Better than you'd fear from a Batavia arrack Verschnitt — that's the recurring surprise here. Fermented tropical fruit, glue and light ester on the nose hint at a diluted Jamaican cousin, then the palate turns buttery with cream toffee and a metallic, slightly bitter edge. At 40% the neutral spirit still shows through, and the finish goes short, dry and soapy. Curious, not polished.

Apparently things are looking up in the world of Arracks. This one is already a bit better. Quite fruity (tropical fruits) and fermented on the nose. On the palate also tropical fruits, plus it is sweet and alcoholic at the same time.

5,2:On the nose, esters, glue, burnt rubber, fermented tropical fruits, sweet, vegetal and perfumed, smoky and peppery, there is some metallic patina. 4,2:On the palate, the attack is sweet, buttery with cream toffee, confectionery, spicy, salty and smoky, alcoholic, fruity with fermented tropical fruits, medicinal with esters, glue, metallic touch is there, soapy notes, bitterness. 3,5:The finish is short, dry, soapy, bitter, metallic, the fruits like pears are fermented, some spiciness and smokiness stays, rubber notes.

Once again an outstanding tasting that Artur organized superbly. Many thanks for the introduction to the world of Arra(c)k. The blends are a real challenge for the taste buds. But what really surprised me was this BASF bottling. My deepest respect for the time and effort that is always put into it. A real honor to be able to participate in such tastings again and again.

Arra(c)k 2.0 tasting by Artur. A much more interesting nose than the previous ones, with butter, pepper, tropical fruit, cedar wood and esters. A decent entry with neutral alcohol, but also tropical fruit, butter, light pepper and pear. The finish is spicy (pepper), woody with a hint of pear. Unlike its predecessors, it doesn't seem to be a verschnitt, and has a Jamaican feel with esters, but very diluted.

Arrac(k) tasting 2.0 by Artur. An exciting tasting journey with an impressive range of styles and profiles. From smoky to fruity to spicy, everything was represented – sometimes a bit unbalanced, sometimes surprisingly round. Especially some bottlings showed a lot of character and depth and stayed memorable. A format that is really fun. Thanks Artur for the opportunity! 😊

The nose still promises pleasant esters reminiscent of Jamaica with some tropical fruits & butyric acid. On the palate also some esters, some smoke and metallic notes, slightly buttery and minimally woody. Still far from round here, as the blend is still noticeable.

One of the better representatives, with sweetness, wood, and butter cookies. Arra(c)k Attack 2.0 tasting with Artur all across, from really nasty blends to surprisingly good representatives, everything included. Great journey to this completely unknown spirit to me so far.
