Smell it blind and you might guess Sauvignon Blanc — the Jurançon wine-cask finish loads this young Guadeloupe molasses rum with gooseberry, passion fruit, papaya and a fresh mint streak. A rum tasted at the GRF in 2025. Great discoveries at the Vagabond Spirits booth, including this rum from Guadeloupe. A fruity nose with tropical fruits, a vegetal and fermented side with wood support. A kind of natural sweetness reminds me that the finish was done in Jurançon casks. The first sip is slightly watery but immediately after the aromas intensify, then the bitterness of the wood develops, slightly masking the fruits. The finish is also marked by this woody bitterness, which costs a few points here. Otherwise, a very nice rum.

I feel that's the kind of rum which one will either love or hate. That's more on the hate side for me unfortunately. The nose is very fruity, peach, tropical fruit. The mouth... It's where there's something odd. It's certainly fruity again but there's something I cannot name that bothers me. The finish is long but with this aftertaste I'm not a big fan of.

7,9:On the nose, wine notes with grapes, kiwi hints, fresh, vegetal molasses, floral, spicy wood with vanilla, slightly sulphurous, bump in our nosetrils. On aeration, it becomes fruitier with currants, gooseberries, maracuja, passion fruit, papaya. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is fresh with wine notes, minty, herbaceous, floral molasses, later earthy, sweet with honeycomb, sugar, more complex, fruity with passion fruit, papaya, maracuja, citrus, red fruits and currants, medicinal with menthol, as the wood is young, spicy with vanilla. 8,1:The finish is medium long, dry and tannic, slightly medicinal, wine barrel impact is obvious, the wood is roasted with nuts, caramel, leather, spicy with baking spices, smoky, fruits are tropical, citrus and molasses is fresh, minty, grassy, herbaceous, sweet with honey hints. #6763 08.05.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after getting back from the Pub meeting up with a few of my old coleagues. Watching friends on HBO with my wife. Price to quality you get a lot for your money here and it also does pretty well in a cola. A fruity rum with nice mint, herbs and light roasted wood.

Young Guadeloupe rum with a simple, quite direct profile. On the nose sugarcane, some fruit and a light spice. On the palate fresh, slightly grassy and spicy with little depth. Seems clean but still quite unripe and a bit thin in expression. Quite okay, but nothing that sticks around.

The nose greets us with something extremely fruity, and we're struck by the immediate presence of Jurançon. In addition to this mellow wine, there are fresh fragrances and a wave of exotic fruit: passion fruit, yellow kiwi and, above all, a fruit I had the pleasure of tasting in Martinique: the quenette. It's like biting into a Tutti Frutti tart, with the acidity of fresh redcurrants. With a little rest, this nose becomes more complex, with a light woodiness and a hint of papaya. But what lurks in the background, and I'll come back to this in a few lines, is a touch of menthol and some herbaceous notes. On the palate, the fruitiness is even more incredible than on the nose. Hints of tangy red fruit and ripe maracuja. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, and we give it 10° less on the tongue. But what's staggering after a minute or two is how the palate is flooded with fresh mint, and then I say to myself: "Damn! But it's like a TDL!" Blind, I wouldn't be able to discern a big difference between this keel and a very good rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited. A very pleasant surprise given that TDL is one of my favorite distilleries in the rum world. The only difference between this rum and the Spirit Gallery TDL is the greater complexity, length and opulence in favor of the TDL. The finish is reminiscent of sweet yellow wine. The finish is moderately long. The menthol fades in favor of the exotic fruitiness, which lingers in the throat for quite some time.

An exceptional rum that can't be categorized into any specific type. The aromas are too diverse and not really classic. But that's definitely not a bad thing... on the contrary... the whole thing feels quite refreshing, especially the interplay between fruit and vegetal notes is something special!

On the nose: Wine cask influence is present. Fruity, vegetal, slightly fermented, light wood notes. Lovely on the nose. Taste: Fresh with wine cask notes. Fruity notes. Then you get vegetal and minty notes. Quite sweet, but feels naturally sweet. Light menthol notes in the background. Abv integration is very good. Finish:Minty, wine and light menthol notes. Some red fruit notes and light woody notes. Medium finish. Interesting cask selection and its pretty good rum especially for the price. A rum for wine drinkers.

The wine cask slaps many lovely and delicious fruit aromas onto a brand that sometimes seems quite young. In the nose, behind the tropical fruity sweetness, there's always a slight alcoholic haze passing by, which sometimes makes me think of an exotic fruit brandy, and also a latent undertone of chopped celery stalks occasionally makes me frown. However, the nice aspects clearly outweigh these in this rum, which is why I like it overall.

Incredibly awesome nose like a really good Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay. Gooseberry, passion fruit, papaya, and a bit of mint, along with young wood and floral notes combine here in a highly exciting way. Very cool finish! Plus points for the phenomenal nose!

I have to say this rum also somewhat impressed me. Lots of fruit on the nose, mostly tropical fruits, but also some wine. On the palate as well, but here it is still quite fresh and floral.

First of all thanks to MrRumantic who had the bottle opened right after purchase or had it opened by the bartender in the hotel. Unfortunately, this "exotically clever" bottling did not catch me. It's just not my taste.

Tasted at the Multi Verres Spirits fair in Lyon in February 2025: superb! All about exotic fruits, papaya. Very exuberant, rich, with a very nice texture. Nice molasses that changes things up and stands out.

The nose is very flattering, dominated by an exotic fruity freshness, but also sweeter, fattier flavors like flambéed banana. On the palate, the fruit is still very present, with a more acidic facet like maracuja and a vinous side too, confirming the contribution of the cask, before giving way to a minty freshness. In conclusion, this is a rather young rum, only 3 years old, but it already has incredible character. I really like it and have ordered a bottle.

On the nose, this rum starts off very fruity, with notes of pineapple / mango and other tropical fruits, for example. And mint, herbs. This comes through wonderfully on the palate as well. What a special, unique fruity rum; something I haven't tasted like this before. Very refreshing, summery, fruity, a touch of menthol, young wood, and floral rum. The floral side comes more to the fore, especially towards the long finish. A special tasting rum. I really like it.

Edit: I got myself a bottle and I'm already thinking of taking some backup bottles as well, I really love this rum. An amazing blend of tropical fruits and menthol, and red fruits finish. This one here is great, for such a young rum this is very surprising.

Mango, passion fruit, sweet, ripe tropical fruits, olives, slightly alcoholic, a bit like yellow plums, a hint of kiwi, slightly sharp on the palate, somewhat like olives, salty, fruits, alcohol warms lightly. Quite special but tasty. The nose reminds me a bit of Agricole, a bit confusing. PVL top.

Bonus from the end-of-year lineup: Vagabond Spirits – Bonne Mère 3Y (52%) Gaetan had a little surprise for us to close out the year: a rum from the Bonne Mère distillery (Guadeloupe), aged 3 years on site then 3 months in a Jurançon late harvest barrel – Domaine Lajibe. Reduced to 52% in a limited edition for the Multi Verres Spirits Lyon fair. And here... I have to say I don’t really get the general enthusiasm. 😅 It’s clearly a rum that divides people: you either love it or hate it. For me, it’s more the second option. 👉 A very special profile: fruity, yes, but also olive, salt, herbs, and a palate... disturbing 🤨 There’s really something that bothers me — and it just doesn’t work at all. After the X samples and the TCRL, you could say I’m unlucky with this distillery... never two without three 😂 ❗️That said, we also have to salute: the nice 7th place of Vagabond Spirits in the RumX Top 10 best independent bottlers 🏆 👌 their always super stylish labels and this bold finish, once again a real experiment Even if it’s not my thing, you have to admit the release finds its audience when you see the feedback from other tastings.

Nice white wine touch that gives the rum a pleasant acidity and lots of green fruits (but also mango and lychee). Certainly not everyone's thing. From my point of view, a perfect companion in summer to a matured white wine, also considering the pleasant light bitterness in the finish.

Light yellow corresponding to the limited aging time in the barrel. On the nose, I primarily have sugarcane, grassy notes with mint. Also a few fruits, but not the fruit bomb described by some tasters. On the palate then olive-herbal aromas. Also wood influence and the Jurançon aroma. The finish is medium-long on the wood/herb side. Overall special and not everyone's thing. I like the uniqueness of the bottling even if the aroma is not a perfect match for me. Addendum: with air, more exotic fruit notes come through. Plus 2 points.

I bought the bottle at the GRF. The price-performance ratio is definitely top here. The cask comes through intensely and is very present. Unfortunately, the bottle was empty and I didn't do a more detailed tasting. Not for everyday drinking but interesting for in between.

On the nose, the influence of Jurançon is noticeable. Combined with a lovely scent of sugarcane and fruit, this subtle blend invites you to sip. On the palate, the alcohol is present but not overpowering. The whole is fruity and slightly oaky. A great discovery with a very good value for money.

2️⃣🦋Harmony- Guadeloupe 3 ans tropicale - Bonne mère, Mélasse- 52%, finish de 3 mois en fût ex jurançon. 👃Un nez sur la gourmandise, avec des senteurs de caramel aux beurre salés (crêpes Suzette?), des fruits tropicaux prennent la suite… 👄La bouche est en 2 étapes, la 1ere est ronde sur la gourmandise du rhum de mélasse un côté rassurant, la suite est dingue… une avalanche de fruits juteux, c’est opulent, et absolument délicieux, l’exotisme est acidulé waouuuu! J’adore cette petite note « salé » apporté par le fût de Jurançon qui amène une dimension supérieur! Très beau rhum pour 50e 🤯

Nice product as much on the nose as on the palate. Very fruity, with this unusual finish. A fresh side as well. You really feel the cask well, but without the heavy sweet side I expected coming from this late harvest cask. Successful test!

Very fruity on the nose, sweet tropical fruits, a bit minty, very pleasant and aromatic. On the palate similarly sweet fruits, mint, a hint of wood, no alcohol taste at all, fresh and quite tasty. The finish is the weakest part, with bitter citrus notes, this bitterness combined with a burning sensation spoils the effect. However, after a longer time in the finish, you mainly feel fruity sweetness that lingers on the lips and tongue. Very tasty fruity rum, with perfectly hidden alcohol, could be a bit less bitter, but other than that hard to find fault. Very good for the price.

Fruity expression of rum with wine and roasted notes. Not my cup of tea but somewhat unique. Rather fruity sweet notes on palate. Short finish. Not very complex, but same character from nose to finish. I like the design of Vagabond bottlings! Good value for monwy here.

Super DMB, very focused on fruits like mango and papaya. The alcohol is very well integrated, honestly you don't feel the 52°. On the palate, you first notice the silky texture, the roundness, then a nice acidity.

Vagabond is a French brand dedicated not only to rum. Their rums are mostly blends, but they are characterized by rather unusual and even controversial approaches - they blend rum with other types of alcohol, triple-age, try aging at sea, under the sea, in caves, aging in unusual barrels (after beer, after Jurancon white wine, from acacia, cherry, maple wood, etc.). They have very nice graphics on the bottles. New for 2025 and a very pleasant surprise, a Guadeloupe rum from the Bonne Mere distillery. I had not heard of this distillery before, yet it is supposedly the largest in Guadeloupe and Marie Galante. Rum Wonk (Matt Pietrik) has a nice article on it. The rum itself is a molasses rum, 3 years old and finished for 3 months in a Jurancon white wine cask. It's wonderfully lively and fresh on the nose with botanicals, white wine, and lots of green or sour fruit - gooseberry, currant, kiwi, passion fruit - plus a distinctive mint in the taste! Yummy, lots of music for 50e!
