Foursquare Wagemut The Origin (RumX Co-Bottling) 2026
Oak, dried fruit and warm caramel, dry and honest, with a vanilla note that grows as it sits. This is Foursquare stripped bare — the same 10-year base as the PX-Cask but without the sherry or the sweetness, so the rum itself does the talking. At 64,1% it's got real punch, yet most tasters find the alcohol surprisingly well integrated. Give it time in the glass.

#7237 30.08.2026 Tasted at the German Rum Festival 2026. Atypical Barbados with a very nice kick to it. The C1 is very light in comparison. Fruity and lightly spicy with nice caramel and roasted wood and a touch of pepper. I like these Foursquare that run off a bit. Needs time in the glass though 😊 Price to quality is very good in my mind. This is a rum that will split waters!

For me personally absolutely untypical Foursquare. Very alcoholic on the nose and unbalanced. I tasted it twice to be sure. Doesn't linger long on the palate either. Doesn't really make you want to differentiate the individual aromas. Compared to other "standard" cask strength bottlings I've tried over the years, unfortunately not very appealing. There are much more solid entries into cask strength.
Review by Skyfly
Tasting note. A really solid FSQ. As promised, no frills and/or intense cask influence that sweetens the whole thing, but also nothing more. All the classic FSQ markers are present and well balanced.
Review by Schorgelorsch
A solid Barbados rum. Everything it needs is there. It's not particularly complex or equipped with a remarkable flavor profile, but it wasn't announced or advertised as such. A nice rum for an evening sipper. The alcohol warmth is really intense though.
Review by Timo Groeger
Nice bottling, I find it a nice sipper. You can definitely recognize Foursquare. Especially coconut, but also dried fruits, vanilla, caramel and wood. I just find it a tad too alcoholic.
Review by Eugene227
It shows Foursquare in an unadulterated way: dry, full-bodied, and without dosage. Dried fruits, vanilla, caramel, and spicy oak shape the profile. The 64% ABV is quite well integrated. Not a spectacular rum, but what you get for 60€ in the glass is bold, honest, and very harmonious.
Review by Sascha Glaser
A nice Foursquare rum at cask strength with a great presence. At a solid 64%, the alcohol is still quite pleasant, although it definitely has some power. The slightly sweet finish with tropical citrus fruits is also somewhat refreshing.
Review by The Specialist
For my taste a very solid and honest rum (Foursquare) without much fuss and as hoped, a Wagemut bottling without sherry influence and with more punch👍. I find the alcohol well integrated but already present. Slight sweetness and cask notes present. The finish could be a bit longer. Edit: I tried it over the weekend in a Wagemut Sour and in a Corn and Oil. For my taste, it fits really well there too😋
Review by Jens Mulzer
Nose: dried fruits, chocolate, nutty, baking spices. Taste: lots of chocolate, hazelnuts, vanilla, baking spices. The finish could be longer. I really like this rum, even though there’s definitely room for improvement. But 60€ is really great value for money in my opinion.

Today the praised Wagemut Origin. Solid rum but noticeably more alcoholic compared to the Supernum 2004. Much less complexity. In the end, I have to say I hoped for a bit more. I wouldn't buy a bottle.
Review by TheJackDrop
A round that's both indulgent with coconut, vanilla, and caramel, but also quite dry and spicy, warming your heart. A good kick at 64% that will delight fans of Barbados and Belize in my opinion! No gimmicks, I like it; I often find Foursquare a bit heavy, but not here!
Review by Steph Genlee
Atypical for a Foursquare, the markers are clearly present, both on the nose and palate. Coconut, chocolate, dried fruit, and oak barrel are well present, all spiced up and peppery. A caramelized chocolate side lingers in the mouth. You can really feel the 64 degrees. I just regret a somewhat light finish on the palate. Very good value for money, which makes this creation very interesting.
Review by Bubo
Unreserved recommendation for Foursquare fans. Flavor-wise a bit rougher than e.g. Doorly's 12 or longer aged ECS bottlings. Though that should not be understood negatively. In my opinion also clearly better than the standard Wagemut bottlings.
Review by Thomas
On the nose, the rum starts very friendly with light vanilla notes and the promise of a relaxed evening. On the tongue, however, the cask strength method follows first: the alcohol speaks loudly and pushes itself a bit too much to the front. Then it becomes much quieter. For a Foursquare, it takes very unusual paths and does not necessarily show the typical signature of the distillery. Instead of telling long stories, it rather says goodbye with a short handshake and a "Nice, see you!". Overall, it is still an uncomplicated easy sipper. Those just discovering the world of cask strength rums will find a fairly accessible entry here without being overwhelmed aromatically. Its real strength, however, I see in cocktails, especially where coconut aromas are needed. It feels noticeably more comfortable there and contributes its part to the tropical vacation in the glass. Not a big character actor, but a solid supporting actor with a Caribbean holiday application in its pocket. 🍹🥥🥃

This is an absolute price-performance hit. I find this rum very very tasty, pleasantly sharp, but not spritzy. The only downside of this drop is the short finish. Otherwise really great!
Review by David Brandes
I was able to try it after my order at the German Rum Festival and was thrilled. For me, despite the cask strength, a very pleasant Foursquare rum to drink. I haven't had much comparable in the glass yet, but I'm glad I'm slowly daring to approach cask strength as well. Typical, powerful Foursquare notes like dried fruits, coconut, caramel, vanilla, and distinct oak spice
Review by St. Dubs
Slightly woody with some hints of wood and dried fruit. Alcohol nicely integrated, considering it's ~64%. Not as sweet as similarly-aged Foursquare rums. Barrel flavor present, but far from dominant. A solid rum.
Review by René Eckrodt
You can tell the age of at least 10 years on the nose. Then comes the first sip. An explosive mix of oak and old bourbon barrel. Then smooth raisin and a really long but soft finish. The 64.1% are simply perfectly integrated. As if the rum is begging to go into a sherry cask next. The first aromas of that are already noticeable. A very good RUM!
Review by F.L.O.
Foursquare....typical foursquare.... A very good foursquare to be honest. Wood, musty, vanilla, coconut....who's surprised. You can't go wrong. Price-performance ratio also top at cask strength. Not a miracle bottling....but it wasn't meant to be. A bridge builder...
Review by Tim21
Quick short peak, then short finish. Overall sweet and boring, but at the same time quite drinkable. Will probably end up more in cocktails combined with an exciting rum.
Review by StefanR
[German Rum Festival 2026] The Wagemut The Origin shows Foursquare refreshingly unfiltered: dried fruits, banana and caramel meet pineapple, chocolate, pepper and spicy oak. Despite a mighty 64.1%, the alcohol feels surprisingly well integrated. I find it especially exciting as a counterpoint to the sweet PX-Cask – here the rum itself finally gets to play the leading role. Dry, strong and straightforward; maybe not a big exotic, but damn honest stuff. I find this bottling conceptually particularly interesting. If you know the regular Wagemut PX-Cask, here you basically get the chance to "take it apart": no PX sherry, no added sweetness – just the ten years tropically aged Foursquare base at cask strength. I didn't expect to be able to taste the rum here at the fair. Afterwards, it was clear that a bottle had to come home in the backpack.

Great Foursquare tasting, part II (30.09.2026)
Review by JerryDerGlatzkopf
Strong, aromatic and slightly sweet but by no means a sweet rum. You can tell it's the base spirit from the PX Cask but you can also taste what Nico does with the base spirit. Highly recommended but only for those who also like the PX Cask in cask strength or other strengths. For those who say the PX Cask is strong (in terms of %), this is too much of a good thing. Price-performance at release (60€/0.7l) is absolutely top! Overall awesome stuff 🤟🏻
Review by rumiub
The cask strength is really intense. On the nose rather fruity, sweet, and on the tongue more toasty and slightly sweet aromas. Less deep profile and rather direct/linear "in your face." Somehow puristic without much frill. Fewer proof would have suited it better. Time in the glass definitely helps it.
Review by David Riek
The first impression was that I was drinking a Plantation 20th Anniversary with a bit more volume and no added sugar. The typical Foursquare notes for me were missing. For me, the taste of coconut prevailed, not that that's bad, I love coconut, but for a 10-year-old Foursquare that was unfortunately too much. Conclusion: solid rum at cask strength and good to drink.
Review by Rumantisch
On the nose, lots of coconut, vanilla, and caramel. The intense coconut remains in the mouth as well. Vanilla and caramel are also present, along with a spiciness typical for Foursquare. The finish is quite long. The finish gets spicier and spicier.

WAGEMUT ‚The Origin‘ Foursquare 10 y.o. Barados Rum 64.1% (Cooperation with RumX) This sample (thx Oli) reached me while I was on holiday in Porto so I am late to the tasting party. It is the cask strength origin of the famous Wagemut PX-Rum by Nicolas Kröger, 100% tropical aged, almost 52% angel’s share and straight out of Bourbon casks (no PX here). Honest and natural for under 60 Euros. Sounds great. Nose: A very typical Barbados for me, well balanced, the grilles pineapple meets salted fudgy caramel, vanilla and fruit. The white oak casks released coconut, cinnamon, cardamom, peppery spices (even chili in undiluted base), banana and a hint of smoke from toasting. I am also getting linden blossom as in Belize rums, lemon balm, dates, maracuja, almonds, white chocolate with big nuts and a well-glazed lemon sponge cake. Palate: Wonderful delivery on balanced power. It somehow has a funky and fruity arrival phase, more than the nose would have suggested. This works neat and with water. We got a good balance between the wood n’ spice and the sweetness as it moves from dry to sweet over time. The aromas of the nose are joined by old sultanas and dried apricots. Water sorts it out and elevates the smoke while tuning down spiciness. Finish: Medium length in harmonic waves, cedar touch, Barbados charm. Score: 86+ (recommended at its price point)

An honest, classic Barbados rum with the unmistakable character of Foursquare. Vanilla, caramel, oak, and roasted nuts clearly take center stage and deliver exactly what you expect from a tropically aged Foursquare. The high cask strength provides intensity and punch, but in my opinion, it’s not optimally integrated and sometimes feels a bit too present. Those who prefer strong, dry rums will still get a lot of quality here at a fair price. Compared directly to the big ECS releases, The Origin lacks a bit of depth and balance, at least to my taste.
Review by Lemmy
The rum needs some time in the glass. Patience is rewarded though. Then the alcohol notes in the nose and mouth become clearly more pleasant. Basically not for sweet rum lovers. Beautiful notes of soft caramel, dried fruits, a slight sweetness + light cask notes. Long finish with slightly peppery notes on the tongue. Later in the glass briefly minimal notes of fresh mint. Great Barbados rum with very good price-performance ratio.
Review by Svene
The Origin from Wagemut is a typical Barbados rum. It smells and tastes of banana, coconut with a slight woodiness and spice. The alcohol is very well integrated. I can even detect a slight sweetness. Overall, a successful Barbados rum from the house of Foursquare.
Review by frz_
Unfortunately a rather boring flavor profile especially compared to the PX-Cask Cask Strength. Expected more from this drop. Foursquare Rum is clearly more interesting. Still an experience, because you can taste for yourself how much the PX influences the other products.
Review by SaschaA
Very fruity, spicy without sweetness, top-class rum, very smooth but not for beginners or those who like sweet stuff.
Review by Ivo Höfner
I share all aspects from the current reviews and can understand both camps who disagree on various aspects of the evaluation. Maybe it is simply a VERY GOOD reference product AND PROJECT to finally be able to drop all superlatives. A great ten-year-old Foursquare without big fuss for a very elegant and tasty entry (and enjoyment) into the world of unsweetened cask strengths. You three (Oliver, Nicolas, and Richard) just did it! THANK YOU!
Review by Weil.i.ned.mog
What Wagemut C1 already hinted at comes to light here. Without sherry, a typical Barbados rum. Tasty but easy to drink. A slight hint of ester without overwhelming a novice. A wonderful introduction to the world of Caribbean aging 😋

GRF 2026: Didn't find this one outstanding (...for all the hype around it). Great value for money though.
Review by Icebird
You can immediately tell from the smell that it's a Foursquare, good cask strength and quite pleasant at 64.1%. For €59, top value for money, I like it and it doesn't need to hide from others :)
Review by DrinkLink
Feels sweetened, an absolute disappointment if you know what the distiller is usually capable of. This rum is too one-dimensional for me and gives me the impression that it was only gently but afterwards sweetened. Flat profile.

Very compex with a certain fruity plum to dried raisin taste. All in all very pleasant medium lasting sensation. A real treat for your tastebuds. I recomend this stuff to anyone daring to get hooked in the world of rum.
Review by Thomas-Braach
WOW, the best price-performance ratio!!! 64% that come across zero negative, no, they lift the taste to a great experience. Negative: you can only buy 2 bottles.
Review by Martin Mihaly
What can you say? I've been waiting a long time to compare 01 and Origin, unfortunately I'm disappointed. At first, the nose is nice, ester, woody, fruity, sweet, a bit sharp, vanilla notes and apricots, really a nice nose. But then on the palate it's totally different, sharp, woody and dry. Coconut, oily texture and peppery. Sure, you can say it's cask strength but maybe good rum in the wrong cask? On the finish warm coconut woody but not very long. Unfortunately 01 won.

Dreamy... cozy warm in the mouth... sweet

For me, the Wagemut The Origin is a very successful 10-year-old Barbados rum at cask strength. At 64.1% vol., it is definitely aimed at experienced rum drinkers who appreciate powerful bottlings but don’t want an over-sugared or overly softened style. ## Tasting On the nose, there is oak, tropical fruits, and a pleasantly earthy note. The profile feels mature, dry, and full of character, without seeming artificial or forced. On the palate, warm caramel notes combine with dried fruits and an interesting, slightly savory umami component. Despite the high strength, the rum remains surprisingly harmonious for me: it has power and depth without the alcohol overpowering the flavors. Especially the combination of tropical fruit, wood, caramel, and spice makes it exciting. ## Finish The medium-long finish is carried by tropical fruits and caramel. At the very beginning, a very subtle, light burning is noticeable. For me, the alcohol is overall very well integrated and by no means dominant or disturbing. Those not used to cask strength might understandably find the 64.1% vol. intense. For experienced lovers of strong, rather dry rums, however, this is not a disadvantage but part of the successful overall picture. ## Conclusion Not a rum for fans of sweet, uncomplicated beginner bottlings – but a very convincing Barbados rum at cask strength for experienced connoisseurs. Powerful, dry, fruity, and spicy, with well-integrated alcohol strength and pleasant maturity. A clear recommendation from me: 8.5/10 points.
Review by MaxC
Basically pleasant aroma, wood, vanilla, caramel and light dried fruits on the nose and palate, in the mouth I find a slight glue note quite late. Unfortunately I find it quite alcoholic and unbalanced.
Review by Rum4Fun
Impression as a cask strength beginner: Nose: After 15 minutes of rest, initially a fine, light citrus note appears. The high alcohol content of 64.1% vol. is initially noticeably present on the nose. With a bit more time in the glass, the alcohol recedes somewhat and gentle vanilla and fruit notes increasingly unfold. Palate: First sip: Pleasant spice, still quite restrained. Second sip: A massive alcohol punch! For me as a beginner, there was even a very brief, distinct pressure in the stomach at first. But once the palate gets used to the strength, this feeling completely subsides. Further sips: The initial sharpness gives way to a beautiful, present vanilla note, a light fruitiness, and a harmonious cask spice – not too strong, not too weak. Conclusion: As a newcomer to unsweetened cask strengths, you are initially almost overwhelmed by the natural force (2 cl is more than enough!). But if you give the rum a good hour, it rewards you with an incredibly honest, multi-layered profile without any artificial additives. Standard bottlings in the 30–40 € range seem completely flat in comparison. An extremely exciting rum, I give it a strong 8/10 (the Wagemut Maduro scores slightly higher with 8.5/10 due to its additional smoothness).
Review by Ruminator
Cask strength from Fourthsquare. Very well integrated 64%. If you want to experience a Barbados rum from its base aging in bourbon casks, this is the one. Pure vanilla, caramel, and cask. No frills. Very oily in its consistency. This is the raw material of Wagemut for its refinements.
Review by Linus94
The smell woody, floral, light, with coconut. The taste woody with some apricot dominated by the alcohol. In the finish vegetal and woody followed by the cozy burning of the alcohol. Overall good but not an easy sipper for me. I will probably use it to blend with the PX cask and take out some sweetness and raise the alcohol content. Edit: on the 2nd glass I like it even better. Somehow makes me want the Origin from Wagemut XO... Nico want Origin Wagemut XO?
Review by ThatCubanRumGuy
Nose: Coconut, caramel, vanilla, toasted nuts and a hint of cocoa Palate: Heavy barrel influence (roasted oak), caramel, typical Foursquare notes (citrusy fruits and toasted almonds) and some pepper. Finish: Medium long, sweet smoky oak, almost like molasses and roasted wood, and baking spice.
Review by Thomas Heckmann
Very good Foursquare at cask strength. The vanilla aromas come through immediately. Accompanied by wood and light dried fruit aromas. The finish is mildly vanilla.
Review by Cedric_
Addendum to my tasting from GRF 26: The release price for 10 years of tropical aging and cask strength is really fair. Unfortunately, the rum itself is nothing special. Typical Foursquare profile with a very alcoholic note. Unfortunately, not much happens on the palate. Possibly interesting for cocktails but I won’t buy a whole bottle just for the experiment.
