Here's the surprise: 39 years in the tropics didn't turn this into an oak bomb. It's creamy and intense for just 44%, leaning wood, chocolate, caramel and dried fruit, with the grassy agricole edge nearly faded out. A few tasters wished for more punch and more complexity, but most found it round, elegant and remarkably alive for its age.

A sample taken at the German Rum Festival in Berlin in 2024. An elegant, fresh nose, with herbaceous and even floral notes, light oak and yellow fruit. The palate is in the same style, elegant, vegetal and fruity. The reduction is very well done and there's no hint of acidity, even if I personally would have preferred a higher ABV. The finish is rather short, with a woody bitterness at the very end. A fine rum with a beautiful nose, a fine palate and a slightly disappointing finish. Quite the opposite of the Chauvet tasted at the same time, but the Clément's complexity on the palate gives it the edge.

If the bottle was real, then very unimpressive. For almost 40 years of tropical aging you get a light Agricole with little complexity but lots of balance. Could also be a good XO or VSOP. Couldn't find anything exceptionally good about this rum.

Agricole melt of harmony. Super old with a balanced complexity. Barrel, chocolate, caramel, dried fruits, spices, roasted aromas and tobacco, all included. Intense vanilla and nougat in the finish, rarely experienced so intensely at only 44%. Thanks to Wolfgang!

Fair rating. Good classic Agricole with strong sugarcane and plant aromas. Also various intense spices, tobacco, and yellow fruits. Regarding the price-performance ratio, there are definitely better and younger Agricoles.

A privilege to be able to try a rum like this. Very intense and creamy for the low ABV, very mature and wood-heavy, almost without typical Agricole notes. Complexity could be more pronounced, but otherwise a very nice rum.

It’s maybe 15 years ago I tasted this the last time and then I was really impressed. Now when I’m more into stronger spirits this a bit weak for me though still really good. Would have loved tasting it before being watered down though.

This is a solid Clement, but given the credentials ant the secondary market pricing quite hard to adjust that to the content. It is rather simple where as stuff from the 50s from martinique usually isnt.
