Sipped neat, this is a divisive one: briny green olive up front, then sour red fruit, strawberry, young oak and a whiff of solvent that a few tasters likened to fruit schnapps. An AGA blend of agricole and Grand Arôme, and its youth shows. Funky and mineral, with a dry, sometimes bitter finish and heat that not everyone found fully tucked in.

A young Savanna with a strong influence of the damp warehouse. At first, it's rather a surprising fruit brandy, then it oscillates between woody and red fruits, a bit of brine.. The finish evolves on olive. Young but still complex. Edit: new tasting, more intense and varnished than I remember, still very good, you have to give it time to open up! Edit 2: Savanna x RumX evening: fruitier than I remember, and even better too. Maybe also more olive.

A Savanna that leaves me pretty cold after tasting. A decent clean rum, without edges or corners. The finish is quite short, the light wood and fruit notes disappear quickly.

This rum has a very special and unusual profile. A hint like cap gun ammunition from a toy pistol. Also old furniture or an antique shop comes to mind. On the palate, the rum feels sweet with notes of berries, grape sugar, mineral, and a slight plastic tone, with strawberry in the background. The drinking strength is very good, the alcohol is optimally integrated. Unfortunately, the finish is rather short.

Palate Medium intense, medium spicy, light wood, light ester, light floral, banana, spice. Finish Very long and light spicy with some tannins, fruits, light citrus, light cherry.

The young age is noticeable both on the nose and palate. Young oak, cognac, olive brine, and very sour notes reminiscent of unripe strawberries. The overall aroma profile just doesn't feel harmonious to me and the alcohol integration could be better. Too young and unbalanced, too sharp and especially too sour. More time in the barrel might have helped here.

Savanna Masterclass. I like this rum. Very mineral on the nose. Olive and (overripe) fruits are noticeable. Olive and tropical fruits remain on the palate, some wood also comes in.

Savanna RumX tasting 26.09.25: Another Art of Rum bottling that doesn't fully convince me this time either. It's easy to drink, but somehow something expressive is missing in the aroma. It's simply "generic."

A younger Savanna compared to the other Art of Rum releases, and it shows. The nose is quite expressive with notes of tropical and red fruits and ripe citrus, olive, spices, and a slight smoky scent. The influence of cognac is noticeable and gives an alcoholic edge to the nose. The olfactory profile is varied but lacks a bit of structure and integration of the aromas, which mix haphazardly.\n\nThe palate is somewhat similar; there are aromas but the overall impression falls a bit flat. You find strawberry and exotic fruits, olive, some spices, and a few herbaceous notes leaning towards cane. The cognac is present, and the profile is drier and more bitter than on the nose. The alcohol is not badly integrated, but the profile is far from transcendent and harmonious.\n\nThe finish is not the most striking with some notes of spices, olive, cognac, and ripe strawberry. It keeps this dry and bitter side but is clearly not the best memory, the aromas fading quickly. A rum that is not fundamentally bad, but Savanna has accustomed us to better for this kind of bottling. A few more years of aging wouldn’t have hurt.

Savanna tasting on September 26, 2025 – Eight samples were tasted and expertly explained. The Savanna hype somehow passed me by again, but it was a really great event. Many thanks to RumX and the Savanna team – more of this, please! The Savannas are true experts and craftsmen. Complex, 60% ABV, flattering on the palate. Working with different styles such as Creole, Traditional, and HERR leads to a diversity that few distilleries offer. Everything is top-notch! Second sample REPY. Slightly less spice and more fruit than Le Must. More drinkable and better overall.

Typical Savanna markers with strawberry and olive are present. The nose also has fermented, tropical, and citrus fruits. It is somewhat reminiscent of fruit brandy. Wood and a little bitterness are added on the palate. Alcohol is well integrated. Not a particularly outstanding representative of Savanna.

An der Nase viel Frucht mit viel verkohlten Holz. Pflanzlich! Etwas scharfes und stechendes liegt ebenfalls in der Nase. Ganz rund ist das nicht. Im Mund trocken bitter, zwar fruchtig, aber wieder starke Schlagseite zu Fass, Gewürze, dunkle Schokolade. Überzeugt mich nicht wirklich.

On the nose with fermented fruit, wood, olive, tea, and a hint of paprika and floral notes. On the palate, it has a surprising aroma of roasted nuts and chocolate, which accompanies the aroma spectrum of the nose. Added to this is a firm spiciness in the finish, which comes from the alcohol on the one hand, but also reminds me of chili and therefore takes a little getting used to. Overall, a complex, balanced, and intense rum — very good.

Very restrained nose: tropical fruits, honey, a bit of ginger. Alcohol well integrated. On the palate, first impression 58%??? I would have guessed much less. Some fruit, some wood... somehow not exciting but quite drinkable. I find the price too high here.

Floral profile with light notes of blossoms, fresh fruit, and a subtle sweetness. On the palate lively, but the alcohol comes through a bit too sharp and covers the finer nuances. Spicy and slightly grassy hints bring structure but feel edgy. The finish is medium length with floral notes, overall not a badly made rum, but for me unbalanced.

Tried in the RumX masterclass on 26.09.25: Exciting because very floral and bitter. A very distinctive note, possibly olive. Along with bitter orange and fermented fruits. Good, but for me a weak Savanna.

On the nose distinguishably sweet-soury-salty olive water, quite mineral, even lightly smoky, I don't really get much fruit, maybe hints of red fruits and hints of minty freshness. The taste is quite sharp, herbal, the olives continue here but noticeably backgrounded, sweeter and fruitier notes become more dominant. Not bad, quite well balanced, but still VAST is still the best one in this art series.

It's a bit sharp-edged. That's the first thing that comes through. In the nose as well as on the palate. Very fruity and floral. With a long finish that I quite like. To be honest, I expected more here.

small, private Savanna Coss tasting 2025-07-10: Basically, I can get something out of most Savanna bottlings, but I don't really warm to this one. Nose. The palate and finish are mainly reminiscent of a fruit brandy. The alcohol is not really well integrated.

I appreciate the project and the effort to do something new, but this won’t justify its price. In the nose fruit, olives, overripe brandy; in taste wood and strawberries stand out. Overall I’d say the rum is more interesting than something I’d look forward to opening a bottle of.

🟣 Savanna – Art of Rum by REPY – 57% Back to Savanna, this time with a real Artist Edition, illustrated by REPY, a graffiti artist and Reunion Island artist. The originality doesn't stop at the label: this is an unprecedented AGA blend (Agricole + Grand Arôme before aging), distilled in 2019, aged 6 years in ex-Cognac barrels in a humid warehouse, and bottled at 57%. 2,400 bottles total. 👃 Nose Powerful, very “Savanna Grand Arôme”: green olive, smoke, tropical fruits, with discreet woodiness and a saline minerality in the background. 👅 Palate Expressive and funky: olive, strawberry, fruit brandy, with spice nuances, floral notes and a little salty touch. 📝 My impression Honestly, I found it a bit too young, too focused on olive, and with a somewhat overwhelming bitterness. Not my thing, clearly. But fans of very “funky” profiles might find their happiness here.

17/09/2025: online Savanna Masterclass by Rhumlicious. Savanna Art of Rum is a blend of Agricole rhum and some Grand Arôme. It's a young Savanna where the alcohol could be integrated a bit better. Not my favorite of the evening.
