Leather, cigar leaf and burnt sugar lead the nose, with yellow fruit, prune and mirabelle still surprisingly alive for a rum distilled in 1929. The palate is oily, delicate and lightly dry, floral and spiced, more elegant than powerful. Even at 45% it drinks soft — several members note the finish loses a little steam, but nobody seems to mind.

#4001 Yet another piece of history. Typical Agricole with lots of fruit balanced really well with spices and caramel plus some roasted wood. The palate is oily and slightly dry which only enhances the overall profile. The empty glass is also really nice and reveals some chocolate notes.

Liquid history, delicious and drinkable. The drinking strength is not unpleasantly noticeable, a beautiful blend of fruit, sweetness, wood and spices. Only the finish runs out of steam a little. Pleasant, but not absolute top class.

Having one of the first Ballys ever distilled in your glass is a huge privilege! The distinctive mark of this distillery is evident throughout, very fruity and a beautiful dark and intense part of wood and cigar leaves integrated perfectly! The finish is not very long but really pleasant! Despite being distilled almost a century ago, it is one of the best Ballys I have tasted!

A legendary rum from Martinique that is exceptionally well preserved. The nose feels "old" in the glass, but is still very expressive, complex and aromatic. Although the nose is driven by notes of leather, tobacco and more vegetal, floral and woody notes, the fruit is still very much present, notably yellow fruit, dried fruit, mirabelle plum and plum. The attack on the palate is of rare elegance, very delicate, fruity, with beautiful woody, floral and leather notes. The spices are also very gentle. The finish is also very complex and long, with a similar profile on the palate as on the nose, proof of an authentic and fantastic rum. A special experience with a Martinique icon.

Simply amazing to be able to taste a rum distilled 95 years ago, when my grandpa was just born. Beside the emotional aspects, drink wise this is still a great rum, nose is brilliant and the palate has shown no signs of weakness. Thanks Antonio for sharing the dram!

Ok, I dont like sour and wine-style rums (most agricole). But this one - come on - perfectly integrated alcohol, sooo fruity and sweet like taste, sooo complex that it overhelmed the mild sour taste. And the nose and even tail was like from old house. Like if you open old chest in your grandma's house cellar. Wow!

A cool piece of history. Lovely fine Agricole, I wonder when I last enjoyed a 2cl like this for so long. It's confirmation again that even at low ABV it can be a full and complex r(h)um. I'm really very satisfied.

On the nose, it is finely full-bodied and fascinating with hints of wood, leather, roasting, burnt sugar, vanilla, dried fruit, coffee, chocolate, and a bit of tobacco. On the palate, it is delicate but with character and floral notes, sweet spices, pepper, wood, plums, vanilla, and hazelnuts; all very rounded with a medium-persistent finish. In the empty glass, fragrant spices and wood.
