Edit: added a few tasting notes. The low ABV detracts a little from the picture, but makes it all the more delicious and drinkable. I stand by the rating. I think it's very, very tasty 😋 First impression: Tasted it briefly today while sampled and am very impressed. Definitely tastes better than the Velier "Holzbombe" Skeldon from 1978. Detailed evaluation to follow.

Thanks to Lukas for the chance. Nose spicy, smoky, I also imagine tobacco, slightly fruity especially dried fruits and raisins. In the mouth mild and rather watery, chocolate/caramel and grapes, then mainly wood and bitter. Finish rather medium length. Falls short of my expectations.

Insanely great color... Dried fruits like raisin, plum, and peach. Blackberries, grapes, caramel, and vanilla. A hint of menthol... some leather and a good portion of wood notes. Mmmh really easy to drink in the mouth. Spicy with dried fruits, brown sugar, caramel, coffee, and dark chocolate. Alcohol is practically not noticeable, neither on the nose nor on the palate. The finish is long and nicely bitter... A bit more % would certainly not have hurt, which doesn't detract from the quality. Delicious and easy to drink.

Folks, you have to be strong now, here comes the spoilsport ... Yes, this rum is a monster on the nose, the very incarnation of successful rum: malt, molasses, raisins, prunes. A dream. Blindly, I could have sworn it was a REV 94. But! The rum simply doesn't deliver on the palate. At least not enough. It seems somehow weak and flabby, above all too thin. If you taste the RX13842 from 1423 (S.B.S), you'll understand what I mean. Namely: The S.B.S shows on the palate exactly what you would expect from the TRC on the nose. Deep, malty, oily, fat, warming, powerful. Since I have rum to drink and appreciate it, and smelling plays a subordinate role for me, I feel sorry for the TRC despite its gifted smell: in terms of the overall score, it's not even SWR average for me, the S.B.S as a 2001 benchmark downright boils it off. If only the TRC wasn't so diluted ... The nose still saves it to 80 points. Postscript: The difference today was so great that I suspect an oscillating daily form. So the rum will have to be checked again soon. I'm curious!

#5896 15.10.2025 Evening snack while watching a crime series on Max. Nose Wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light plum, light caramel, faint marzipan, light chocolate, faint tannins. Palate Oily, warm, wood, light spicy, light chocolate, dried fruit, light plum, faint floral, anise, light medicinal. Finish Long, wood, light roasted, raisin, light caramel, light chocolate, prunes. Empty glass Prunes, chocolate, light cherry, anise. The longer it rests the better it gets and handwarming also adds a bit to the profile.

Intense on the nose delivering all beloved SWR markers including dried fruits, coffee and burnt sugar. Dark and wood forwards. Very nice. Similar showing in the palate. Nicely balanced SWR notes. Despite the extra maturation, this isn’t to woody in any way. Dark, dried fruits, wood and some sweetness are all nicely balanced and very enjoyable. Looking at the ABV: side-by-side with RX13842 (SBS 54.1%) the TRC performs very well. The nose is more complex and smoother, while the SBS shows some alcohol, which I did not recognize previously. On the palate, the TRC is noticably softer. However, this also brings a better balance and fruit notes are more prominent. All in all I don’t think the lower ABV is a problem tbh. This is just a very nice SWR bottling.

Tried the TRC SWR 2001 directly in a side-by-side comparison with some completely different vintages and also different profiles in the end. Included were the S.B.S (54.1%) also from 2001, the El Dorado Rare Cask Skeldon from 2000, the RomDeluxe from 2019, and the KaribikAlps Soulfire from 2018. Nose: TRC: Hard to believe this is an SWR, blind I would probably classify it more as a REV. Lots of roasted aromas, licorice, leather and tobacco, but also dried fruits, spices and a pleasant sweetness. Definitely stands out from the SWRs I know and I really, really like it!! ED Skeldon: Simply incredibly round and inviting. Lots of chocolate, spices, sweetness, a bit of coffee, but also coconut and wood. S.B.S: By far the most distinctive coffee note. But compared to the competition, it seems a bit more reserved on the nose. Needs quite a while to develop. Soulfire: For its still young age, surprisingly mature. Molasses, licorice, raisins, chocolate, caramel, plum, there’s a bit of everything here. I like it a lot too. RDL: Had it in the glass for the second time after HanseSpirit. Of course, the almost 80% ABV can’t be denied on the nose. Also, compared to the Soulfire (same age, different vintage), it seems significantly less complex. For me, the weakest nose. Slightly reminds of Belize. Palate: TRC: Feels on the palate like a hybrid of SWR and REV, also a hint of pencil shavings is present. Lacks a bit of intensity, but still a successful bottling for me!! ED Skeldon: Plays in a different league for me. Everything very balanced, alcohol perfectly integrated. A great rum! S.B.S.: Also on the palate the distinctive coffee note, chocolate, wood and also a hint of perfumed. Just beats the TRC. Soulfire: Couldn’t fully convince on the palate. Molasses, licorice, caramel, dried fruits, but also something (for me) disturbing. RDL: Alcohol is noticeable on the palate too, plus caramel, subtle coffee, vanilla, baking spices. My ranking: ED Skeldon: 9.2; S.B.S: 8.9; TRC: 8.8; Soulfire: 8.5; RDL: 8.3.

The last one for this weekend and it doesn't disappoint :) Definitely a seriously roasted rum, you can recognize various spices (vanilla), dark chocolate, coffee, oak, leather, but also wood. Strong stuff.

Very nice fruity start with candied, roasted fruit. A hint of chocolate and tea. Velvety soft, light chocolate sweetness, coffee and dried fruits. At the end very cool bitter notes, dark chocolate, slight wood influence. Alcohol very well integrated. Very fun, goes down like oil.

On the nose, spice (towards Maggi), orange zest, baked plum, furniture wax, chewing tobacco. On the palate, initially a bit reserved, but that changes after a few sips. Then allspice, malt coffee, old cask. Also somewhat of a rather sweet finish. I need to try it again with a cigar, it could be a good companion!

Super tasty, even though I miss a bit of alcoholic sharpness on the palate. Already the nose just knocks you out; the combination of dried fruits, wood, spices, coffee and caramel is super balanced from nose to finish. On the palate and finish comes a pleasant bitterness paired with dark chocolate - simply delicious!

A balanced, round nose. Woody, spicy, caramel and raisin. A hint of solvent. Good strength and probably easy to drink... Yes, very easy to drink. The taste continues similarly. Wonderful bottling, was a bit skeptical due to the ABV and limited myself to a sample. A mistake, I like it. Heavy sweetness with many dark fruits like plum. However, it's a bit too sweet for an even better rating.

The age shows here in that it needs a lot, really a lot of time to open up. For me, it only really showed itself towards the end of the crosstasting. Compared to others, it's a bit too sweet and due to the rather short finish it falls off a bit.

Great dark nose 👃... also quite nice on the palate but indeed a bit too thin for me. Not watery in the sense of too little flavor. I rather miss some alcoholic power that carries the whole thing. Still good.

The smell of plum and blackberry immediately hits the nose. Along with roasted wood notes and dark chocolate. In the background also some gear oil leading to dark, almost dirty notes. The pleasant ABV makes the oily rum very agreeable on the tongue and palate. In the mouth the nose is complemented by rusty coffee. In the dry finish black tea and tannins. A hint of eucalyptus rounds it off. For a top score >= 9.0 the last kick is missing. Overall impression I am almost more on REV than SWR.

Yes, I find it quite tasty, with dark fruits and licorice. Good drinking strength, a few more percent probably wouldn't have hurt it either. But it's also expensive. For my personal taste, the price/enjoyment ratio of many rums from Guyana doesn't quite add up. I get more enjoyment from rums from other regions that are cheaper. And also the El Dorado Albion 2004 at about the same price (or cheaper before) pleases me a bit more. Don't get me wrong: For me still a very good rum and my rating is purely based on taste and quality.

I usually like heavy dark spicy woody rums... But here something bothers me. The nose is wonderfully complex and classic, super… then the palate: initially the expected continuation of the nose with the corresponding flavor aromas, then a floral note of “violets” joins in. And I don’t like that at all. Later in the finish it fades away again.. Too bad, that unfortunately costs it a top rating.

What a brutal drinking Guyana. Didn't expect that from it. Unfortunately only 49%, hence the not so long finish. But otherwise really a great piece, with tons of raisins and plum on the palate, the sweetness almost suggests a finish, but it isn't. Absolutely brilliant for beginners in the Guyana world... if the price isn't too high, of course. Update: Drank 2 glasses again today. Still extremely smooth... almost too smooth.

Very tasty, I think that fits best. The rum shows its age and strong cask influence, but also a delicious fruit compote on the nose. Seems nicely balanced and the low ABV makes the rum accessible and easy to drink. But the complexity is there and the rum still feels full-bodied. Dangerously tasty. The glass was emptied quickly. Great.

Very nice Guyana, not too bitter yet, but bitterness clearly shapes the rum. It mixes with dried plums, which bring a nice fruitiness. Alcohol could be a bit better integrated, the rum gets better with aging. Strongly astringent.

A very, very nice nose that brings everything I expected from a 2001 Skeldon. Roasty, spicy, dried plum on caramel and coffee. On the palate, it’s still a Skeldon, but unfortunately lacking a bit of everything. For a top rating, it’s a bit too thin for me. Overall not bad, but not outstanding.

Very complex bottling that can really keep you busy for a long time! An ABV under 50%, but a color you can hardly see through the glass! On the nose initially wood and leather, then fruit and dark aromas open up. This is reflected on the tongue, strong punch on the palate, good push at the back. Exciting and complex! I was especially surprised by a very sweet influence in my cheeks. Not sugary sweet or otherwise inappropriate – it just added this aroma and nicely rounded it off.

Beautiful chocolate candy. Nose full of heavy sweet scents, coffee, leather, dried plums and chocolate. On the palate a dense oily piece that fills the mouth with chocolate, dried fruit and leather. Beautiful complex piece. Gorgeous!

SWR, a big name and here opinions seem divided... For me this is a good rum, but not a top bottling. Too much on the dark-roasted side and at the same time too weak on the palate. Certainly due to the low ABV it lacks some power here. Possibly the tongue would be completely overwhelmed otherwise due to the many bitter substances, but for me too much is simply missing here for me to go along with the top ratings.

Pleasant wood, gripping pepper, sweet caramel, crisp roasted notes. On the palate and finish, the bitter side shows with black pepper, roasted aroma and coffee. Many of the other 2001 Diamonds are mostly focused on molasses and caramel sweetness, this release shows a rich wood and spice note instead. Harmonious, though a bit bitter.

I'll keep it short, nose very nice, marked by heavy deep nuances. On the palate and finish unfortunately too little for me. Why reduce it so much, down to under 49% ABV? That takes away some body. It had everything to be an extraordinary drop... very sad. Nevertheless, it is tasty... if it weren't for the stupid 'but'.

Wonderful rum from Guyana, deep roasted aromas, fruity plums, caramel fudge, coffee (cappuccino) and tobacco notes. I love this profile and for me it is top class - unfortunately my sample is empty but already ordered the bottle!
