, but with a more gourmand touch, and the touch of rum that you find in the texture and on the finish, perhaps that gourmand caramel note, I have the impression that Nicolas wanted to revitalize an old orange spirit with a touch of rum, and if that's the case, he's succeeded.

Vagabond is a French brand dedicated not only to rum. Among their rums are mostly blends, but they are characterized by rather unusual to controversial approaches – blending rum with other types of alcohol, triple aging, experimenting with aging at sea, under the sea surface, in caves, aging in unusual barrels (after beer, after white Jurançon wine, from acacia, cherry, maple wood, etc.). They have very nice bottle graphics. Very solid Maurice.

Unfortunately, this Vagabond bottling is not quite my thing. It was a nice attempt with this orange finish. For me, it's way too overloaded. The rum no longer really comes through and is pushed aside.
