#6790 14.05.2026 Running a few extra samples while watching a Danish Police TV Series. Surprisingly good rum with nice sweetness, nutts, roasted wood, chocolate, fruits, tobacco, light tar and some herbs.

7,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is a bit rigid with spicy, roasted wood notes like dark chocolate, nuts, vanilla, sweet with burnt sugar, caramel. On aeration, vegetal, herbaceous and slightly metallic patina arises, dried and citrus fruits, smoky wood with leather, cardboard, molasses with tobacco. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is sweet, creamy with roasted wood notes like caramelized burnt sugar, nutty, smoky and leathery, spicy and salty, fruity with dried apricots, raisins, cherry and grapefruit...Molasses helps with tobacco... 8:The finish is medium long, dry and tannic, spicy, with sweet roasted notes leading the tones, followed by dried fruits... 1. Panama Crowned Lorikeet 15yo. Alcohol poorly integrated. Already sharp on the nose, then just some licorice and grassy sweetness of alcohol. The finish is flat as a board and unpleasantly metallic at the end. 50 points. 2. Panama Tahitian Lory: much better than the first. Burnt sugar, vanilla, a bit sharp and sweet-sour on the palate. Chocolaty. The finish is warm. Good rum, fun to drink. 77 points. 3. Nectar 16yo Panama: Very chocolaty with dates and caramelized figs. Very sweet and a bit smoky. Extremely easy to drink stuff! Towards the finish, the sweetness increases even more. Warm pleasant roasted and cherry aromas keep playing around the tasting. 77 points. 4. Panama Varela Hermanos RCS: The nose is quite boring and reminds of a better version of the first tasted in this series. On the palate similarly unspectacular, sweet, young wood, some yellow fruits. The alcohol is relatively well integrated. Like rum no. 1, just better. 66 points.

I don't know what to make of this. Typical Panama, lots of vanilla and (dark) chocolate, but also slightly woody and spicy. But I just find the alcohol is too poorly integrated, which prevents a better rating.
