Ultra-pleasing on the nose, orange, peach, generally great yellow fruits. You can literally smell the oily texture. Alcohol? What alcohol? Warm and indeed oily on the palate, but also nicely astringent. Fruit aromas from the nose continue, later a certain bitter note is added. Alcohol? What alcohol? 😉 Conclusion: Coin connoisseurs really can't go wrong with this . A sweet tropical dream on the nose, solid on the palate.

On aeration, the rum is round, molasses brings hay, hints of chamomile, flowery, herbaceous touch, some spice join like ginger, allspice, smoky tones with bacon, dairy and cream toffee, caramelized tones. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is funky with esters, nail polish, buttery with cream, sweet with honey, toasted wood with cookie dough, pastry, slightly smoky, spicy with vanilla, fruity with fermented tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, mango, maracuja, citrus and red fruits, as the molasses is grassy, herbaceous, vegetal with briny olive. 8,7:The finish long, dry&tannic, warm with toasted oak, smoky, spicy, fruity with fermented tropical, citrus and green fruits, dairy and earthy molasses, dark with black tea.. Let's go Lipo, you're doing it (Tour de France). Simultaneously the best of the day. Awesome Hampden. As usual, lots of tropical fruit (pineapple and banana), as well as esters on the nose and palate. An absolute grenade.

Jamaica, how we like it. Intense, strong, esters. Nose: Esters with lots of marzipan and pineapple. Pleasant glue and varnish, plus fresh lemon, mandarin and the sweetness of light, liquid honey. All very rounded and the almost 66% hardly hurts. 8.8 Palate: whoa, here the %% hurt more. Very intense with lots of esters, but none of the usual buttery vinegar aromas. Much more it is very acid-driven. It really tingles. The acid that makes the rum taste almost bitter-metallic-salty becomes noticeably bacon-like at the back. Fruit is also there, lemon and lime peel with kumquat or mandarin and pineapple. Actually too acid-heavy for me. 8.2

Great fruity fresh nose with lots of ester power, neat solvent and nail polish 😁 Nice Anna's banana honeydew melon papaya and some olive . Alcohol barely noticeable on the nose . Nice mouthfeel on the palate fills the mouth nicely with tropical fruits and esters ... Relatively little woodiness at the beginning some acidity . Then comes the typical bitterness towards the finish ... I'm really looking forward to the Mai Tai.

A great fruity Hampden with funky esters, tropical fruits, caramel, vanilla and cookies. In the finish, the acidity and saltiness increases slightly in the form of green apples and citrus fruits. Bigger sips are spicier and remind me of NY 2009 bottlings with their cookie dough.

Palate Oily, fruity, overripe, pineapple, spice, light wood, light roasted, light caramel, ester, light glue. Finish Long, balanced, naturally sweet, oily, light wood, spice, fruity, light citrus, light caramel. Empty glass Vanilla, light chocolate, light banana, light glue.

Pure glue and esters on the nose, which are intense but not pungent. First of all, exactly what makes a good Hampden rum. The taste is also a real ester bomb with lots of pineapple. Light wood notes come into play, especially in the finish. Alcohol very well integrated.

A nice amount of esters and glue on the nose, but pleasantly round. Very typical Hampden tropical fruitiness on the palate with plenty of power, although the 66% is well integrated here. There are also sweet pastry notes here. An interesting package and a successful release that almost calls for a second tasting.

When you open the sample, the typical Hampden aromas of the <>H immediately flood in...wonderful...it lasts for a while. Gradually, subtle nuances of vanilla and marzipan can also be perceived. On the palate, there is initially a distinctive sweetness, which is quickly replaced by esters, young wood and spice (allspice, ginger). It is astringent on the tongue and in the throat. The spice and young wood linger on the finish.

Very fruity on the nose, tropical fruits, pineapple, wood, nail polish/solvent and a pleasant sweetness. On the palate then very fruity intense, pineapple, fermented fruit basket, wood, something funky, with a slight sweetness and some esters. In any case, super fair value for money, considering that it is 11 years old and comes from Hampden. The 65% are super well integrated.

Wonderfully fruity attack, honey sweetness, pineapple, banana and a hint of olive. On the palate also nice fruity sweetness, a little honeydew melon joins in. Good, slightly dry woody notes with lots of ester. The finish is intense and very long. The only drawback is the slight spiciness (peppery) at the end. Otherwise very good barrel selection.

Another Hampden from 2014 after a long time, probably a latecomer after last year's huge flood. In my opinion, a solid bottling, as expected. The vintage is probably of a fairly high quality, but doesn't break out of memory.

Verdict: lovely rum, high in esters but not overpowering. There is creamy, wood, spice and of course quite some fruit! 87 points. Palate: well-integrated and complex nose. Yes, it has esters, but relatively mildly for such a glass, mainly nailpolish remover. Pencil shavings, yellow fruit: pineapple, a bit of banana, kumquat, peach. Then toasted wood and a hint of baking spice, and olive. Palate: drying, but nicely. Quite orange and kumquat driven, with some banana, nailpolish, vanilla custard, roasted, wood, olive and a pinch of salt. Finish: dry, spicy, and again well-balanced. Ester, fruit, wood, some cream and enough spice and brine.

A wonderful funky smell with lots of esters and a rich fruit bouquet comes rushing at you. This is reflected in the taste as well with a wonderful cookie dough, rounded off by vanilla. Super long warm finish. A great and typical Jamaican.

The smell doesn't skimp on appealing fruit esters and really makes you want the first sip. This develops after an initially very intense and astringent ester punch over fermented lime into a wonderful, overripe tropical fruit bomb, to finally also offer a buttery-sweet marzipan-vanilla-cookie dough combination with hardly noticeable alcohol content. Great cask selection!

Man, what an explosion of aromas, incredible. It’s fun from the first second. As soon as the bottle opens, the barrage starts. Esters, varnish, fruits, wood, pineapple, bam, bam, bam. Same game on the palate, diverse finish. Great!!

Side-by-side of ten recent-ish 2014 <>H bottlings: On the nose the bottlings are pretty much on a comparable level. RumClub and Family Ricci take the crown today, showing a bit more fruitiness relatively speaking. Overall the bottlings with some reduction provide noticably less intensity. I prefer the higher/full proof bottlings here. Again, on the palate the factor to set the different bottlings apart comes down to fruitiness and alcohol integration. Among the lower ABV bottlings the V&M Star(h)um takes the crown with TWJ coming in second. The difference in ABV is even more pronounced on the palate with the full proof version clearly ahead. Overall winner here is the RumClub, followed by Family RIcci again. Most balanced with lots of funk yet also a good amount of cask impact and good alcohol integration. All in all non of the bottlings is bad in any way. There are only minute differences in the bottlings and the winner might change on another day. I‘m very curious to see how the vintage will develop over time - assuming we‘ll see some more bottlings in the coming years.

Powerful Hampden with intense ester fruit, primarily pineapple, banana and fermented tropical fruits. Also solvent notes, a slight herbal touch and some vanilla. On the palate explosive, very dense and challenging, with sweetish fruit, spicy accents and a lasting warmth. The finish is long and characterized by funk and wood, but remains harmonious enough not to feel overloaded. An impressive example of the Hampden profile with lots of power.

Schöne fruchtige Nase, wie man sie von einem mittelalten <>H gewohnt ist und wie sie sein muss. Am Gaumen kommt er zunächst einigermaßen bitter daher, dann schlägt der Fruchtkorb zu, daneben etwas Lack oder Klebstoff und immer eine dezente Bitterkeit im Hintergrund. Der Alkohol ist brutal gut eingebunden, die über 60% spürt man quasi nicht. Trotzdem macht er für meinen Geschmack mit etwas Wasser noch mehr auf, dann kommen auch eine Marzipan-Note und eine leichte Salzigkeit dazu. Der Abgang könnte für meinen Geschmack noch etwas länger sein. Im Endeffekt für mich ein gelungener, schnörkelloser und runder <>H, dem für meinen Geschmack aber irgendwie das gewisse Etwas fehlt.

Second dram after Lent and I have to say that I am absolutely not disappointed. Immediately after pouring, the room is filled with the typical fruity, estery Jamaica Hampden aromas. The positive impression continues very well on the palate. Slightly sour and sweet pineapple tones dance on the tongue. The alcohol content of 65.6% is perfectly integrated and very pleasant to drink. In summary, a very good RC release!

Wow! I'm actually not a Hampden fan - I totally agree with Gunnar, the alcohol is extremely well integrated and you won't find any alcoholic sharpness at all. Blind, I would have assumed a consistently tropical aging - The always same Hampden pineapple is exceptionally in the background here and shares the stage with mango, papaya and maracuja and this tropical woodiness, without being bitter. Really great cask!!!

Extremely successful Hampden. Already when pouring, the whole room fills with a dominant fruit and ester note. The alcohol is surprisingly well integrated for over 65%. The positive impression continues in the taste. I taste tropical fruits with sweet honey. The finish is very long. Hats off for this great bottling!

Time to taste and review these Rum Club samples before the Rumfestival in Berlin. On the nose: First impressions are how balanced this is and how the high abv is integrated perfectly. Esthers, overripe pineapples and typical Jamaican rum notes are there, but without being overly dominant. This more of a food mixture of tropical fruits. I absolutely loved this. Taste: Oily mouthfeel at first. Again the high abv is integrated perfectly. Esters, tropical fruits like papaya, but now i start to get woody notes too. Fermented notes. There are some hobey elements towards the end and maybe pastries. Finish: Fermented, esther and woody notes at first. Little bit of citrus notes. Warm mouthfeel. Gets very dry at the end. Offers much better range of flavours than the Jamaican rums that i have tasted to far.

In der Nase sofort üppige Esternoten, Nagellack und Lösungsmittel. Mit etwas Zeit und Luft kommen Aromen wie Ananas, Banane und Honig durch. Beim ersten Schluck setzt sofort Speichelfluss ein. Auch hier wieder Ananas und Banane in überreifer bis vergorener Form. Dazu etwas Honig und Buttergebäck. Der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden. Der Abgang ist wärmend und hat eine leichte Pfeffrigkeit oder Ingwerschärfe. Insgesamt bleibt er aber kürzer als ich es bei dem Estherlevel und Alkoholgehalt erwartet hätte.

A very good <>H. Very concentrated on the nose and intense and powerful on the palate. The finish is very long and dry. That's fun. The high ABV is also well integrated. It also shows a nice complexity for a <>H and the barrel influence is on point. Definitely one of the better <>H 2014 bottlings. I like it very much.

Overall impression: An absolutely authentic Jamaican that bridges pure power and delicate complexity. Anyone looking for the typical Hampden profile will find it here – and without compromise. Nose: Immediate presence of "Funk." Intense ester notes, a certain sweetness and ripe fruits. Along with a fine glue note and some olive brine, giving the nose a nice depth. Palate: The 53% vol. is perfectly chosen. The rum has enough punch to carry the aromas across the tongue but barely burns. The balance between fruit and the dirty "industrial note" is excellently achieved. Conclusion: For me, an absolute price-value winner within the Rumclub series. It is more accessible than some Great House rums but never loses its wild character. A must for fans of continental-aged Jamaicans.

Hab heute im Rum Depot in Berlin die Ed. 53 mit dem Valinch&Mallet Sta(r)um selben Jahrgangs quer verkostet. Die Nase ist bei beiden vielversprechend aber am Gaumen liefert die Ed. 53 deutlich mehr ab. Das der V&M rund 10%Punkte weniger Alkohol hat schmeckt man nicht ohne weiteres raus. Was auch für die Ed. 53 spricht. Insgesamt eine klare Empfehlung von mir!
