T.D.L Planteray One Time Limited Edition Trinidad TDL 2003
Anyone curious about Trinidad's TDL 2003 vintage should start here — it's the easy way in. Loud mint, menthol and eucalyptus lead, backed by yellow stone fruit (peach, pear, mirabelle), light oak and a faint medicinal, tobacco edge. At 47.8% it drinks soft and fresh; big sips go down fast. Several tasters wish it were bottled stronger, and the finish runs a touch short and dry.

Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Fresh minty Trinidad, easy 22-year sipper Loved as the price-to-quality find of the year and a friendly entry to TDL. Classic mint-menthol-fruit profile; the main gripe is the reduced strength and a shortish, oaky-dry finish.

A distillate matured to perfection with an exquisite aroma structure. Thanks to the alcohol strength, nothing remains hidden; rather, all nuances are revealed in magnificent form: mint and eucalyptus provide fresh and cooling notes, tropical fruits offer the entire spectrum from young citrus to fully ripe sweet flavors, and the barrel contributes harmonious vanilla, caramel, and subtle spice notes. It would have been exciting to try this rum at full strength—but what made it into the glass is convincing across the board. Excellent, top-notch sipping.

Convinces with a sensational price-performance ratio. Despite being noticeably diluted, the rum is comparatively complex. Despite the expected mint/menthol and euchalyptus notes, it offers beautiful aromas of citrus fruits, light spice and subtle oak, which unfold unexpectedly harmoniously. I like it very much, as it shows more depth than the moderate alcohol content initially suggests.

Lots of citrus in nose and taste. A bottle I rarely revisit neat. Cola and ice cubes and you don't need lime or any other citrus slice because there's plenty of it in the rum.

Brings everything you expect from a good 2003 TDL. For around €60, you really get a lot for your money here! Getting such an old single cask nowadays for under €100 is truly exceptional! Aromatically, as expected, there’s lots of mint, some eucalyptus and Virginia tobacco, as well as citrus fruits (lemon, mandarin, and yuzu) and yellow stone fruits like pear and mirabelle, accompanied by lots of wood and intense tannins, plus slightly medicinal (salty, bitter, iodine) notes. The reduced ABV definitely makes it easier to drink. Definitely doesn’t have to hide behind sister casks at 3-4 times the price in cask strength! For me, it’s just a bit too woody and dry on the finish overall...
Review by TheJona'Spirits
👃 Right from the opening, a beautiful caramelized, vanilla, and spicy note. Then, you find the characteristic combination of the TDL 2003: mint, yellow fruits (dominant), and tropical fruits (in the background). The menthol leans towards the scent of the essential oils it's named after. 😋 I'm impressed by the intensity of the mint/eucalyptus flavor, especially considering the fairly high dilution of the blend. It has that characteristic freshness you find in camphor. Quite a bit of peppery spice and fruit at the start of the palate (more yellow fruits), then the lovely flavor of blackcurrant mixed with tea. It's herbaceous enough, almost like a TDL 2002. ⛳ Quite drying, slightly bitter, with black berries, mint, and tea leaves. A vanilla and mellow woodiness holds the aromas in the mouth relatively long despite the dilution, once again. 💡 All the markers of a typical TDL from the 2003 vintage are present, more or less lightly depending on the aromas. I lean more towards a balance and roundness of the aromas rather than their relative complexity. 🏆 For its great value of 84🍒 (you can find it for 65-70 if you look around), it plays in the category of the best price-quality ratios of 2025. A must-have to discover Trinidad Distillers Limited before diving into the big single casks from 2001-02-03-09.
Review by TheJackDrop
Quickly tasting the Maison du Whisky salon. I really didn't expect this from a rum rum, made with molasses, and priced at €85. It has all the qualities of a good Trinidad, fruity, minty, a bit woody. Not super complex but very pleasant. I'm rating it a bit higher for the effort on the price.
Review by Eric Frechin
What a beautiful bottle! In every sense of the word, a pleasure for the eyes with very nice packaging, a fresh menthol and fruity aroma that promises a tasting of a TDL we love for these characteristics. Considering its price, it's a real bargain.
Review by Michael Schou
22-05-2025 One of the better Planteray bottles. Really good nose. And taste follows the nose. 19 years in the tropics does it justice. Missing a bit on taste and finish. Had it only a higher ABV. 23-07-2026 - Rate 7.4
Review by Basti
I am seriously impressed. The reviews have been mostly positive so far, but I still didn't expect this at that price. The nose has everything I expect from a 2003 TDL. Mint, menthol, berries, ripe fruits, a nice sweetness. In my opinion, it doesn't have to hide from its cask strength brothers when it comes to the nose. On the palate, everything the nose promises is there. Of course, due to the dilution, it's not as intense and long-lasting as you’re used to from the single casks, but you can take bigger sips here, and price-wise the Planteray plays in a different league. For me, so far the best value-for-money hit of the year!

8,5:On the nose, menthol and yellow, citrus fruits, slightly smoky roasted wood notes like caramel, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, spicy with allspice, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is musty, at first dark with black tea, later fresh, flowery and minty, pairing mango, mandarine, pineapple and currants one one side, rubber, metallic patina and tannins on the other. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is fruity with mango, mandarine, medicinal with menthol and rubber, as the wood is roasted with nuts and caramel, chocolate, vanilla adds to creaminess, rounds the first impact with tasting buds. When well oxidized, the molasses brings eucalyptus, tobacco and black tea, is flowery and minty, as there are yellow fruits, passion fruit and bergamot, grapefruit intermingled with confectionery and slightly tannic wood. 8,4:The finish is rather long, dry and tannic, as slightly smoky, spicy roasted wood notes pair mineral, earthy and musty molasses, grassy with lemon grass, some eucalyptus, tropical(mango), citrus fruits and some currants, pear and a pinch of medicinal notes. Edit:18.1.26, 0,1 up

Holy... What is this? The frame data is already impressive, but the complexity of the nose and palate are on a high level. And then the whole thing for 60-70€. Wow! Very fruity and floral with an underlying honey/caramel note and vanilla. Also pretty intense through and through for just under 48%. You can't really criticize anything.
Review by cigares
A very expressive nose, fruity (tutti frutti), minty (but not too minty), dirty and greedy. What more could you ask for in a rum priced at around €85? The wood is noticeable afterwards, supporting the other aromas. The first palate is soft and expressive, fruity, mentholated and woody. A complex, drinkable rum. The finish is the weak point of this otherwise exceptional rum. Menthol and marzipan aromas linger for a long time. A discovery, a delicious, very drinkable rum at an incredible price.
Review by Chrischi78
A real find - it's hard to believe what you get for your money here. This Trinidad rum surprises with a wonderfully clear, minty-medicinal impact that runs through the nose and palate without ever being overpowering. Behind this, a complex mixture of strong spice, dark wood and ripe tropical fruit builds up - all neatly integrated and very balanced. Over time, fine tobacco notes and a hint of pleasant mustiness also emerge, giving the rum additional depth. A big thank you to the community for all the tips - without you, I would probably have slipped through the cracks with this one.
Review by mto75
First impression: fruity-sweet nose with (tropical) fruit basket, papaya, mango, mirabelle plum, pleasant freshness. Lots of fruit on the palate too, nice minty undertones, tannins/barrel in the finish...dangerously drinkable 😄 the P/L ratio is even better than the 2009 TDL one-time limited
Review by Fred Tillac
👃 a salad of ripe fruit (mango, peach, guava, banana) comes through, complemented by caramel, vanilla and a little lemon and eucalyptus. 👄 we find this in a fat, woody whole, with dried fruits, chocolate, slightly spicy and vinous, with a warm but short finish in relation to its age. A very pleasant fruity old molasses rum, its sweetness making it consensual and its finish inviting you to refill 😋 And what's more its price is very affordable.
Review by Johannes
What a price-performance ratio! For 60 euros you get the typical complex TDL 2003 club! Mint, fruit, wood, light caroni notes, great complexity, alcohol super integrated. A complex easy sipper! Hammer! I have to give an extra point for the price...
Review by zabo
Well, now I've finally tried this highly praised piece. O.k. the price is quite nice, but I don't really think it's a cracker. Nice easy sipper for in between, but a bottle won't find its way to me.

#5495 19.07.2025 Tasting at the Nordlichter Treffen. Nose Fresh, wood, light mint, light floral, spice, light earthy, dried fruit, Palate Warm, spicy, wood, mint, raisin, faint floral, Finish Long and warm, spicy, faint mint, light wood, citrus.
Review by Skyfly
Can only agree with the other reviews. A really great TDL with strong mint, eucalyptus, tropical fruits, wood and light notes of caramel, spices, eucalyptus and tobacco. Alcohol perfectly integrated. PLV cracker!
Review by TheRhumhoe
The bottler hits the nail on the head with this TDL. The nose is very soft and opulently round, the aromas rich but the profile rather light. Fresh notes of menthol and eucalyptus take effect, while tropical yellow and red fruits add voluptuousness to the profile. The whole is enhanced by sweet spices and well-integrated oak for its age. A very pleasant nose that you can breathe in for a long time for pleasure. The palate has the typical character of a TDL, with the fresh floral notes that give it such a pleasant taste on the palate. There's an abundance of tropical (passion fruit) and citrus (lemon) fruit, enhanced by a spicy woodiness. The profile is very tasty, not the most complex, but clearly accessible to all and will open up new horizons for beginners. The alcohol is well integrated, combining control and power for its relatively low alcohol content. The finish is not the longest and loses a little in aroma, particularly on the floral side. The exotic citrus fruitiness returns, along with a drier, spicier finish that's nonetheless elegant and relatively smooth. An ultra-efficient TDL with exotic flavors and unbeatable value for money, hats off to Maison Ferrand for distributing this quality product so easily.
Review by Louis Zimmermann
Freshness and sweetness without breaking the bank. Ripe yellow fruit on the nose, with a hint of wood and menthol. On the palate, juicy mango, exotic fruit and a mint leaf finish. A sensation of freshness, an oily texture, a gentle alcohol content... It drinks itself! Perfect for lounging in the sun ☀️🍃
Review by Master P
Fulfills all the criteria expected of a Trinidad rum. Nice mint note, slightly roasted caramel and fruitiness. Yellow fruits and a little chocolate, a hint of vanilla and black tea. Slightly bitter and dry on the finish. A little peppery on the back and subtle woody and fruity notes. Top for the price.

Tasting date 16.08.2026 RX 23888 Plantation TDL 2003 3th. bottle kill ☠️ Nose: Wood and mint some menthol, bitter sour yellow fruits, caramel and smoked wood, mellow fruity sweetness. Mouth: Fruity mint and menthol, roasted wood with a light dry bitterness. Dried fruits, vanilla and fine balanced spices. Molasses, Light eucalyptus notes. Residual taste is warm and minty. Dried fruits like raisins and prunes. Toasted, sweet and dry finish, with loads of mixed fruits. Light dirty notes appears at the end. Not sure, I sense some water are added that plays with the balance, still capable of finishing three bottles. The glass: Minty oak. Tasting “In the cave”

Colour amber Aroma fruit, citrus, mint, eucalyptus, spices, vanilla Flavour vanilla, citrus, lemon, bergamot, yuzu, mint, eucalyptus menthol, spices, tobacco, wood Finish medium long citrus, mint, menthol, caramel, pear Complex rum finish could have been longer if it had a few extra percent of alcohol
Review by Leo Krüper
Great value for money, just like its predecessor. For me, it lacks a bit of complexity for the 80 points. But super suitable as a Trinidad beginner.
Review by Rodolphe
Wow! Seriously! Do you like TDL? Those with a peachy ice tea flavor, with a well-dosed minty freshness? Well, go for it, because this rum ticks all the boxes of an excellent 2003. And it's incredibly well-priced! Why not go for 9/10? The finish is rather short, especially on the fresh side. But I'm buying my second bottle tomorrow morning!
Review by Eugene227
Combines typical Trinidad notes of mint, eucalyptus, and tropical fruits with lots of barrel aging. Despite its age, surprisingly fresh and elegant. You have to like the slightly menthol TDL style, then you get a successful balance of complexity, drinkability, and character.
Review by Timo Groeger
And then, to finish off the weekend, we had a T.D.L from Planteray. Of course, the usual profile here too: lots of mint, menthol, and eucalyptus. A very fresh rum, with some fruitiness coming through on the palate as well.
Review by Alex1981
Super cool release! Loses out in direct comparison with the RX Swell, but a real treat for lovers of the 2001 TDL profile. Lots of menthol and dirtiness, light wood and an amazingly long finish for the abv. Also a divine PLV
Review by Rumpalumpa
Unfortunately, I have to confirm here that TDL will never be one of my favorites. This musty herbal style doesn't really appeal to me. I find the mint notes to be a very dry mint. I like the yellow stone fruit.
Review by Nicolas Kröger
Typical menthol boat with old TDL. Mega stuff! Most intense price/pain ratio ever!
Review by Oliver
Absurdly good value for money. Absolute insider tip.
Review by Mc Pirate
Mint and blackcurrant on the nose, mint on the palate - you feel like you're sucking on a mint leaf! Vegetal finish but very acidic empty glass.
Review by Boletus
Everything I appreciate about T.D.L is present in this bottling. The fine bright fruits, led by peach and lychee, delicious mint and a pleasant caramel base. Although a closer taste reveals that some leached wood has found its way into the batch from the barrels used, the overall package is truly phenomenal in relation to the price.
Review by Martin Augustin
A wonderful T.D.L with an outstanding PLV. A wonderful sipper with the typical flavor notes. Lots of eucalyptus, mint and menthol can be found in the nose and taste. Enriched with citrus fruits and a hint of caramel. The finish is relatively short as it is diluted. I really like the rum, it has a wonderful lightness and yet enough complexity.
Review by M. Mark
Možno trochu chuťovo drsnejší na svoje ABV, ale chuť mäty v ňom je a rovno poriadna dávka. Za rovnaké peniaze sa z legendárneho ročníka T.D.L. 2003 nedá kúpiť nič lepšie. Maybe a bit harsher in taste for its ABV, but the flavor of yellow fruits and mint is there, and it's in a generous dose. For the same money there's very probably nothing better from the legendary T.D.L.'s 2003 vintage.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Classic markers, very successful and close to other strong bottlings. Deep aromas: compote, umami, spicy, mineral, with lots of mint. Slightly furry, a bit cheesy, plus a dry and slightly "dirty" note. Very harmonious and complex overall. The suspected dilution hardly matters, it feels digestible and round. Goes extremely well with coconut water.
Review by Filip Šikula
Alexandro and his team really nailed this one. Definitely the best rum in terms of price/performance from 2025. Intense minty nose, lots of flavor even at a milder ABV offers a full and intense experience.
Review by Wernie
But already some reviews about this hyped bottling. As far as the nose is concerned, I'm totally thrilled, I love Trinidad so much that I would have given it 9.4 points. Unfortunately, for me it drops off significantly on the palate. The familiar markers are there, but unfortunately I find it too thin. Nevertheless, the dilution cannot tame the wood, in my opinion it is past its zenith. Too woody, too much tannin. Considering the price of ~ 60€ still a very good bottling. Conclusion: smell more and get excited 😀
Review by Martin Spooner
A nose with sticky notes and a slight workshop influence, including a dose of menthol. The palate is also full of menthol, mint and eucalyptus. This combination also lingers in the throat for a relatively long time. A nice thing for the price.
Review by The Specialist
A perfect entry into the TDL world. A price-performance hit at release. Now significantly more expensive but still recommended. Mint and eucalyptus nicely present without being too strong. For me, unfortunately a bit thin and the finish could be longer.
Review by Solidfunk
Caramel and palm dates. Pours dark golden. A hint of diesel, some wood and tangerine. More oak in the mouth, sharp oak. Sweet marmalade, probably dosed. Light cloying tanginess in the finish, some grapefruit. A little permethrin that sticks with you. Sample thanks to xamsx.
Review by Nicofr
A rather fun rum, for me the eucalyptus/mint side is really unusual, I had to taste it several times to appreciate it and give it a rating. Otherwise, the woody and fruity notes are also present and accompany the eucalyptus, which stays quite long on the palate.
Review by Julien Ries
Its beautiful amber color immediately invites you to put your nose above the chimney of the glass. The scents are typical TDL, in a very light concentration. Eucalyptus and blackcurrant come together. A touch of black tea mingles with menthol and camphor. There are a few medicinal hints, and the whole is very fresh. The palate feels like biting into a bunch of fresh mint, just knocked against the palm. Impressive minty freshness, Hollywood chewing-gum style. The woodiness is light, with traces of blackcurrant. But that's about it. And that's a shame. It leaves you wanting more. The length is below average, still with that menthol and red fruit. Did I like it? Yes, very much so, and I think I'll buy a bottle. The price is so modest for a 22-year-old rum that it would be a shame to pass it up. It's the perfect bottle to introduce newcomers to the world of rum to TDL, without feeling like you're emptying a rare bottle you'll never find again. After all, it's a far cry from the quality of other TDL 2003s.
Review by Florent Apl
I cannot overstate how much I love this bottle. This is an incredible price quality ratio and I wish it would be a permanent edition. For 60€ (depending where you are it can go up to 100€ now), you have a TDL that screams TDL. Menthol, eucalyptus and more menthol. On the nose there are also some yellow fruits but which disappear on the palate, the wood takes over. It's dry but not overly oaky, and it delivers a good amount of aromas that you can't get bored of.
Review by Vincent D
At last, I've got the chance to test this rum, which many people agree offers superb value for money. And in the end, the rumor was true :). A well-made TDL, with menthol, tobacco and wood. Discreet fruit. Well-integrated alcohol and ideal degree for me. A great success.
Review by Schorgelorsch
Ooh la la. The taste itself isn't really my thing, but it has an incredible variety of flavors that take you along for the ride. All in all, very well-rounded. The menthol and minty notes really pack a punch! Nice long, very pleasant finish!
Review by F.L.O.
A nice surprise. I was looking for a Trinidad at drinking strength for a long time for my tasting. This is it! Nice eucalyptus note. Sure, the finish isn't sooo long, but it's enough, Alcohol super integrated.

Read full review ›So, if we take a look at the big picture, which is the principle of a conclusion, we have: A fine concentration of aromas typical of TDL 2003. A reduction that keeps the fatness and pleasure of tasting at its best. Classy packaging. An insane price, less expensive than a bad white rum from I don't know where. But.... go for it, people! Go for it, because there won't be many of these priced like this.... We're talking about a 22-year-old rum, aren't we!

Read full review ›It's definitely an interesting and pleasant rum, which I think all fans of Planteray rums or minty Trinidad will appreciate for its mintiness. It smells nice and has a full flavor, but unfortunately the complexity fades in the taste. For me, a solid bottle for sipping with friends, coming from a beautiful island.
