Finally a new release from English Harbour! Very nice that the distillery itself releases it at a very fair price. Great rum with many harmonious and rounded notes. Chocolate, caramel, and fruits. Spicy, woody, toasty, brown sugar on the palate, so lots of cask influence. A few years longer in the barrel than the predecessor, but the rums are quite similar.

Just like the first, the second High Congeners doesn't inspire me. Although it's already the off-beat rum from Antigua, it's still so light that I'm mainly bored by it. The best things are the sticky notes on the nose and the wild grapefruit note on the finish. In between there is a lot of coconut, caramel, milk chocolate and yet a lot of fruit. In the mouth, there is a rather strong ginger spiciness. It's not a bad rum by any means, but it doesn't have enough to keep me occupied for long. I would like to try it in an Oid Cuban, it certainly has potential there.

High Congener the 2nd and I find it very successful. A beautiful nose with coconut, banana, vanilla and caramel aromas. On the palate, the spectrum then becomes darker and spicier with vanilla and caramel notes still present. The finish is even more powerful and spicy. Top in view of the PLV

Solid rum at a really good price. Coconut, creamy and spicy with some chocolate, banana, caramel and a little orange peel. Well integrated alcohol. A mix between Foursquare and Belize.

The new bottling of english harbour's high congener series has simply been stored longer in the cask compared to the first bottling and that was a good thing. The alcohol is clearly better integrated and the whole thing seems rounder. I'm not entirely a fan of this profile as the similarity to Barbados/Belize seems quite strong. However, for the price of 70€ you can't go wrong here. Nothing for beginners, but anyone who has done a bit of research into rum will be happy here.

8,4:On the nose, roasted wood notes, brown, with caramel, roasted nuts, spicy vanilla, nail polish, coconut and citrus fruits, barrel impact is obvious, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, fruits are fermented, tropical and yellow, some dried, molasses is grassy, fresh with tea, roastedness brings sweetness with dark chocolate, some coffee hints join. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is sweet with roasted wood notes, brown, like caramel, brown sugar, pastry, dark chocolate, spicy with vanilla and allspice, slightly salty, resinous, fruity with coconut, dried apricots and raisins, black currant, there is some medicinal touch. 8,3:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with roasted oak notes, slightly charred, smoky, spicy, fruity marmelade like with dried, citrus fruits and coconut, sugarcane hints, as the molasses is earthy. Die erste Abfüllung der Antigua English Harbour Congener fand ich schon sehr gut! Diese hier ist einige Jahre älter, im Preis kaum teurer und ebenfalls gut verfügbar. Am Gaumen mundfüllend und dick, Kokosnuss, Vanille und Milchschokolade, dazu kandierte Früchte und Karamell. Der Alkohol ist gut integriert. Wieder ein super Rum vom English Harbour.

Intense on the nose with coconuts, vanilla, some tropical fruits and spices. Seems like the bourbon cask did quite some work here. Same profile on the palate. Some milk chocolate on top and a bit spikey. Just as the first edition, I like this one as well. Feels like a mix of Foursquare and Travellers at a very good price point.

I liked the first bottling of the High Congener. I'm still a little undecided about the second one. Coconut, spices, wood on the nose, but unfortunately also light, pungent notes like in a chemistry lab. These become weaker over time, but unfortunately do not disappear completely. On the palate there is also mango, leather, milk chocolate and a pleasant sweetness. I don't share the opinion that the alcohol is well integrated. Even after an hour, I still find the English Harbour cutting and burning. Good rum for the price. If the alcohol had been better integrated, it would have been over 8.0. But I will test it more extensively in comparison with the 1st release.

#6789 14.05.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after my walk and visiting an old friend. Watching a program about Korea and their culture in music, movies etc. A good rum with a nice price tag to tag along. An intense profile with carame, chocolate, fruits, roasted wood, coffee and some leather.

Very tasty Antigua. Overall, coconut and chocolate dominate, as well as vanilla and nice cask notes that slightly drift into bitterness. In my opinion, it can't quite keep up with good Foursquare or Belize bottlings.

As with its predecessor, you get a lot for your money here. The column profile with vanilla, oak, caramel, coconut, milk chocolate, some banana, spiciness and minimal coffee and dark chocolate. The whole thing is slightly medicinal. Not a high-end column but unbeatably good for the money and refreshingly affordable. You can easily stock up here.

Right away on the nose the typical English Harbour profile, but very thick. And then again the realization that there are still a few gems that don’t have to cost well over 100 euros. A thick complex body with diverse aromas. By the way, it handles well if it can get some air before you enjoy this fine liquid!

Die Nase lässt mit viel Würze, Röstnoten und Früchten einen Rum nach spanischen Stil vermuten. Am Gaumen sehr intensiv und unverändert aber das modrige ist weg. Der Nachklang ist mittellang, trocken und bringt ebenfalls keine Überraschung. Das könnte ein einfacher Foursquare mit ca. 60% Alkohol sein. Gefällt mir in Summe ganz gut, mir fehlt aber eindeutig Komplexität und Fruchtigkeit.

I am positively surprised by the PVL. Really good and pleasant sipper with nice notes of coconut chocolate and red fruits. Alcohol is very well integrated and the finish is warming and makes you want more.

On a par with the predecessor high congener which was 2y younger. Alcohol integration is really good, milk chocolate, lots of roasted coconut chips, banana, orange peel and very subtle salt come together aromatically. Good but not a complexity monster. The price-performance ratio is really top!

Very pleasantly light and round. It goes down almost too well. Smells nicely of brown caramel and coconut. The taste reflects the same. I like it when the smell keeps its promise. The finish is long and mild.

This English Harbour packs a punch. The intense nose offers exotic, fruity notes ranging from coconut slice and banana to coffee and chocolate. On the palate, there's a powerful start, and I immediately think of a Barbados Rockley style. Then the typical distillery character comes through, accompanied by great spice, caramel, coconut, coffee, chocolate, and leather. The 62% gives it the right intensity. The medium-length finish offers vanilla alongside the already mentioned aromas, expanded by a slightly roasted, peppery note. I can only recommend this Antigua rum. Nase: Kokosnuss, Holz, Vanille, Karamell. Zudem etwas Frucht (wobei ich das nicht genauer spezifizieren kann) und Schokolade. Geschmack: wie die Nase. Alkohol nicht optimal eingebunden. Insgesamt ganz gut aber irgendwie auch etwas langweilig und flach. Deutliche Ähnlichkeiten zu Foursquare/Barbados vorhanden - das gefällt mir leider nicht so gut. Bräuchte ich nicht nochmal.

The 2nd release of the High Congener series from English Harbour also knows how to please. Pleasantly sweet, lovely caramel and brown sugar aromas. A little sharp-edged on the palate, pleasantly woody and slightly peppery on the finish. Once again a great PLV.

Relativ ähnlich zum vorherigen. Leicht süße Nase, Vanille, Karamell und Michschokolade, aber auch etwas Kokosnuss haben wir hier. Am Gaumen auch eine leichte Süße, neben Karamell, Vanille und dunkler Schokolade auch wieder etwas Kokosnuss.

Have had a couple of this rum at my shelf for quite a long time and bought me one more on my way down to Spain which is now opened. It’s a limited bottling for Germany that’s aged in former bourbon barrels. Overall a full-bodied and intense rum which won’t disappoint anyone that likes English Harbour. The nose is round, complex, fruity, roasted, spicy and woody with aromas of coconut, chocolate, vanilla, apple, cinnamon, cloves, licorice, black pepper and raisins. At the palate it’s spicy, round, sweet, fruity, roasted, woody, complex, full-bodied and intense with flavors of caramel, coconut, plum, raisins, vanilla, chocolate, tobacco and leather. The finish is rather long, spicy, roasted and woody with flavors of caramel, coconut, chocolate, tobacco and leather.

Pleasant to drink, not particularly complex, pleasing with coconut notes, maple and caramel from the wood. The sweetness allows a pleasant interplay with the woody notes and the quite perceptible alcoholic note (the latter may be too much for beginners, it may be suitable diluted with water). PLV is very good.

After I already liked the first one, I was not disappointed by the second either. In a blind tasting, I would probably have guessed a Foursquare from Barbados. My conclusion: for the price asked, a good bottling.

This rum was introduced me by Rum Depot staff and i liked it so much that bought it right away. On the nose: Mainly coconut and caramel with little bit of banana and vanilla. Woody notes. Good level of intensity. Taste: Caramel, coconut and vanilla at first. Woody and peppery notes come with the abv intensity. Spices and dark chocolate notes. Finish: Chocolate,coconut caramel. Woody,roasted coffee and pepper notes. On a sweeter side, but the palate is more richer than I remember tasting at the Rum Depot store. I like it alot

Parallelverkostung der beiden Destillerieabfüllungen. Der 2023er ist an der Nase weniger fruchtig, die Milchschokolade wandelt sich hier schon in dunkle Schokolade. Dafür ist der Gaumen nicht mehr ganz so ruppig, er wurde cremiger und runder, der Alkohol hat sich besser integriert. Auch hier wieder sehr dunkel, holzig würzig mit eine leichten Prise Salz. Schöne Abfüllungen von English Habour.

Mir schmeckt ziemlich gut. Er erinnert etwas an Foursquare mit einem Touch Mount Gay. Noten von Kokos, Karamell, Vanille, Schokolade, Kirsche, Tabak und etwas Zimt. Eine deutliche Trockenheit und Adstringenz, sowie ein leichter Muff schmälern den sonst recht positiven Gesamteindruck etwas. Ich hab ihn für 55€ bekommen. Das PLV ist wirklich sehr gut

I was really looking forward to this rum. It is exactly the profile I like. Chocolate, spices, strength of alcohol which is well integrated, also sweetness. Unfortunately, I can no longer compare it with the first edition, but from memory I think this one is even better.

On the nose there is wood, something spicy, light roasted aromas and above all nuts and caramel. On the palate again caramel, nut, light roasted flavors, - and then on the finish light sweetness and hints of sweet wine or port ... no idea if there was a finish.

I was really looking forward to this. Antigua is my favourite distiller and I am pleasantly surprised. But the alcohol in the wine is not unpleasant. Dark hot chocolate and wood. The taste is sweetness similar to FQ. The woodiness and strength is also significant. Very good drinking!

The rum changes its profile a lot over time. The longer it stays in the glass - and unfortunately already in the 5 cl sample bottle - the less pleasant I found it. The nose is fresh, orange, citrus, coconut. A bit of caramel. Inviting. Over time, unfortunately, a chemical glue note dominates. Finally, even a weak, rather unpleasant meaty note. On the palate initially nicely dense, oily, sweet and soft. Caramel and coconut. Unfortunately, here too, after 30 minutes in the glass, I felt like drinking pure glue. The finish is rather short, a mix of coconut, vanilla and caramel. Overall very mixed. Fresh out of the 5 cl bottle and fresh in the glass I liked it well, nice coconut aroma, the alcohol very well integrated. But that turns negative way too quickly. In der Nase ein deutlicher Geruch nach gerösteter Kokosnuss, welchen ich eher mit Rum von Barbados in Verbindung bringe. Neben den rostigen und würzigen Noten begleitet am Anfang noch eine Gewissen Alkoholnote den Eindruck, welche mit der Zeit aber verfliegt. Es lohnt sich das warten, den anschließend kann man auch gebrannten Zucker, Vanille und Milchschokolade wahrnehmen. Der Rum hat eine intensive goldbraune Farbe und wirkt sehr ölig im Glas. Auf der Zunge ist der Rum kräftig und eher trocken mit dunklen rostigen Noten nach Eiche, Fass, Gewürzen und Schokolade. Das Mundgefühl ist wärmend. Der Abgang ist eher kurz und bleibt nur in geringer Intensität über längere Zeit erhalten. Auch hier dominieren, neben Gewürzen, wieder Eichen- und Fassnoten und damit einhergend Tannine und ein leicht adstringierendes Mundgefühl. Insgesamt ein Rum, der nicht mit einer hohen Komplexität, dafür aber mit einem klaren Aromaprofil und einer ehrlichen Machart bei mir punktet. Wem die Machart zusagt, und keinen süßen hochkomplexen Rum erwartet, wird sicherlich nicht enttäuscht werden.

Ein handwerklich gut gemachter Rum mit Ecken und Kannten, der sich vom klassischen Antigua-Stil abhebt. Das High-Congener-Profil bringt eine spannende Abwechslung ins Glas. Die fast 10 Jahre im Fass haben für eine schöne Komplexität gesorgt. Er ist ordentlich kräftig und der ABV nicht so gut eingebunden mit ein paar Tropfen Wasser wird er aber spürbar zugänglicher. Ein solider unkompliziertes Single Cask Rum.

Schön intensiver English Harbour mit schönen Kokosnussnoten. Man riecht auch Eiche, Kaffee, Milchschokolade und Aceton. Ein ordentlicher Antritt am Gaumen. Intensiv und holzig mit Kakao und Kaffee. Wenn die Massage des Alkohols nachlässt, ist es als hätte man auf einem ordentlichen Stück Süßholz herumgekaut. Sehr schön für ein ungesüßtes Destillat. Lebkuchengewürze und getrocknete Früchte sind auch dabei. Schöner langer Abgang mit Süßholz, Kokosnuss, Eiche und 70%er Schokolade. Eine Feigennote kommt auch zum Vorschein. Toller Tropfen

Vune lehke koření ovocnost jablko Procenta nejsou znát a to čumím na 62%. Není to teda tak high congerer jak jednička. Je to opravdu trochu více do kokosu a slabsi na konci. 6.9
