A very good price-enjoyment ratio and therefore a clear recommendation for beginners and bargain hunters. It has a pleasant fruity nose and noticeable wood notes in the taste. For this price category a surprisingly convincing product.

The rum has a light golden hue. It smells sweet, a little like sherry and honey, very pleasant. The taste is already a little whisky-like, hardly any sweetness at first, but some of it comes out later in the finish. The finish is short to medium-long, with a slight spiciness. A pleasant drop.

The molasses comes from Dom. Rep. and Guyana. After distillation it’s aged in former bourbon and Tennessee whiskey barrels between five and eight years before blended and bottled. In my opinion is this an outstanding everyday rum, especially when taking the price into account.

#5028 04.01.2025 Relaxing at home with some samples. Nose Wood, light roasted, light caramel, vanilla, dried fruit, faint cherry. Palate Round, wood, light roasted, light caramel, light vanilla, oily, light spicy, faint polish, dried fruit. Finish Medium long, wood, light roasted, vanilla, raisin, light cherry, light caramel, light tannins. The empty glass has wood, a light sour note, light honey and light marzipan.

7,4:The nose opens with a light rum with a strong toasted woodiness. Some fruit rests at the heart of the glass, with a little orange peel.Vanilla and other sweet spices, like cinnamon and nutmeg, retain their liveliness and freshness.There are some medicinal notes and roastedness, mocha. The aeration brings more freshness and the fruit takes advantage to deliver a rich, sweet juice. Orange peel is the first to emerge, paving the way for more exotic fruits, very ripe. American oak follows in classic fashion, with luscious notes of vanilla, coconut and tobacco, dried fruits. 7,5:The palate is soft and entirely devoted to the American oak. After a slight bite of dry wood, vanilla, sweet spices and toasted coconut quickly invade the palate, some metallic notes. The wood becomes more toasted on the mid-palate, approaching caramelized and roasted nuts such as pecan. 7:The finish is light, woody, with luscious coconut and orange peel returning once again..

If alcohol hadn't been given the mantle of being unhealthy, english harbour would be my daily friend. Not too complex, not too full-bodied, but a loyal and gentle friend by the fireside in the evening. Absolutely convincing in taste and PLV. One of the best you can get in this price segment.

This rum is not really a secret tip. It is surprisingly complex with fruity aromas on a toffee-caramel base. The barrel ageing is also very clear. Really great for the price.

An Antigua rum with a very classic and traditional profile. The nose is filled with caramelized, vanilla and woody notes accompanied by a hint of dried fruits and nuts on a sherry background. It’s accessible but rather banal to be honest. The attack accentuates the sweetness on the palate with its notes of caramel and burnt sugar. Dried fruits, vanilla, mild spices and lightly roasted wood complete a simple and basic profile. It’s hard to let the aromas speak because they are so diluted, which is a real shame. The finish returns on the same register, with a bit of coconut and a bit more length, but nothing transcendent. A decent permanent range rum, but lacking personality to stand out from the countless traditional rums.

Tasting one of my cocktail rum bottles. On the nose: Vanilla, woody, roasted, light dried fruits, light caramel notes and light spice notes. Taste: Vanilla, woody, light caramel, light dried fruit notes, light roasted notes. Round. Finish: Light vanilla notes, Woody notes, roasted notes, light spice notes. Dry finish. It think that the price to quality is pretty good and this is good rum for beginners. Flavour palate is pretty close to typical Barbados rum notes.

A nice rum. I generally like these wood notes. It starts in the nose already with oak wood, a bit of vanilla and a light spice. Taste also very pleasant. The wood note doesn't last as long as in the El Dorado 12 but for the price that's totally fine. Great product and great price.

English Harbour 5 is a great first dry rum for beginners. It's not particularly complex and doesn't overwhelm you with 500 different aromas. Caramel, wood, light sweetness, spices. Very relaxed. And absolutely great value for the price.

A very mild rum that does not stand out from the crowd. The smell and taste are rather boring with a short finish. Due to the classic vanilla and wood flavors, it is certainly suitable for mixing.

A subtle and round nose. The main note is fresh lemon peel. Closely followed by pineapple, vanilla and distant roasted coffee beans. The palate initially hits you with caramel, oak, then a touch of raisin. There's a pleasant creaminess that's quite dessert like. The finish is very short. Not much to talk about. A whisp of smoke, more distant coffee and a flash of coconut husk. A great rum for the price. Nothing challenging but also doesn't taste cheap. Perfectly nice to drink neat.

For me, this is one of the best rums in terms of value for money. Of course, you can't expect anything extraordinary for the price. But it is a very nice everyday rum. Oily, very balanced, the alcohol has been perfectly integrated. It will probably end up in my home bar more often.

Always recommended because of its price-performance ratio. So far the cheapest rum I've tried, didn't quite convince me. I find it fades quite quickly and is not very complex. But I lack comparison to similarly cheap rum types. I guess for the price it's not bad. Probably good for mixing too, but I can't judge as I only drink it neat.

The English Harbour 5 Years smells sweet and spicy to me. Burnt sugar and vanilla come together with dried fruits and a bit of pineapple. There are also herbs, leather, and a distinct wood and barrel note. On the palate, it stays sweet, with dried fruits, spices, and a touch of roastiness. The finish is rather dry and woody, with barrel notes and a slightly bitter tannin note. Overall pleasant, but the dry, woody side sticks with me the most.

Very good everyday rum. Price-performance ratio fits perfectly. It’s not complex. It’s not supposed to be. Very soft and mild. Very good nose of tropical fruits, vanilla, caramel, wood and honey (though I might be mistaken). The same on the palate. Fruity, vanilla (doesn’t stand out much in my opinion), you always notice the bourbon cask. Nose and palate. The finish is relatively short. All in all a faithful companion. Great rum. This is really a little insider tip.

Pleasant rum. Not a high end one but nice to savour nonetheless. Its smell of flowers and fruit is incredible and gives an impression of smoothness. When you get to the taste, I felt it sweet but at the same time oakish whilst being strong on the achohol side. At the end the flavour lasted longer than expected and leaving a good impression overall.

The English Harbour 5 Years shows itself to me as a pleasantly round and at the same time surprisingly complex rum. After a few minutes of rest in the glass, it unfolds a light, almost playful freshness, in which a delicate citrus note meets creamy vanilla and a hint of sweetness. In both scent and taste, fresh oak comes through, accompanied by subtle hints of polish, giving the rum a charming, somewhat matured depth. Overall, it seems remarkably balanced – and at a price of around €21, the price-performance ratio is simply excellent.

Wow, a great round rum for the price. The rum isn't totally complex, but offers a harmonious picture of dark notes (wood, caramel, a bit of dried fruit). If you take the rum somewhere, you have a great base for mixing, but you can also enjoy it neat.

The English Harper has a slightly sweet rum taste for me without any special slips. It has warm wood, vanilla, and caramel notes; the color reminds me of syrup. The alcohol is well integrated and not in the foreground. I enjoy it neat or with a really good piece of chocolate.

It's definitely not overly sweet, the nose and palate are quite interesting including the finish, where the sweetness fades even more. A nice bottle that's a pleasant choice for beginners or for trying out a new brand from an unusual destination.
