Blind, I would never have guessed St. Lucia here – the flavor profile actually reminds me of a classic British-style column still rum with a few years of aging in ex-bourbon barrels near Barbados or Belize: lots of oak influence, showing rich vanilla and caramel notes. On the palate, there’s a bit of spiciness. Overall, quite easy-drinking, but I find it lacks complexity.

Surprisingly weak for a Lucia . It's a good rum, but rather boring, lacking the typical spicy glue Lucia DNA.

Looking at column SLDs: Rhum Attitude, Berry Bros, Perola. RA and BB are very column forwards. While both are nice rums, this style does not provide the profile I enjoy from SLD‘s pot stills. If you are a fan of Foursquare and similar profiles, this is for you. Very good rums without a doubt, just not my favorite out of Saint Lucia. Perola: while not a fan of Port finishes usually, this one is nicely executed. Yet it is very much overwhelming the profile (which I supsect is just not very powerful on its own, akin to the both other column bottlings). Nice bottling. Nothing I do gravitate to, however.

I will probably never understand why SLD bottles so many column still single casks when there are so many, much better pot still casks. This one here is really one of the weakest, due to both the somewhat thin mouthfeel and the slightly sulfurous finish. Overall, still a very decent rum with great alcohol integration, but for the money, St. Lucia has soooo much more to offer.
