Cihuatán Cinabrio Ron 12 Años
The big surprise here is orange — bright mandarin and orange peel run right through it, backed by vanilla, toffee and a little cinnamon. For a 12-year rum, though, a lot of tasters find it thin, and the 40% alcohol can poke through unintegrated. Give the fruit time in the glass and it opens up nicely, but the sweetness stays present throughout.

How does Cihuatán Cinabrio Ron 12 Años taste?
Aggregated from 188 community reviews.
Orange-forward, sweet, a bit thin for 12 years Pleasant orange-and-caramel sipper that splits opinion: some call it balanced and easy, others find it watery, alcoholic and flat for its age. The added sweetness is always there.

Not just an older Cihuatan Indigo, but with its own character. Here come orange, dark wood notes and heavy sweetness. The orange becomes very oily and chewy on the palate while a certain spice is added that harmonizes and binds fantastically with the alcohol. The finish is dark wood and chocolate, good and subtle sweetness throughout. Really good! Addendum: Especially the fruit notes like super ripe mango & pineapple need some time to develop. When they get the orange becomes much fresher and more intense and loses the bitterness.

Not a very good rum. Kinda flat and harsh (even at low ABV of 40%). Unnatural sweetness and poorly balanced. Some artificial orange i think, and maybe a bit sweet candy (toffee?). This was the Cihuatan i liked least on the tasting.

A wonderful discovery, with a surprising hint of grenadine. An ultra beginner's rum.

My first Cihuatán, to be honest my impressions are pretty mixed. A lot of citruses on notes. On palate the sweetness is quite significant and caramel and cinnamon tones. Finish is rather short with citruses. Anyway an interesting tasting.

Quite alcoholic. Some vanilla, cinnamon.

I admit I don't smell much besides citrus. The taste is quite original and fresh mix of orange and tangerine. The sweetness is acceptable. Such an unpretentious drink as an aperitif after lunch or for a visitor. In the end, quite a pleasant surprise. Edit: I'm finishing the sample and I don't need to change anything either

On the nose, vanilla, coconut, a hint of barrel, pineapple. On the palate, very smooth with vanilla, something sweet like toffee and mandarin. A very smooth sipper with a short finish. A safe choice for a beginner rum sipper.

Strange, I feel almost nothing on the nose apart from alcoholic spiciness. The taste is then quite sweet, woody but apart from that really nothing special to avoid. Unfortunately only had one sample, would have liked to try it again.

I can imagine him well to drizzle on pastries or desserts.

Sample no.11 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2022. Tropical fruits with caramel and orange on the nose. Fruity and sweet palate, a little bit oily and light in the notes, elegant.
Review by Wagnerlicious
Wieder viel Karamell, Zitrusnoten, etwas Holz. Insgesamt keine Offenbarung. Intensive Lmettennote im Nachklang.

Ahhoz képest, hogy 40%, kilógott az alkohol.

Unfortunately there is a lot of musty basement in the nose that distracts the initial nosing. The palate is more like a raisin sugary rum that is again like those countless others. Very alcoholic in the end. That costs some points.
