Cherry-jam sweetness, chocolate and burnt caramel on the nose, then a leap to red fruit, dark chocolate and peppery spice on the palate. This 17-year Trinidad Ten Cane runs hot at 61.3% — the alcohol pokes out and a few drops of water calm it and coax out bitter chocolate. Several tasters call it the most complex pour in a lineup, though a bitter, drying finish lingers and doesn't sit right with everyone.

#7001 06.07.2026 Relaxeing with a few samples after a cold few hours on the bike. Watchine Gold Rush on HBO while my wife is applying for an extension of her residency. Pretty nice Ten Cane with a nice price tag to go with it. A rum with nice sugarcane an grass, honey, fruits, solvent, wood, tannins and spices.

Solid mid-tier sipper that brings some charm despite its flaws. The nose is fairly straightforward with woody and chocolate tones, though the alcohol pops out a bit too much. On the palate, it leans into fruity flavours together with dark chocolate and peppery spice, with a touch of orange peel giving it a nice lift. What saves it from mediocrity is the warm, slightly herbal finish that adds a pleasant twist at the end. Not a showstopper, but definitely not a flop either. Could use more complexity, balance and better alcohol integration. Lands at a fair 8.0 for me.

Color brutally dark, hopefully it will be good 😊 I sniff and smell technical burnt caramel, with red fruit in the background. I taste and think for quite a while about what I actually feel. I repeat this two more times, my head is a bit confused. I keep smelling and still discover red fruit. After the brain deals with it, I feel burnt wood, vanilla, maybe I would say very dried figs (maybe the red fruit is doing that), all underlined by a strange spice together with a technical undertone. The finish goes a bit bitter, it is astringent like burnt citrus peel with a bit of wormwood. This is probably the most complex rum of all, subjectively I am a bit bothered by the bitterness at the end, because even two minutes after drinking it still lingers. I dilute it with water, drink again and now bitter chocolate comes out in the finish instead. Anyway, even that stays quite long.
