Bedford Park Hampden Single Barrel Jamaican Rum LROK 2000
Sip it neat and you get a French-oak-heavy Hampden LROK: pineapple, banana and orange peel wrapped in old wood, spice drawer and a glue-varnish edge. Softer and rounder than its 54.8% suggests. Most tasters find it deep and long-finishing, though a few say the oak sits too far forward and the ratings run hot. One reviewer even called the daiquiri "truly phenomenal."

#6517 20.03.2026 Part three of todays evening tasting with a few friends. And now were going for the great non spitting rums. Today the music is a bit different because not all like my Trance and Psy Trance, so we have settled on some EDM and hits from the 80s. Thanks you Silas for supplying the samples. The nose is medium intense, with fruits, ginger, glue and light caramel. The palate is oily with glue, pineapple, banana and spices. The finish is medium long, spicy and fruity with light roasted wood.

A very tamed hampden smothered on a strong european oak bath, nothing particularly special or worth the price. Looks like something made for “adventurous” whisky drinkers and not for jamaican rum lovers. A rare miss for long continental aged Hampden.

I am not a fan of Jamaican rums but this one is superbe. My new “favourite rum” ever. Better than older and much more expensive rums. WOW!

Since it was rated 9.6 out of 10 (before my rating) i had to test it side by side with the best Jamaican i ever had, Habitation Velier Hampden C<>H. Not even close. I miss the WOW feeling. Anyway, its a nice rum, i like the sweetnes. Vanilla, caramel, banana, pineapple.

Magnificent rum. The LROK in combination with the French oak is really a stunning combination. This mid level ester has some really good fruit notes and depth upon depth. Some smoke, some vanilla, some leather. Some pineapple, over ripe banana. It’s got a lasting finish. Moreish. Unique. Lovely. Pungent. Quite frankly a brilliant rum.

Yeah, I was suspicious of the high ratings of this rum but it is great. It is flawless, packed full of flavours, is rich, warming and buttery (in terms mouthfeel). On the nose there is a complete bouquet of fruit - pineapple, banana, orange peel, coconut, dried dates. The fruit mixes with barrel and young wood notes. The palate continues with the fruit and wood but add in spices and baked apple notes. It’s a long finish with pineapple and oak. Now to buy (another) back up bottle.

An exceptional Hampden rum. The French Oak is quite noticable and on the nose is almost too dominant with the scent of icing, but there's fruit and spice behind it. On the palate it's a different story: still lots of icing but perfectly balanced against tropical fruits and spice drawer. The finish is long and harmonious with light bit of a campfire toasted marshmallow. Smooth enough to drink neat it can also take a bit of water which will take it a bit towards a Meiji fruit drop thing. I adjusted this one up after trying it en daiquiri as it's truly phenomenal: ripe mango, pineapple, and tangerine absolutely drips out with other fruits lurking behind and just gobs of frosted custard tart as well. It's gloriously concentrated and complex with absolutely nothing else in the way. The finish is endless and smokey. As it warms, some rich vanilla and white pepper spice tone comes out. Glorious stuff.

It’s quite clear after going through the majority of this bottle that I’m going to buy another. The subtlely is unmatched and the notes are everything out of an LROK that took on the wood. The true amount of time this spent in French oak will be of interest but the finish lasts forever without being overwooded. Some overripe berries, spice, varnish, petrol, light martini olives, brine, lemon, light nougat and coffee. What a combination and complexity!

05/03/2026: Bedford Park tasting @ home. A decent, tasty LROK from Hampden but nowhere near as good as the community rating suggests. You get fruit, vanilla, oak and even some smoke on the finish. It's not a bad rum ofcourse, but the ratings are very strange to me. Not worth the price.

this is INCREDIBLE. a very complex, layered rum. tons of flavour, some amazing funk. one of my all time faves.

Bonkers good LROK. I get an almost cherry cola note in there. Love the price considering it's 23y. Miles better than the official Hampden LROK release.

It’s solid for sure however oak dominant and the high scores are just odd, new bottler pulling some strings? Anyway on the rum it’s no slouch. The nose is not a typical hampden, more restrained and oak and spice forward with a layer of tropical fruit. The mouth is off for a long aged hampden and again it feels over oakes if anything, once that subsides you get mellow pineapple and candied orange with a hint of glue as everything fades. Finish is long with menthol and umami and young fragrant wood. Not the best hampden I have had but a solid 2000 LROK

A softer nose with the French oak wafting through the spirit. Feels way below its ABV but still maintains that lighter ester LROK feel. Some raisins, caramel, minerality. The mouth is smooth and soft with a bit of an acetone on the back. This isn’t punch in the mouth Hampden but the complexity is on a level I’ve never tasted. There’s marzipan, vanilla, canned white fruit, clementines, coconut with some old wood notes. There’s a certain mouthfeel that lets this all fit together while allowing every note to stand out. The spices also come out on a second taste, which is usually something I want to see less of but work with the fruit.

Outworldly rum. Remaining simple and straightforward yet with depth. Some lemon zest and licorice, some oily notes as well as salt brine. Not as much funk, I expect that’s the French oak. Some papaya, mango, furniture polish, light bits of five spice and clove with hints of werthers original. Funk on the back palate. Delectable!

Read full review →The finish is long with notes of stewed fruits and English Breakfast Tea. It dries out a little to reveal some lovely warming oak notes (again!) and a gentle spiciness fades out beautifully. This is an excellent example of long aged Jamaican rum and it is a really lovely rum...
