Very nice VSOP. The aroma fills the room. A very complex nose, with fruit, wood and chocolate. The impression continues in the mouth. The finish is long, somewhat bitter and dry. A very nice Rhum Agricole.

HSE Réserve Spéciale VSOP is just 4-years old an is aged in bourbon oak barrels. The nose is warm, rich, sweet, spicy, fruity and woody with an aroma of vanilla. At the palate the aroma from the nose is persistent with the woodyness dominating. The finish is long with everything persistent with the woodyness and dryness dominating.

A beautiful HSE Reserve Speciale with 45%. It really surprised me in a positive way. Beautiful nose consisting of wood, spices and vanilla. The palate is also woody, but it's very spicy here too, with vanilla and chocolate adding a little sweetness. Really okay.

This VSOP from HSE is also good: more discreet nose with chocolate, wood and caramelized fruit. In the mouth, the woody profile continues, adding spicy and earthy notes. Roasty coffee and chocolate on the finish to wood and spice and some sweet caramel.

Easy drinking rum that can suit many people, even non-initiates in agricultural rum. Round scents and flavors of woody caramel choco vanilla with a peppery touch. Average finish, but just as pleasant.

Very well matured Agricole. Anyone who smokes cigars will love this rum. Doesn't really taste like matured agricole at first. Quite woody and spicy, few grassy notes.

A very pleasant VSOP rum. Woody, spicy and fruity notes blend well together. The palate continues in the same vein, very supple and smooth. The same spicy, fruity and woody notes return on the finish. A good reference for VSOPs.

On the nose, subtle caramel, fruits, and chocolate. On the palate, its strong, spicy taste of oak, wood, and vanilla unfolds. The alcohol is very present and it tastes much less sweet than the nose suggests.

Very good and very tasty VSOP. HSE has become very active in the field of “special casks” like port, sherry etc and I enjoy returning to the origins of this venerable brand. Lots of oak barrels this time. Lots of taste, not too tamed but not too wild either, despite the young age. A very good blend that also makes an excellent ti-punch (important consideration in this segment of agricole aged but not too much). Versatile bottle, as good in cocktails as for direct tasting. Not tested yet but it is very likely that this one will make a splash in a Donga Punch.

Rhum Fest Paris 2026 - blind tasting 2 Nose was more promising than the palate. Everyone guessed this was a HSE, but it's not among the best ones the distillery has to propose. It lacks depth and complexity.

I had never had the chance to taste this VSOP from HSE. I particularly like the HSE touch. On this VSOP, there are already beautiful wood notes evolving towards coffee and leather in the finish, without ever losing discreet fruits and a roundness that makes it easy to drink. No big surprise, you know what to expect but it's good and well made.

Habitation Saint Etienne VSOP special reserve. A rum I particularly appreciate for its fruitiness Nose: quite discreet at first needing time to express itself. Fresh cane is present with a characteristic hint of Martinique terroir pepper. A delicate woodiness wrapped in vanilla. On the second nose, there is apricot, very sweet and tangy, with a brioche bread with grilled almonds, toasted, in the background. Its 45° tickle the nostrils without attacking them. Very pleasant. The mouth brings a lot of freshness on this cane juice still very present despite 4 to 5 years in cask. Then follows the warmth of the very well integrated alcohol. There is always this well-marked peppery spiciness. It is very marked on yellow fruits (apricot, peach) which follow a delicate almond at the end of the mouth. The finish is smooth, reasonably long without excess. The very light woodiness takes back its place on a throat background still marked by this fruit acidity.

Positively surprised by this rum. For the price a good entry-level agricole, with which you probably can't go wrong. Not overwhelming, not too grassy and not too woody. What sounds a bit boring to me is actually a quite decent standard bottling that I somehow like!

Its nose is lively with candied fruits: apricots, peach, melon, then come notes of roasted almond, salted butter caramel and clove. The mouth is superb and confirms the nose: a broad and warm attack admirably coats the palate. Its softness and viscosity further enhance my long finish of this vintage. Source: HSE

An interesting Agricole. Orange and vanilla on the nose. Mouth wise it is interesting as well with more peppery and floral notes ending in a short but pleasant finish with sweeter coconut and caramel elements. It’s a well made rum but is just missing something A less enjoyable finish for HSE to my tastes

Great VSOP agricole. The best part is in the taste where it gives a round body with well integrated alcohol that shows notable cask influence. It is less fruity than the Depaz VSOP tried in comparison. The HSE has a darker profile but still full of fruit as well. The finish does not give any surprises but is a showcase of balance.

Excellent impression right from the nose with notes of toasted vanilla, caramelized and an elegant woody aspect. On the palate, all these notes of vanilla desserts and caramel with a nice finesse. The alcohol is present but well integrated, it is not soft and not at all aggressive. On the finish, we keep this roasted woody side with the aftertaste of a well-roasted coffee. The saliva rises and you want to dive back in!
