8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get is a barrel mark with roasted wood notes like nuts, caramel, dark chocolate and spicy vanilla, dirty industrial notes like tar and fruits like orange, some dried. On aeration, rubber and menthol arise, vegetal, herbaceous molasses, maggi, leather and cocoa, then cherry and berries as balancing act. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is herbaceous at first, industrial with tar and rubber, dirty, as the wood is roasted and creamy with caramel, dark chocolate, nuts and spicy with vanilla.Dried fruits are modest, when the rum is oxidized, berries, banana and citrus join the play, some floral touch and menthol. 8,6:The finish is long, dry and tannic, dirty with industrial notes, creamy with roasted side, as the fruits abate...

Another 97 Caroni that doesn't really convince me. In my opinion, there are better ones from that vintage, although it has a nice dirty profile, it seems too unbalanced and very alcoholic.

#6687 24.04.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after my bike training, preparing for a nice online meeting/tasting with a few of the guys. Listening to some Ben Gold, Axiver and Maarten de Jong on Spotify. Pretty decent Caroni in my mind. The profile has the traditional Caroni rubber and tar, but in a light version. The longer it rests the more flavours will appear.

RX22620: very superficial Caroni. Interesting to understand what many mean when they talk about "dirty" aromas. Unfortunately lacks intensity and complexity. 82 points. RX 7871: here too you can get a good impression of a 1998 Caroni. A bit fruitier, lighter, less dirty but also little complex. 82 points. RX21085: Oh yes baby, this is already a somewhat better caliber, though not outstanding. Crazy dark color, nicely dirty and fruity in the finish. Delicious! 88 points.

Notes from the cask with some sweet vanilla and lots of wood on the nose. There is some Caroni dirt but also a note of rotten vegetables, which is rather unique. On the palate it can’t quite compete with the top of the 97 vintage. Lots of wood, vanilla and spices are dominating. While those are good ingredients, the profile feels a bit too alcoholic and lacks complexity for a higher rating. Still overall enjoyable, just not quite top notch.

On to the second Caroni of the day. On the nose: It has some familiar notes like tar, but quite woody and alcoholic. Spices. Vanilla. Taste: Quite tar and alcoholic upfront. Then the rum opens up to a creamy mouthfeel with darker flavours like cocoa, coffee notes. Finish: Quite dry finish. Woody, roasted and leather notes. From my experience this rum doesn't offer the typical notes associated with Caroni rums. It should be more complex,more balanced and finish could be better to receive better score, but i liked it and its not a bad rum at all

The nose is more Guyanese and alcoholic. The taste is initially dominated by herbs, which quickly combine with a clear caramel note (probably from the cask). Unfortunately, the beloved tar notes only emerge in the finish, where they linger discreetly but for a long time. In my opinion, the rum should have been bottled earlier.
