New Yarmouth Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 49 2020
Cookie dough, marzipan and glue lead here, with pineapple and banana behind — classic New Yarmouth ester funk pushed by a virgin oak cask that adds young wood, spice and a bit of grippy tannin. At 62.6% it drinks hot and wild neat; most tasters found it tames beautifully in a Mai Tai. Reads dry and intense, older than its four years.

Wild, funky New Yarmouth, great in a Mai Tai Loved for its funky ester-and-marzipan New Yarmouth character and surprising virgin-oak maturity. The recurring catch: young, wild and noticeably alcoholic neat, so many reach for the Mai Tai.

26.07.2025 Retasting and I still like it a lot. -------------- #5086 Saturday 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Dark to very dark in colour. Nose Wood, ester, fruity, overripe, light polish, banana, light pineapple, spice. Palate Wood, medium dry, warm, ester, fruity, overripe, banana, light citrus, faint chocolate, faint floral. Finish Long and warm, fruity, wood, banana, light glue, light citrus. Empty glass Light sour, wood, vanilla, light chocolate, light pineapple.

Basically delicious New Yarmouth with lots of tropical fermented fruit, cookie dough and plenty of funk and glue. For me, however, the virgin oak is definitely a little too dominant and adds too much tannin and a certain sharpness and acidity that I find rather annoying. However, I can really imagine it in a Mai tai.

Toller Rum!

Once again RC delivered solidly! Chapeau! A great rum where the Virgin Oak cask shows what it can do! Very good for mixing in cocktails (Mai Tai 😎🤪). Clearly also enjoyable neat, but not an easy sipper 😉😬

Young wild New Yarmouth... My expectations weren't really all that high, so I'm all the more surprised. Glue, tropical fruits, lots of marzipan and yet also a portion of woodiness. A little too alcoholic on its own, but that's probably due to its young age. In May Tai a real stunner, very fruity and biscuity, super tasty.
Review by Adrian Wahl
For this price, it's awesome! Ages much older and more mature than the four years. I'm not the biggest Virgin Oak fan, but this was great.
Review by Lukas Jäger
Exciting! New Yarmouth is a bit of a mystery and single casks are always exciting. Here we have a young wild one, tamed with a Virgin Oak cask. I first expected an ester bomb like the 2009 releases and although there are plenty of esters, this rum has a somewhat different profile. Less cookie dough (though recognizable), more dark, spicy, and woody. The virgin cask worked hard without overwhelming the rum with wood and bitter notes. I could definitely imagine that 2020 in a few years (and in more classic casks) could produce strong releases. Currently definitely a good and also interestingly priced bottling, which I could also imagine well in a Mai Tai.

A still quite young NY, with a good %. But NY is basically exactly my thing. Nose: intense but pleasant esters with the typical profile - orange and lime as well as banana and gooseberry plus polish with marzipan. Added sweetness of candied fruits. Delicious. 8.2 Palate: dominant esters and initially salty-bitter, almost towards iodine. Then pineapple-marzipan with banana and lemon peel. Also has a tart note of young wood. Slightly bacon-like at the back. Seems a bit too young and tart for me. 7.8

8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get are esters and glue, perhaps polish, then fruits come in with tropical pineapple, banana and roasted wood notes like chocolate and caramel. On aeration, the fruits are also yellow bourbon, mango and a hint of coconut. The wood gives us spices and pastry, perhaps a hint of cookie dough. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is funky, estery with glue, maybe varnish and tropical fruits like mango, banana, yellow fruits and bergamot, a bit alcoholic. The wood is roasted with pastry, marzipan, perhaps cookie dough, spicy with vanilla, baking spices, a bit salty.Fruits become candied after resting and dried with apricots, raisins, a molasses herbaceous. There is also a hint of coconut. 8,4:The finish is long, dry with roasted wood notes, tropical, yellow fruits and spicy..

After the Chalong Bay just now, this New Yarmouth is a real blessing. Typical Jamaica profile, we have tropical fruits here, especially banana and pineapple, as well as lots of esters. Really a good and tasty rum.
Review by Andi
Wow, super cool rum, what can I say, from the nose to the palate very good, super fruity, tropical fruits, young wood that fits in well, the alcohol is well integrated.
Review by DosenZorn
Absolute grenade. Full power NY. Cookie dough, fruit, marzipan. Initially had concerns about the 4 years in the Virgin Oak. But these were dispelled immediately. Perfectly matured. Probably couldn't have been bottled at a better time. A real bullet and an absolute no-brainer for the price.
Review by Johnny Rumcask
Ester meets wood meets wood meets ester: if that's what you're looking for, this one delivers fully. The rum is fun, but you don't have to look for nuances here. It can't deny its young age. Ester and wood. Alcohol clearly present.
Review by Michael Schillheim

Super awesome rum, what can I say, from the nose to the palate very good, super fruity, tropical fruits, young wood that fits in well, the alcohol is well integrated. On the finish there is an alcoholic sharpness, at first after opening the bottle I didn't notice it, now after 3 weeks I do. Maybe it's just me. Very tasty and for 4 years it tastes very mature. Unbeatable for the price, unfortunately sold out.

Big surprise for only 4y old in Virgin Oak Cask. Very fruity, spicy, marzipan and perfect alcohol integration. If all Virgin Oak Casks could works like this one.....
Review by Christoph
Almost complex for such a young high ester rum. A wonderful taste experience for HD fans.
Review by Boletus
Due to its youth, this NY is very lively in the mouth with tropical fruits, esters, and glue. This sometimes stormy intensity is complemented by a good dose of wood spice from the fresh oak barrel, which also releases some harsher tannins. Not easy to drink but a lot of fun if you want to really hit your taste buds.
Review by lars
My expectation was high. It wasn't fully met, but for the young age still a clear recommendation. A bit too alcoholic, but otherwise a nice mix of ester, some fruit and a nice cookie/marzipan blend. I like it.
Review by TheRhumhoe

A bomb in a Mai Tai. Young and wild, something's happening on the palate.
Review by Mirco
Powerful, young New Yarmouth with typical ester profile. On the nose fermented tropical fruits, some solvent and a hint of vanilla. On the palate intense and fruity with pineapple, banana and a light woody tone, accompanied by a fresh herbal note. The alcohol is clearly noticeable but not disturbing. The finish is long, warm and slightly sweetish. An exciting, wild Jamaican with lots of energy, lacking a bit of maturity for rounding off.
Review by Carlitooo
Wood meets ester, intense rum and intense fresh wood -> the result is surprisingly awesome and soft for the high alcohol content and tastes noticeably older and riper on the palate than it actually is with its 4 years. All this at a top price-performance ratio.
Review by Rumpalumpa
The virgin oak barrel makes it riper than 4 years would suggest and brings nice aromas of vanilla, oats, and amaretto into play. Also on the palate a nice combo of some funk and barrel spice. Slightly alcoholic aftertaste.
Review by Mentalo
Lots of cookie dough, spices, slightly fruity, esters. You can notice the influence of the Virgin Oak cask. Unfortunately still a bit too alcoholic. But I still think the 2020 vintage definitely has potential.
Review by Agricoler
Schöner High Ester New Yarmouth.
Review by F.L.O.
Review by GuybrushThreepwood
Nice balance between the esters and the cask influence. The Virgin Oak cask managed to tame both the esters and the alcohol a bit and make them accessible. Still a very powerful bottling. Nice marzipan sweetness. So far the best bottling from a Virgin Oak cask I've had in the glass. Great stuff!
Review by JFehr
This one is really fun. Great fruity and nicely mature.
Review by DeMaddin

05/12/24 : I recently purchased the warehouse #1 new Yarmouth, and it's a real Esther bomb, I found the flavour profile intense and complexe so I thought having thsi in new oak can be interesting. Well... I'm not so sure. The oak tempered the beast for sure but it is still really intense and the finish is long long long. I'll come back to it later maybe time will add more complexity to it.
