Give it half an hour in the glass first — several tasters found it opens up completely after some air. It smells like a mechanic's workshop: rubber, tar, oil and dirt, with vanilla and smoke underneath. The palate is softer than the nose suggests, with tar, spice, cedar and a little tropical fruit, ending on a woody licorice finish. A gentler Caroni than most.

A quite violent nose with spiciness/chili at first, then fruits, mechanical workshop, wood and roasted notes. The palate is surprisingly soft, almost watery at first. Less fruit than on the nose. Then molasses, cedar wood, tar and rubber and fruits. The aromas are marked but the whole is rather soft. The finish is superb with licorice, bitterness bringing even more complexity. A deep woodiness with mechanical workshop in the empty glass. An HTR 1997 with controlled power. Very good!

The poured glass from my freshly opened bottle smelled as if I just stepped into a workshop where someone fooled around with rubber, plastic, oil and dirt. Delicious! The rum settled down a little after 30 minutes in the glass to reveal the classic Caroni taste profile. I loved the woody licorice finish.

Great nose with the typical Caroni aromas. The palate lacks dirtiness and tar. More on the fruity-sweet side. Medium-long finish that highlights the beautiful aromas once again. Good PLV

The nose starts with a beautiful basket of gourmet fruits and butter caramel. After a while, this gourmandise gives way to the true face of Caroni with rubber and shoe polish. On the palate, no doubt, we are indeed in Trinidad with this dirty and gourmand side at once, the fruits are much more discreet than on the nose. A delicious Caroni

Focused on smoky, spicy meat! It reminds me of the "tasting gang." Very good but maybe lacks a bit of depth. Still very good in any case. After 45 minutes of airing, the depth appears 👌. The flavors mingle very nicely and the result far surpasses the first sip. Definitely, airing is really very important for this type of rum.

In my opinion a good entry into the world of Caronis. Not quite as pronounced workshop notes. Somewhat fruity and slightly bitter. The finish is pleasantly warm.

Nose: tar, malt and smoky aromas, reminiscent of whisky. Palate: alcohol dominates the beginning then recedes in favor of rubber, tar and spicy notes. Light fruit aromas can also be perceived before the smoky aromas gain more and more. The full-bodied appearance leaves a proper coating in the mouth. Finish: the smoky and charred notes last for minutes, occasionally complemented by cola. Conclusion: typical Caroni aromas are omnipresent, although the intensity clearly lags behind other Caronis.

Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad that, during its heyday, produced rum which was added in a ratio of 1:10 to naval blends. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. The distillery stopped production and closed in 2000. It wasn't until 2010 that tasters appeared who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is truly a unique rum.
