Here's the twist: it's sold on the Caroni cask, but nearly every taster agrees you can't find the Caroni at all. What you get is a fierce 82.3% Guadeloupe agricole — sugarcane, pear, mango, pepper and green herbal notes, with citrus and mint on a long, burning finish. One French reviewer called it "une expérience, mais pas un coup de coeur." Powerful and raw.

This brut de fût is very powerful. The nose is pleasant, with lots of sweet fruit (pear, mango), pepper and herbs. The palate is lively, with present degrees. The fruit is citrus-oriented. Still peppery and grassy, polished/glazed. The palate is very long on citrus grass. On the other hand, the Caroni cask failed to express itself.

Even with solid mental preparation, you'll be clinging to your dentures! But what a pleasant surprise! An initial nose of burnt caramel, followed by more vegetal notes. It still burns your tongue badly. This is not a rum for everyone. It's an experience, but not a favorite.

#5540 09.08.2025 Relaxing with a few samples while my wife is at the gym 😊 Nose Intense, light wood, light polish, faint glue, fruits, light floral, light vegetal, herbal, faint honey. Palate Intense, warm, medium spicy, light wood, light polish, herbs, light vegetal, light citrus, light mint, Agricole, faint melon. Finish Long and warm, medium spicy, vegetal, herbs, light citrus, faint polish. Empty glass Light citrus, vegetal, light mint, faint melon. Needs to rest for a good while and the Caroni Cask is not noticeable at all, unfortunately.

Great release from Nobilis: a Guadeloupean agricole aged in ex-Caroni casks. Despite the high ABV, the alcohol is well integrated. Nose shows tropical fruit, wood, and freshness; palate is minty, herbal, woody.

No finish but a full 3 years of aging in an ex-Caroni cask. However, surprisingly, I can hardly taste or smell anything from this. The 82.3% ABV is surprisingly well integrated, but flavor-wise this Montebello is unfortunately too young for me and comes across more like a white, unaged column still spirit, leaning more towards herbal and vegetal notes rather than anything that would make you think it was aged in a Caroni cask. A nice experiment, but I expected more here. I don’t find any trace of Caroni in this one.

Very good column still cask strength from Guadeloupe by Montebello. That said, the real downside of this rum is that the Caroni cask is quite light. It's a bit of a shame.

Rich, fruity nose. Smokiness joins fruit and spice on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is long and well-balanced. The freshness of the cane is present throughout.

🔹 Nobilis Montebello 2021 BDC – Finished 3 years in Caroni cask – 82.3% A Montebello column still raw spirit finished three years in ex-Caroni. And here, to be honest: I pass. The finish takes over everything, to the point of erasing the interest of the BDC. Result: a rum too powerful, unbalanced, lacking clarity in tasting.

The color is gently golden. Understandable since it's a young agricole. The aroma slaps the nose but if you know how to work with the fact that there's a lot of alcohol, you can beautifully feel a soft aroma or how I would describe it. You can feel the typical agricole earthiness, grassy and herbal tones, but at the same time I can identify the technical character of caroni wood. A bit of coconut, a bit of vanilla and something sweet like overripe berry fruit. I also feel an "apothecary" like tincture medicine :D (I really enjoy the aroma) Taste... well, what to say, very dry, it made my eyes water a bit :D it's exactly the opposite of smoothness, you can't even talk about alcohol integration. The first small sip "numbed" my mouth :D so in the following one I could read something. It has the same expression as almost all agricoles I've drunk so far, so more or less what I described in the aroma and for some reason I feel poppy in agricole. There's no trace of caroni, maybe some hints of really old wood. The finish is very long, very spicy but when it starts to fade, the old barrel and earthy aftertaste come through again, for me a typical agricole poppy, but otherwise not much happens. What to add, definitely an experience, but I wouldn't say I enjoyed drinking it. Rather the aroma. Definitely can't be recommended to a regular rum drinker but if you have courage and a stomach, try it. It's a young agricole especially seasoned through caroni barrel, probably good. But this is probably the only rum where no one would say, higher proof would be better :D :D IS THIS EVEN LEGAL TO SELL FOR CONSUMPTION?!

Really nice, fresh and fruity, the alcohol is well integrated despite the strength. You can feel a bit of the wood that brings out the freshness and fruitiness of the rum, it's a great experience, happy to have a bottle of it.

17/10/2025: tasting @ home with Stijn and Bram. I first tasted this at the Nobilis booth at Salon du rhum in Spa, even before it was officialy released. Unfortunately, the Caroni influence is almost not noticeable for me.
