At a gentler 49.2% the wood governs everything, and you have to like bitterness to get on with it. Long, spicy finish that most owners rate highly. This rhum was bottled 10 years after the legendary 1999 Bally. It will not become a legend, but it is delicious. A Bally easy sipper that will nevertheless demand a great deal of wood and bitter aroma tolerance from its tasters. I'm really looking forward to the ratings. Agricole inexperienced tasters may be in for a nasty surprise here.

Spicy on the nose.... Cherry, allspice and wood ... Floral notes ... Does not seem coherent. On the palate sour cherry fresh wood, black tea... lots of please notes. Not really mine ..... Medium finish and somewhat dry. Not bad but nothing you really need.

#5745 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. Yet another pretty nice Brut de Fut from Bally. I have a few of these and they're really nice and carry more power than the standard range. Nice warm/spicy palate with well integrated wood and ABV.

Smooth Agricole with a relatively low ABV. The typical Agricole notes of herbs and hay, but also sour cherry and a little cocoa. Not a top Agricole but a good friend for a relaxed evening!

8,4:On the nose, soap is a note bumping in our nosetrils, herbaceous and flowery sugarcane with a tea, yellow fruits and slightly roasted wood with chocolate, nuts and spicy with cinnamon. On aeration, more fruits reveal themselves like cherry, raisins and citrus, more roasted wood notes like butterscotch, leather, as cane brings hay. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is tasty with herbaceous, grassy and flowery sugarcane, tannins and soap, slightly bitter, resinous wood, spicy with nutmeg, pepper, cinnamon and vanilla, faint fruits with citrus. After resting the rum, a wave of green, yellow fruits and currants pop out, earthy cane honey with black tea. 8,2:The finish is long and tannic, dry, herbaceous, grassy and earthy sugarcane with black tea, the fruits are yellow, citrus with some orange, bergamot and also banana, raspberry, as the wood is spicy and slightly roasted. A cask strength with a relatively low proof compared to other bottlings where throughout the tasting notes of damp forest wood stand out, a spicy part that reminds me of winter oven scents, and a pleasant fruity part! Definitely not my preferred profile but a good bottling where the very long finish surprises and where the best flavors of this rum are released!

Rhum agricole is about average, with wood and spices dominating a little, but there's some fruitiness on the nose, with dried fruit becoming more bitter on the palate, like black cherry and orange zest. A little more alcohol in this brut de fût would perhaps have given it a little more length.

An insanely great and intense nose, just as I imagine a long tropically matured Agricole! Cinnamon, cherry, bitter orange peel, allspice, sandalwood, something and leather polish. Intense notes of bitter orange and bergamot, spicy fresh allspice, Earl Grey tea and accompanied by intense tannins. Pleasantly woody. The cask strength of "only" 49.2% is definitely understandable here. Every drop is incredibly dense, elegant, concentrated and intense. A really good and unusual bottling with typical Bally markers. Surprisingly fair price. You have to be prepared for the bitter though. Definitely depends on your mood on the day! 😃

Tasted at RhumFest Paris 2025. I found it wiser than its predecessors from 2004 and 2007. Big presence of bitterness and citrus. Lower alcohol content, but not disturbing for me. Pretty cool.

Super fruity, especially the combination of cherry, tea, and fine spices makes it so interesting. With water, leather and orange come through. A great complexity, I really like it.

Definitely a high level, a very good Agricole! To me it is a bit unbalanced, on one hand a lot of wood in the finish, on the other hand floral notes, in between nice red fruits.

Wow, what a great smell! It's been a long time since I spent so much time dissecting the aromas of a Martinique rum. Lots of wood (normal for a Bally), spices galore, vanilla, licorice, coffee beans, milk chocolate, nuts, prunes and dried apricots, waxed furniture... It's so complex and harmonious! Masterful! The palate is very smooth despite the strong proof, and again this complexity! More refined wood, tobacco, roasted cocoa bean, candied yellow fruits, roasted almonds. Everything is ample, tasty, balanced. The finish is long, warm, on wood and spices. This is a very great rum for a very reasonable purchase price.

The nose is shy but consistent, with chocolate, burnt sugar, spices, light leather and dried fruit. On the palate notes of wood, lots of pepper (which takes away roundness), floral, dried fruit, citrus. The finish is medium, delicate and tending to dry, but the pepper echoes for a long time. 👃 Dried fruits, citrus and red fruits (prunes, grapes, oranges and bitter cherries), wood spices (clove, cinnamon, light vanilla). Light caramel. Slightly herbaceous with a bit of tea leaves. The sugarcane is present but relatively in the background. The bitter wood has supplanted the distillate. 😋 The cherries and citrus are bitter. Lots of wood spices (cinnamon, clove, pepper). Tannic side, wet wood. Also herbaceous, light tea. Quite a bit of bitterness from the fruits and a sensation of alcohol too present which however does not sufficiently energize the aromas on the palate. ⛳ Rather short compared to the alcohol level and this kind of agricultural profile. Wood, tea and spices dominant, fruitiness oscillating between candied and bitter. 💡 After several tastings, I am still not totally convinced by this 2009 selection from Bally. It's good, but not beyond for me.

A nose of sandalwood, spices, leather, almond, slightly buttery and soapy. Little or no fruit (perhaps a little bitter orange). On the palate, typical Bally woodiness comes first. Bitter cherry, tea and leather follow. For a brut de fut, this falls back a little quickly on the palate... the finish is short. A pleasant release, but nothing exceptional. Rather low ABV.

Initially quite woody on the nose, but opens up to lovely ripe and sweet fruits, accompanied by a very pleasant patina (wax and varnish), a bit "dirty" too (the kind of woodiness found on some Caroni, without being extreme!), a bit of warm brioche that adds a lot of indulgence. The palate is a bit watery/reduced on the first sips, but shows nice indulgence on a well-aged wood, a bit tannic, which quickly opens to juicy fruits, spices, and a nice pastry side. Quite faithful to the nose in the end. The finish is quite long on a red fruit syrup/grenadine, cinnamon, and vanilla. A slight astringency sets in over time, encouraging another sip! Really very very good!

Nose is intriguing, not particularly complex but herbs and cherry with a woody backbone. The mouth is woody with some pepper and herbs. Finish is long with bergamot, orange peel and some more tea. Complex but not particularly over the top. Enjoyed it, pushing a 8.5

Convincing nose but very square, powerful mouth and alcohol well integrated by the viscous body, the wood dominates the aromas, making it sterile in aromas... Pity.

This j.bally shows more of its bitter side. That's interesting but the flavor notes sour cherry and cinnamon don't really suit my taste. Alcohol also bites a bit too much for me.
