Cave Guildive Hampden Jamaica DOK 2018
Nail polish, glue and overripe banana hit first, then the PX sherry cask softens everything with dried apricot, raisin and a bit of marzipan. This is a Hampden DOK that's been tamed: the funk is there but reined in. Several tasters call it surprisingly easy-drinking for a DOK, with black pepper and roasted wood on a long, dry finish.

Un nez plus frais qu’attendu, même si les esters sont bien présents. Fruits tropicaux légèrement fermentés, fruits jaunes. Le bois est en soutient. On sent la douceur du fût de sherry mais elle est ici complémentaire. Le sherry adoucit la bouche et les esters y sont moins prononcés qu’au nez. Un petit côté poivré relève le côté doux du sherry. La bouche est pleine, savoureuse, même si la complexité n’est pas au top. La finale est longue, équilibrée entre les fruits secs, le boisé, les esters et les fruits frais. Une très belle sélection de la Cave Guildive.

8,3:On the nose, esters and nail polish, glue, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, some citrus fruits, briny olive, roasted wood notes, spicy, sweet with marzipan, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the red fruits are slightly rotten, so a bit pungency breaks out, sherry finish is obvious with various dried fruits like apricots and raisins, new roasted notes with nuts, pastry. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters, fruity with overripe tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, red and citrus fruits, the molasses brings briny olive, as the wood is roasted, sweet with pastry, roasted nuts, caramel, spicy with black pepper and ginger, sherry finish brings also dried, candied fruits. As some of the fruits are slightly rotten, pungency arises. 8,4:The finish is long, dry, less balanced, but creamy with roasted wood notes, slightly smoky and spicy, oaky, esters are still present, the molasses is vegetal, grassy, the fruits citrus, dried and tropical. nach dem 9GRF SBS ein weiter 2018 DOK mit PX finish, nun allerdings schon 6 Jahre im Fass statt der 1,5. Neben den vergorenen Früchten an der Nase auch eine süssliche Würze. Am Gaumen erstaunlich zupackend, trotz der ‚nur‘ 54%. Gefällt mir ganz gut, fast schon süffig für einen DOK 😄

Sherry Finish und niedriger ABV, ich hatte schlimmeres befürchtet und was soll ich sagen. Ich bin enttäuscht worden, die Abfüllung gefällt mir gut, sehr süffig für einen DOK. Könnte ich mir sogar eine Flasche von holen.

Im Grunde genommen nicht schlecht für einen so "jungen" DOK. Meines Erachtens fehlt mir hier aber ein wenig der Kick bei dieser Abfüllung. Die typischen Marker sind vorhanden, aber mir fehlt der 100% Funk leider.

Angenehmer Hampden, die Fruchtnoten sind in der Nase erwartbar präsent, am Gaumen kommt das Sherry-Fass angenehm temperierend ins Spiel - die Trockenfruchtaromen sind präsent, aber ohne zu überlagern. Unter den Hampden mit PX-Finish ein angenehmer Vertreter.

Dok and a sherry cask is a potential for disaster, because as it is here the sherry cask really tones down the dock a lot. BUT, I think it works here rather nicely. In terms of drink ability this gains a lot. Well done
