The latest Velier Foursquare release and the oldest 100% tropical aging Foursquare to date. 20y incl. 1y Marsala finish naturally bring a lot of wood with them. The usual sweetness of coconut, banana, chocolate & co. takes a back seat here and is replaced by tobacco, sulphur, leather, intense roasted aromas, plus red and dark berries, black pepper, slightly burnt coconut chips and intense tannins from the Marsala wine finish. This makes it much less inviting on the nose and palate than I am used to from FS. Personally, it is too astringent for me and the alcohol is not perfectly integrated despite the "only" 55%. But this could also be due to the dominant tannins. All in all, an exciting new release but definitely not one that I would need a bottle of. I much prefer the Absolutio and Plenipotenzario in comparison! Unfortunately, my expectations were not completely met here.

A well-made Foursquare that will probably find many fans: dried fruits, wood, tannins, somewhat astringent. Reminds me again and again of light Bourbon (without their glue note). All in all: pleasing. Personally, I find the profile extremely boring though. Too smooth, no edges. The alcohol is also not so well integrated. But technically, undoubtedly well done.

Powerful and mature Foursquare with clear depth. Warm spices, vanilla and muted tropical fruit on the nose, with a noticeable woody note. Dry and structured on the palate with caramel, spice and some dark fruit, accompanied by a clearly recognizable barrel influence that is not too dominant. The alcohol carries the profile well. Overall, a strong, multi-layered bottling with serious character and good balance.

Tasted in parallel with the Equidem. Surprisingly, the Fidelitas is much fruitier on the nose, despite being aged for 6y longer. The Equidem has a completely different profile with more roasted aromas and barrel influence. The nose of the Fidelitas is overall very inviting with lots of fruit, spices, wine, pastries and also a slight floral touch. I like it very much and it reminds me (without direct comparison) a little of the Plenip. There is definitely a lot to discover here. Very balanced and palatable on the palate. Dried fruit, grapes, caramel, vanilla, coconut. Again, it's hard to believe that it has spent 20 years in a cask. All in all, a very good bottling and probably even reasonable for its age. For me personally, however, it is simply too expensive for an FS - which (surprise) does not stand out from the crowd.

Very pleasant on the nose with dark berries, red fruits and caramel. On the palate the Marsala finish mingles with the woody/cask notes, which are definitely present. All in all this bottling is very well balanced and of high quality as you would expect from Velier‘s FS bottlings. Yet for me it cannot make it into the top bracket as it lacks a distinct character to make it truely stand out from the overall high level of FS bottlings.

I'm still torn as to how I should classify this bottling. First of all, it's whining on a high level, because it's really good. Personally, I don't like the finish quite as much. It's not so dominant that it overpowers everything or is extremely present, it actually harmonizes quite well, but I'm not quite as taken by it as by Absolutio or Equidem. It wouldn't necessarily be worth it to me to have to hunt it down and stock up on a few bottles. I'd rather have another Plenipotenziario for 25€ less.

9:On the nose, wine barrel impact, dried fruits like raisins and currants, dark berries, coconut, toasted wood with burnt sugar, leather, caramel, pastry, sweet, baking spices, black tea, round, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dried apricots and grapes join, vanilla and chocolate, some glue, the molasses is flowery, sweet with hints of honey. 9:On the palate, the attack is round, balanced, fruity with tons of different fruits like dark berries, dried apricots, currants, raisins, red fruits, coconut, later citrus, oily, sweet with toasted wood notes like dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, leather, spicy with vanilla, allspice, perhaps slightly peppery, as the molasses is earthy with tobacco.Wine barrel impact is obvious. 8,8:The finish is rather long, dry&tannic, with sweet charred/toasted oak notes, spicy, smoky, pairing various fruits like tropical, berries, coconut and herbaceous, earthy molasses with cigar tobacco. I'm not really a Foursquare fan, but I quite like this bottling. Surprisingly, I notice a lot of glue at first, which gradually gives way to dark berries, vanilla and a little coconut later on. On the palate, the wood influence is noticeable, but also dark berries, dark chocolate, allspice and something roasted. This also continues in the unfortunately relatively short finish. This costs it some points.

Jakob visits Franconian Tasting Gang in Nuremberg again, always welcome. The new Foursquare Fidelitas is also poured, and I like it very much. The typical Foursquare notes, such as coconut etc. are of course there again, but take a back seat. The expected woody influence is counterbalanced by the sweet marsala cask finish. The finish is clear, but not overpowering. Everything is nicely balanced, alcohol still OK.

You can taste the extremely long tropical ageing and therefore the barrel from nose to finish. Nevertheless, various fruity aromas are omnipresent. There are also notes of red wine (a little too strong for me), vanilla and spices. Very complex and perfectly integrated alcohol!

Typical Foursquare profile, but with relatively little coconut impact, instead nice vanilla and toffee sweetness and balanced wood influence. Somewhat powerful alcohol on the palate, but the overall profile is very pleasantly balanced. The long maturation is good for the Foursquares. A very successful release.

👃 From the very first nose, there's no mistaking that this is Foursquare. Dried fruit (raisins, plums), the sweetness of fruit, a touch of cherry brandy, cooked vanilla, cooking spices, soft buttery caramel, a touch of cocoa, elegant woodiness, a slightly minty veil. A very Bas-Armagnac Baco/Ugni Blanc side, perhaps the impact of a year's finish in Marsala casks. 😋 Oh, it's rather rare to note, but I find the palate a point above the nose. Warm, inviting, comforting, the 55% reduction is perfect. We find the dried fruit of the nose seconded by a few black berries and a note of dried apricots to great effect. Spices, honey, vanilla custard, overcooked caramel, coconut, dark chocolate, woodiness a little more pronounced than on the nose, but it doesn't show its age. Nice balance of flavors. ⛳ Rather long, on peppery spices, cooked wine barrel, tannins, dark berries. Then, a herbaceous side, fresh grass, sweet tobacco leaf, leather. 💡 Very good Foursquare that combines a controlled ABV and complex aromas. It sits in the upper middle of the many Velier ABVs for the eponymous distillery. If you don't have the budget (215-240🍒) I recommend the ECS 27 Equidem, which offers a very good RQP (99-109🍒). N.B.: re-tuned, it gains +1pt, 89 to 90. It has all the features you'd expect from an excellent FS, with a finely tuned ABV.

👃 = a bold, gourmand bouquet immediately offers up candied orange and banana, hazelnut, raisin, caramel, woodiness, cinnamon, a little leather and varnish and a hint of vanilla. 👄 = a nice fat amplitude on the palate, a beautiful gourmet balance, ending on a long finish blending spices. Palate Round, fresh, oily, wood, light dried fruit, faint cherry, spice, light cinnamon, light caramel, faint orange. Finish Medium to long, wood, light roasted, banana, light cinnamon, faint caramel, light herbs. Empty glass Vanilla, light chocolate, light herbs, light orange, light berries.

Nice Foursquare in the usual high quality. The high age brings comparatively many tannins on the palate, which are well balanced or complemented by a nice, berry fruitiness. Also nice baking spices. Overall very round and balanced. For me a very good bottling, but it doesn't quite reach the FS top class for me. You can buy it well, but you don't have to because of the high price.

The Marsala becomes noticeable through deliciously sweet notes with cookies, berries, dried fruit, vanilla ... not a unique Foursquare. Not by a long shot. But still at a high level and easy to drink. You can buy it, but you don't have to.

Fruity and lovely nose of wine, grapes, berries, honey/caramel, chocolate, vanilla... Very tasty and harmonious! The palate is intense, subtly dry and spicy, dark chocolate and wood, berries and caramel. The finish is toasty, tobacco, woody, leather, bitter... where did the fruits go?! Mhm, a shame, it's missing that edge to really lift the rum up.

The cask selection suits him perfectly and fits the well-known Foursquare profile very well. The typical coconut note can be found in the taste. It is also interesting that it is very varied in the nose, as well as in the taste and finish. The finish is of medium length.

A very classic Foursquare profile, but very noble, 20 years tropical aged with a sweet wine finish in a Marsala cask. Still, it comes across quite fruity on the nose, with typical aromas of vanilla, cask influences, and light vanilla with many dark fruits. On the tongue, wine-intensive tannins and roasted aromas shape the overall picture, embedded in that FS DNA. This makes it quite edgy, the alcohol is distinct and less smoothly integrated. Over time it becomes rounder in the glass but overall falls short compared to bottlings like Absolutio or even slightly Equidem.

Each Velier-Foursquare is a little different, but all are in the higher 8s range. This one again. This time a little sweeter and fruitier, in any case very pleasing. In my opinion, better than equidem, but also much more expensive.

18-07-2025 - Rate 8.9 29-08-2025 - Rate 8.7 German Rum Festival 2025 Tasted for 2nd time. A bit better 1st time. A lof of dried fruits in nose. With oak and herbs. Palate is close to the smell. Lot of fruits and herbs. Medium finish with some oak and pepper. My favorit is still Absolutio of all the Velier/Foursquare rums.

Wow. New 2025 limited edition Foursquare 20y.o. Almost Excellent. Nose: lot of oak, dark fruits and spices. Raisin, dates, dry prunes, dry cherry's, dry figs, some vanilla & cinnamon. Humidor, leather, roasted almonds & coconut. And, of course, sweet notes, like burnt sugar, molasses, gingerbread & buckwheat honey. Taste: rich & good. Little bit sweetness, spicy and woody. Leather, beaking spices, cherry wood, Spanish cedar, cola, dark honey, dry fruits and hint of berries. Of course, polish, cinnamon, roasted almonds & sweet molasses. Aftertaste: very long, dry, tannins. Lot if oak, leather, walnuts. Even little bit of rubber. Cigar tobacco, humidor, cola and baking apples. Conclusion: it's again great rum. I wanna more complex flavors and taste, to give it excellent, but it's still amazing.

Immediately after the pour, the typical sweet notes of coconut, banana, vanilla, caramel develop, but quickly fade into the background and strong notes of dried fruit, light leathery mustiness and, most importantly, red wine notes with spiciness and wood emerge. Surprisingly fruity for twenty years in barrel and the wood does not dominate. The taste corresponds nicely with the aroma, strong notes of dried fruit, coconut, wine, wood, plus milk chocolate. Nice balance of winey acidity, coconut sweetness and dry spiciness and woodiness. A pleasant 55%. Top FSQ, definitely top 5 for me.

Unexpectedly soft and round, and complexity grows every so subtly the longer it’s in the glass. The Marsala cask introduces a nuanced soft sweetness which is delicious! Ultimately this is a standout release from Foursquare. Difficulty in finding this bottle retail was a challenge, but I was fortunate enough to grab a bottle before it inevitably becomes too expensive on the secondary market.

Wow, that's an interesting FQ. There's a lovely smell of age and wood in the aroma and actually in the blank I wouldn't guess FQ but the hints are there. In the taste it's beautifully sweet and madeira smells a lot but not disturbingly so:) at the same time medium length finish with typical wood.

This is 20y aged Velier Foursquare release, full of wood combined with fruits, rather complex for Foursquare, despite bit lower ABV ot is rather rich on palate, one of the best Foursquare bottlings I have tasted, very good for me!

A really smooth, harmonious, round Foursquare that is a lot of fun. In addition to the usual notes and some fruity sweetness, there are tannic notes with a slightly astringent effect in the finish - almost like red wines with a "furry feeling". This is probably due to the finish - a touch too much of it for me, but overall a beautifully smooth FS.

Rounded and incredible drinkable. A sweet and somewhat sickly nose for a Foursquare with honey and honeysuckle alongside caramel and dusting of baking spices. Mouth is a little more one dimensional, oily with vanilla and red fruit. Finish is medium with back tone of spice with a slightly herbal and allspice edge and cracked black pepper crown. Not up there with the best but very solid

Among the top five rums I've ever had so far, probably the best Bajan at last. Every time I take a sip I'm reassured that my high rating is justified and not mere hype. I would even rate this slightly above Absolutio. Close to perfection.

Fantastic aromas of dried fruit, red berries, raisins, vanilla, and caramel. The taste continues with dried fruits of a heavier character, wine, wood, dark chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. There is also a hint of pepperiness. Very tasty!
