Hardy from the house of Saint James. A rarity in Germany. Hardy is an independent bottler from the island of Martinique. A very complex rhum, rather something for connoisseurs. The rhum needs some time but the finish is long and intense. I'm looking forward to the second glass 🥃.

Urlaub Karibik September 2026. Dieses Set mit 5 Hardy Rums haben Mitch und ich uns dann jeweils noch am Flughafen auf Martinique gekauft, da ich von der Reihe noch kaum was hatte. Netter Abschluss der Karibiktour mit insgesamt 101 neu verkosteten Rums :)

This is a bottle that can be hard to find as its and independent bottler we don't often hear from. A nice Saint James with fruits and light wood with some nuttyness to it. A bit light in the profile bit the price tag is pretty good. The empty glass has some light leather notes.

Hardy XO, 43°, really not bad. The nose needs time to open up and reveal a racé woodiness, some nuts, a soft vanilla and some dried fruits. The palate is quite mellow and typical of Martinique, with more dried fruits, a bit of liqueur plum. The cask is still well present with this delicate oak, not too overpowering, but bringing its vanilla notes. The fruity side stays well on the palate with a moderately long and balanced finish. Very respectable for a rather little-known brand.

On the nose it's intriguing with burnt sugar, wood, dates, vanilla and hazelnuts. On the palate it's dry and woody with tobacco and a finish of sweet dates and toasted vanilla, in the aftertaste leather and dry/toasted wood. In the empty glass wood and aged notes. It's a simple agricole without too much depth, but I particularly love this woody dryness that envelops it and lingers long. Oscillates between 8.8 and 9 Objectively it's an 8 or less.

Surprisingly round for an agricole, it has a woody nose that leans a bit towards leather and vanilla. On the palate, it's date and prune that settle in before giving some space to oak and vanilla.
