For a while this was my go-to rum for a tasty, affordable rum and cola. It has a distinct smoky note that makes it interesting. Of course, its availability at every Aldi (at least here in the North) is an advantage.

I remember it very well. Havana Club 7 years was about 20 years ago my second or third good rum I had drunk until then. It's a pleasure both neat and with cola. The also Cuban 7-year-old Mulata Rum equally captivated me. It's a bit fruitier, but cost only 10€ at Aldi. To this day, I know no better spirit for that price. Both Cubans are honest and not (or hardly) sweetened rums.

This was my first real rum mixology where the master did some pretty good drinks. Please be aware that the score is based on the final result and not for the "raw rum" in a clea tasting, which would be pretty different! Red breeze 2 cl Mulata 2 cl blackcurrant liquor 4 cl cranberry juice 4cl grapefruit juice Shake really well with ice and serve. Nice sweet and cooling mixer that I'd say would be pretty good on a hot day at the beach.

I like it better than the hc7. Nice banana, smoke and dark chocolate notes. Also lingers a bit longer taste-wise like the rest... you can do that.

Read full review ›Not enough complexity despite its 7 years of ageing. There are better Cuban rums - Ron de Santiago and Ron Cubay available at this price. This is less complex and a touch sweeter than those rums. I personally prefer this to Havana Club 7 Year Old - but its touch...
