For me not quite on top of the New Yarmouth 2009 vintage tbh. On the nose I find the classic profile with cookie dough and some funk. In this bottling there is a destinct sourness (fruits) which I don’t particularly like in the overall composition. On the palate there is more wood than in my more preferred bottlings, taking somewhat away of the excitement of the profile. Still very good and enjoyable stuff, just not quite the pinnacle of the vintage for me.

It's really tasty, the best of the weekend, at the end of the weekend. Great, funky Jamaican. We have lots of esters and solvents. Plus, of course, tropical fruit, especially pineapple and (fermented) banana.

Nose: Jamaican funk I think I recognize, glue, esters, sour but not like yesterday with the Hampden, but softer and muted. Palate: again Jamaica and also Hampden and again subdued. Maybe a blend or a low mark like OWH, LFCH or LROK. Alcohol around 60% or just over. Finish: here I'm back to Hampden with brine, green olives and a certain dryness. I like it very much. After some time in the glass, I'm sure it's a Hampden. OWH is ruled out, the rum is too intense for that, leaving LFCH and LROK. I'm guessing a young LROK from 2018. Resolution: ha, off the mark! At least I recognized the alcohol content well 🤪

Limited edition of a 2009 New Yarmouth. The nose is initially strikingly strong, full of solvent, varnish and esters. Only after some time (approx. 30 minutes) in the glass do tropical fruit, vanilla and some pastry aromas increasingly develop. This fits and is promising. On the palate, first esters, tropical fruit, vanilla and pastry. Then sweetness, young wood and, with increasing length, a kind of bitterness join in. This also accompanies the finish quite dominantly. This costs some points, as it is a clear off-note for me. Too bad, because the first impression promised much more

I was quite excited about this bottling. 2009 New Yarmouths are already delicious. But this one definitely didn't really pick me up. At first it's really just solvents and glue on the nose. Very alcoholic on the palate at first. The typical cookie dough notes come out faintly after a long time. Put half the bottle in the back of the cupboard and see what happens in a few weeks.

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get are a cookie dough and pastry, immediately turning to intense,funky notes with esters and varnish, later glue and tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, roasted wood notes with caramel, spicy vanilla. On aeration, the molasses is vegetal, grassy, the fruits citrusy, slightly sour and the wood spicier. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is funky with esters, varnish, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, when well aired with mango and red fruits, slightly astringent, the wood is roasted with cream toffee, marzipan, spicy, salty, as the molasses is sweet with honey, flowery and vegetal. 8,8:The finish is really balanced, delicious, dry, sweet with roasted wood notes, slightly smoky, with pastry, nuts, perhaps yeast and tons of tropical fruits, pairing vegetal molasses with olive.

Delicious New Yarmouth 2009 . Nose ... Solvent, ester, Anna's banana and some baking spice. It has something bacony in the nose 😲 Alcohol barely noticeable. Palate... Alcohol more present. Fruity funky ... Typical notes such as annas, mango banana and marzipan, butyric acid. Woodiness very low and negligible, therefore hardly any bitter notes. Not bad but nothing really new or different from all the others.

Celebrating my birthday a bit waiting for my wife to get home from work. Nose Intense, round, faint wood, faint smoke, light glue, light polish, faint floral, ester. Palate Intense, warm, light wood, fruity, light glue, light polish, ester, citrus, light cherry, faint caramel, faint smoke. Finish Long and warm, light wood, faint smoke, light cherry, citrus, light ester. Empty glass Banana, light floral, light caramel, light grass, faint smoke. Needs to rest for a while to settle properly.

One of those Jamaicans in which you get lost in boredom. Certainly solid - the typical aromas, but nothing that throws you out of your chair. Even watery at the start. Rather a weaker bottling. Next please!

Crazy mixture. The nose is dominated by solvents and varnish. After a while, fruit joins in. On the palate, you experience a taste explosion of tropical fruits such as banana, pineapple and mango. The finish is still fruity, but difficult to pinpoint. Just the right ABV for my taste, which is perfectly integrated. Conclusion: a whole bottle would have been worth it. Now I still have half a sample Update: my own bottle has arrived. A terrific rum for me

The nose is dominated by solvents, or rather lacquer. After a while, fruits come through. On the palate, a mix of tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, and mango. The finish is still fruity but hard to pinpoint. ABV could be better integrated.

Un New Yarmouth très funky. Des fruits mûrs, des solvants. Un cote métallique étonnant. La bouche est vive et épicée. In y retrouve les marqueurs du nez. Belle longueur. Du bois jeune en finale. Un jamaïcain sympa.

The nose is very closed, you can recognize the typical high ester markers, but also floral/soapy aromas, cola!? and spices. But everything is very restrained. On the palate surprisingly watery and flat. I'm a bit disappointed. In cross-tasting with some HD <>H '13 + '14 definitely in the lower range.

Hmm, interesting lacquer or dirt note in this Jamaican. Somehow the note gets more and more bitter. If it were rounder, a nice young NY. As it is, it's kind of an expensive experiment.

Ester, many fruit notes, vanilla, cookie dough and marzipan. Brings relatively much sweetness. I don't find the Swell bottling significantly worse than most of the other NY 2009 bottlings. Direct comparison unfortunately not possible.

Der Swell NY09 verkostet im Vergleich mit dem TWJ NY ebenfalls aus 09. Der Swell gibt sich an der Nase zugeknöpfter mit viel Lösungsmitteln und Muss wohl erstmal lüften, da war der TWJ gleich zugänglicher. Ganz langsam lassen sich dann auch fruchtige Aromen wahrnehmen. Geschmacklich sticht hier die Banane heraus. Schöne leichte süße etwas fordernder im Vergleich zum TWJ und nicht ganz so rund im Geschmack. Unterm Strich ist der TWJ für mich die bessere Abfüllung. Man sippz da gern dran. der Swell scheint mehr Ester zu haben die ihn letztlich weniger zugänglich und umso adstringierender machen. Wer das mehr mag ist damit natürlich besser aufgehoben.

Very similar to the NY Whisky Jury 2009. On the nose, less fruit than the competitor, more esters, glue and punch. On the palate, the same observation. Almost a little younger than the TWJ. This is the NY I love. The finish is moderately long. A very fine choice of cask, one bottle clearly won't be enough for me!

Nice New Yarmouth! On the nose some wood, fruit, some ester, vanilla and nuts. On the palate much much more nuts, almost walnut. Wood and coconut come along. Fun. Would like more of that 😉

This rum already has quite a few reviews, and it almost seems like different samples or bottles have been circulating. The ratings, even among experienced tasters, vary quite a bit. I obviously got a strong sample. Beautiful corn yellow color. On the nose, glue notes wonderfully mixed with fruity esters like ripe banana. Plus sweet pastries. Everything is rounded and incredibly tasty. On the palate, the full nose aromatics. Balanced sweetness as well. The ABV is there, but the 61.2% is well integrated for my taste. The long finish mainly shows fruity esters with a slight woody spiciness. I don’t get the stronger bitterness mentioned in other tastings at all. Maybe a very slight metallic aftertaste. Possibly the amount of oxygen exposure makes the difference. For me, a top-notch New York.

Very Jamaican nose, ester, solvent, ripe fruits. Very funky without being aggressive. Surprised by a rather soft attack, more on the fruit. Then the wood, quite round. Nice length, a bit of tobacco. Very pleasant!

A New Yarmouth that unfortunately doesn't really grab me: Even after a long rest, the nose is strongly alcoholic, with some varnish and fruits joining in. Unfortunately, the alcohol also dominates the taste. Otherwise, you find the typical notes of yellow fruits, esters, and cookie dough. Conclusion: there are definitely much better NYs.

🥃 Swell New Yarmouth 2009 – 61.2% 2009, a year packed with esters at New Yarmouth... and you can feel it right away. 14 years in ex-bourbon, bottled cask strength in 2024 (only 200 bottles 👀). 👃 Nose Immediate explosion: ultra-ripe pineapple, mashed banana, big rich funk (solvent, varnish), a little green olive hanging around... and a touch of fresh mint to calm things down. Intense, characterful, no compromise. 👄 Palate Surprise: rounder and more indulgent than the nose. Dried banana, candied apricot, roasted pineapple... with a nice natural sweetness. Behind that, it unfolds with a fine minerality, some citrus, and a vegetal touch. Great balance between power and freshness. 🔚 Finish Medium length but very clean: exotic fruits, soft licorice, a hint of caramel. ✅ Verdict A real aromatic punch: high ester embraced but controlled. Funk + fruits + indulgence = winning combo 💥

Tasted as a preview at the Bordeaux Rhum Festival 2024 at the Swell stand, the bottles not yet labeled, the two Jamaicans selected for the Constantia restaurant caught my attention. An olfactory ensemble, funky with notes of solvent and glue, along with pastry notes; the nose could have been a bit more indulgent. The palate is lively, the alcohol is powerful; I would have preferred more body and creaminess. The glue and solvent notes appear again; the integration of the alcohol could have been better. Also, I find some slightly disturbing soap notes.
