Joh. Eggers Sohn & Co. Eggers Original Alter Echter Batavia Arrac
Sip this neat at 58% and it hits like a "St. Lucia daiquiri" — one taster's words — big, oily and unmistakably arrack. Iodine and smoke lead, then peach, orange peel, butterscotch and overripe yellow fruit, with saffron and green pepper on the vegetal side. Several members call it one of the better arracks they've tried; a few find the finish turns soapy and dirty.

Summarized by AI from 12 community reviews.
Oily, iodine-heavy Batavia arrack for the curious Regarded by fans as an arrack that finally drinks like a proper rum, loud and oily. The catch: iodine and a dirty finish split the room, and it's strong.

This is how Batavia Arrack should taste. Green pepper, saffron, rose petals, orange blossoms, burnt sugar, overripe papaya, mandarin peel and bitter orange, incense, and a generally very pleasant, very intense, complex and oily mouthfeel!

Once again an outstanding tasting that Artur organized superbly. Many thanks for the introduction to the world of Arra(c)ks. The blends are truly a challenge for the taste buds. But what really surprised me was this BASF bottling. My deepest respect for the time and effort that is always put into it. A real honor to be able to participate in such tastings again and again.

Arra(c)k 2.0 tasting by Artur. A rum nose at last! Lively, lemony, with a hint of sweetness (cookies) and candy. Varnished wood. The entry is intense with yellow fruit, apple, lemon zest, overripe fruit, saffron and iodine. The finish is moderately long, with woody bitterness. The saffron and spices are more pronounced. At last, a rum-like arrack.

Arrac(k)-Tasting 2.0 by Artur. An exciting tasting journey with an impressive range of styles and profiles. Everything from smoky to fruity to spicy was represented – sometimes a bit unbalanced, sometimes surprisingly round. Especially some bottlings showed a lot of character and depth and stayed in memory. A format that’s really fun. Thanks Artur for the opportunity! 😊

Very expressive iodine note. Too much dirt towards the end.

Jodine, peach, yellow fruit, dirty. I like it! Arra(c)k Attack 2.0 tasting with Artur all over the place, from really nasty blends to surprisingly good examples, everything included. Great journey to this spirit completely unknown to me until now.

Arrack 2.0 @Artur: Initially fruity, iodine, unfortunately a bit soapy and musty on the finish.
