The nose is shimmering though quite closed. A bit of airing later, it expresses itself more. I can't help but compare it to another rum from my collection, from the same distillery: the Vagabond Spirits Harmony, aged in Jurançon cask. The latter, younger but stronger in alcohol, is also stronger and more complex on the nose. However, you find the same DNA. Lots of exotic fruits: papaya, perfectly ripe fresh mango, less passion fruit than the Harmony. But it's still there. A very fine woodiness brings just the right amount of vanilla. But above all, you feel a wealth of complex spices. It's light and fresh. Ideal for people starting out in rum wanting to get away from the Hispanics. The palate follows the same path. It's soft, very round, and there's this indulgence that would make you sip the bottle very (too?) easily. Not to be left within reach of the uncle with an easy elbow raise during Christmas dinner. Again, lots of exotic fruits, but also more empyreumatic notes: smoked like boucané, worn and patinated leather. The finish is accompanied by the same cooking spices and a very honeyed side. The finale gently lingers without being cloying, medium in length, with still this quite young and lively oak, these spices, and yellow fruits (notably vineyard peach). It's clearly a rum that would be a trap for an alcoholic because it makes you want to pour yourself another. Incredibly indulgent, it doesn't have the aromatic power and complexity of its young alter ego from Vagabond Spirits. The latter is better, undoubtedly, but this VSOP has undeniable likeability going for it.

Tasted this OK molasses rum from Guadeloupe at Rhum Fest Paris 2026. The nose is elegant, spicy, woody, sweet, floral and fruity with scents of vanilla, honey, acacia, plum and pear. At the palate it’s rich, fatty, woody, spicy and sweet with flavors of butter, salt, caramel, pastry, coffee and mushrooms. The finish is medium long.

Sur les trois (VO VSOP XO) , c est celui que j ai préféré. J ai trouvé que le travail du fût était bien. On garde une bonne partie du fruité de la version VO en l enrichissant d un boisé agréable apportant de la vanille et un léger grillé. J aime bien aussi son côté beurré .
