What you're buying here isn't one rum but 16 small samples of the same 3.5-year TDL base, each finished in a different wood, so you can taste side by side exactly what the cask does. One taster called it the best set in the "nerd" space. The base is decent; the oak variants tend to win, and French oak reads almost wine-like.

It's been over a year since I was allowed to taste this set. It's an interesting experiment where you can really recognize slight differences, but the difference isn't too big either.

From fruity, spicy, woody, smoky and strong to elegant and dry, there's something for every taste here. Definitely a highly exciting and unique tasting set that probably won't be available in this form again. Highly recommended for every spirits enthusiast who wants to educate themselves in liquid form! Of course, you shouldn't expect ultra crazy super delicious rums here, it's really only about the influence of the wood. I'm very happy to have tried this set!

A great opportunity, not offten, to try various types of different wood notes and its nuances and typical marks of them.I have tasted 1 cl of each, as the base rum is 3y TDL, so I have a possibility to retaste it and learn to decipher each one of them.Thx to RumX for nice marketing and top price.

The description is a bit difficult with 16 different samples, each speaks for itself whether nice wood notes or fruity notes come through. I find it an exciting thing to really experience the influence the cask has on the rum. For me, the best tasting set in the nerd area 😁 After tasting again about a year later, I did taste noticeable quality fluctuations. Therefore, I had to deduct a few points; not every rum is really tasty and you really need very few of them. Still, a cool tasting set.

A great set with 16 different barrel maturations. It is not possible to say in the evaluation which aromas are present, as each wood gives off different aromas. If you want to get to grips with the subject of cask maturation, this is the right set for you. A nobrainer at the current sale price of 49.99 €. There is also a QR code for tasting with lots of information about this project.

This tasting set is a fun and interesting experience. It delivers on the expectations. The base rum is nice and most of the rums have a subtle but distinctive deviation in flavour profile from the base. My main takeaway is that the variants of oak tended to be better on the whole. The most interesting discovery for me was that the French Oak imparts what I thought was a wine type flavour. It might be that actually when I’ve had some rums finished in ex-wine casks before (which were French oak) it might be that the wood was doing more to impact the flavour of the rum, rather than any remnants of wine.

A nice journey through the barrel worlds. Together with a YouTube video, you get an overview of the flavor profiles of the different barrels. Not suitable for beginners, but for rum drinkers who want to progress and develop.
